Avatar m tn Hello, Acne is sometimes the product of a staph infection, but can also be the cause if open wounds created by broken pimples become infected with staph. One type of staph infection leading to acne is folliculitis, which creates clusters of acne on the skin. It is important to know and confirm whether your acne is due to staph in order to address the infection before it gets worse.

Avatar f tn Hi, Mupirocin and Neosporin are available over the counter but other medicines are available only by prescription. Kind regards.
453284 tn?1205793544 With a good blast of antibiotics, the infection should be controlled...he may continue to grow staph out of his sputum after treatment though. Over time, CF does get worse...it is a progressive disease. Every person's course is different...with proper treatment (chest physio, supplements, good nutrition, antibiotics with infections, etc) and compliance (I have a tough time with all of this sometimes) hopefully there won't be a rapid decline.
Avatar f tn Or it can be fungus infection , you can use over the counter Canesten 2% ( i used the vaginal canesten and the oozing yellow went away and my lips are back to normal) use it for 1 week and stop
Avatar n tn But, I would like to know if there is an over the counter medicine. I only get the urgency after a little stress. It stops after 10 hours or so on it's own. But, a cheaper "as needed" OTC medicine would sure be something I am interested in.
Avatar m tn Most of the test i have done have always reported staph infection and all effort to treat this infection with the sensitive antibiotics have been resistant. kindly advise me. waiting patiently for your response. Thank you.
Avatar f tn So, impetigo isn't really something you treat with over the counter products. It typically requires a prescription from a doctor of a topical antibiotic (like a cream you put on) or a pill if it is systemic (through body). It's basically a staph or strep infection of the skin. And it IS contagious. It's important he receive prompt attention (especially since you are mentioning his eye lid involved) but it needs to be a prescription of antibiotics from a doctor.
Avatar n tn I am worried my daughter and I are carriers of this disease and have been misdiagnosed for all of these years and each time we get sick we are giving it to others and harming ourself by staying on antibodics and the damage it does to us on the inside.
Avatar f tn a simple medicated shampoo may be all that is needed. You may want to try one of the over-the-counter dog shampoos for itchy skin. Buy a small bottle just to try. Hope you find a cure, allergies can be very difficult to identify/cure.
Avatar m tn Two days later I started iching relly bad, I bought some over the counter yeast infection med. and used that. I was rubbing myself alot and had a sore on outside which I figured was from all the rubbing. Than I started running a fever and getting chills. I figured it was a bacterial infection and decided to go into my midwife. I told her what was going on and she started examing me. She said I have herpes and that my cervix does not look good. I lost it.
Avatar f tn You could try spraying her bedding with PRESCRIBED flea treatment (not an over-the-counter one, as some have been found to be toxic, even though they are cheaper) -AND then boil-washing it afterwards. Make sure there are no traces of detergent or fabric conditioner in it when it is rinsed. So make sure it's rinsed very well. What sort of food does she eat? Is it good quality, with meat/fish as the first ingredient -and NO corn, additives, chemicals, by-products, fillers, or colouring?
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I've also read that one of its side effects is skin discoloration/whitening. I just don't if it's a somewhat common side effect that can be expected or a dangerous one which is relatively uncommon & requires attention from a dermatologist. On the website that you've linked, it states that I should see a doctor if it's "severe." Yet what's considered "severe" in this case?
Avatar f tn In case of boil inside the nose which is infection of the hair follicle inside the nose, it takes its own course for a week or so in healing and no treatment may be required. Apply warm moist compresses three or four times a day over the tender area. This will help to bring the boil to a head and encourage easy drainage. Along with the warm compresses, you can take OTC pain killers and a course of antibiotics. I hope it helps.
Avatar m tn 3 days later I started getting really ichey and figured it was a yeast infection and got some over the counter medicine. I was rubbing myself alot and made myself raw. Well 5 days later I still didn't feel right down there and was getting a real watery discharge and a fever. So this monday I went to my midwife who told me I have herpes and that my cervix didn't look good. I went to my boyfriend and told him, he went to his doctor the next day and he was told it was a staph infection.
910014 tn?1242727443 My 24 year old daughter was admitted into the hospital with staph infection on her side. She had a fever and was in severe pain. They have her on antibiotics via IV. Help please.....VERY WORRRIED MOM!!!!
Avatar m tn To answer your questions Impetigo is caused by one or two types of bacteria 90% of the time it is a Staph and the the 10% of the time it can be a Strep type of bacteria. 1. It is contagious by touching it and getting it on your clothes, sheets, towels, counter tops etc. by touching the sores and touching those areas. If you wash your hands after you touch the sores then you should okay. Except that the doctors say to not have contact with other people until the rash or spots clear.
Avatar n tn There is no other medical conditions or medication that he is taking at this time expect for The medication for the staph infection, sulfameth/trimethoprim.
Avatar n tn It may be yeast, or vaginitis, non specific urethritis. Did they do a culture and is that why they said it was Staph? It doesn't make sense. Have you tried an over the counter yeast cream? Make sure they are ok to take with pregnancy (I don't know myself about that) or ask the pharmacist. If that doesn't work I would have them culture you. It may be some other bacteria such as gardnerella and there are others that have symptoms like this. Yeast is the most common of course.
Avatar n tn Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection . In some cases, over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers and warm compresses may be all you need. For more serious cases, treatment of swollen lymph nodes involves treating the underlying cause usually infections. Hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn An over the counter medication is any medication that can be purchased without a prescription "over the counter", but does not make the medication safer and needs to be taken according to the directions on the package and there is a need to be more vigilent and take into consideration individual health, the benefits versus the risks and potential interactions with any prescribed meidcations.
Avatar m tn If someone has an infection and has had a full run of antibiotics and has taken the pills exactly as prescribed and hasn't healed, the doctor should prescribe a second run of antibiotics (some infections take longer to heal than the doctor expected). If that has happened and still no positive result, the doctor should change the prescription to a different kind of antibiotic.
Avatar f tn The Levofloxacin is for the Staph infection and show help cure the staph. You need to take the pills as prescribed and finish them at the end of the course. Try to gently wash the area with soap and water. Don't scrub it and don't use a wash rag as it is too rough. Wash your hands after touching it. The Levofloxacin won't work on the yeast. It is an antibiotic and works on the bacteria only. If you have yeast you can try one of those over the counter 3 day anti yeast treatments.
Avatar n tn I NEED TO KNOW OF A GOOD OVER THE COUNTER COUGH MEDICINE,I HAVE A NAGGING COUGH THAT HURTS MY TEMPLE AREA WHEN COUGHING
