Seroquel for autism

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for autism

seroquel

Avatar f tn I have cronic insomnia and my phychiatrist put me on seroquel for this pregnancy. I am 33 weeks and have been using seroquel during the whole pregnancy. I am extremely nervous if I am doing any harm to my little new baby girl. I am having panic attacks this week just thinking about it. I just hope for the best to all our babies.
Avatar f tn Yes it will take a while for the Seroquel to build up to an effective dose as i was just started. Also Strattera can as an adverse side effect sometimes increase or cause aggression so although you should leave the dose of all medications in place it would be essential to discuss this with the doctor or psychiatrist who is prescribing the medications. You can find the information on the medication website, package instructions or P.D.R.
Avatar f tn First of all, I am so sorry you are going through this. My daughter has autism, but is not aggressive (she's also 5). I don't know a whole lot about medications for developmental disabilities in children because my DD does not need to take any. We do give her fish oil supplements. Fish oil contains Omega 3 which helps the brain. I would also make sure that you keep her busy during the day.
Avatar m tn The only thing I can think of that might have caused this was Seroquel. He took it at bed time for about two years. I am wondering if this is a plausible cause. He was also on Risperdal and Depakote and Trileptal and Terazadone and Lamictal, of course not all at the same time. I am sure I spelled all these meds wrong. We are having trouble finding any professional who will take an active interest in the urgency of our problem with both the aggression and the onset of these tic behaviors.
2080404 tn?1643113754 Kelcoo, I agree these meds should not be taken lightly. These days, so many that prescribe them ONLY do that as it has gotten so complicated. Psychiatrists really don't provide psychotherapy much at all if at all anymore. My son was on seroquel and also was sleepy. But he was on a very low dose which that's normal for that. He was inpatient for suicidal ideation when they started him on it. He was on it for about 6 weeks.
1349329 tn?1276985202 My Dr. has prescribed a low dose of Seroquel for me to help with sleep while I'm detoxing. I did an internet search for information and found a website that sells this Medication and you don't need a prescription. I'm going copy and past what it says about how to take it etc., Read everything it says, it is "Totally Crazy." Drug Name Seroquel (Quetiapine) Drug Uses Seroquel is masterpiece for treating schizophrenia or bipolar boisterousness.
Avatar n tn and other 170 different OTC and RX that are available). I did not see Seroquel on the list and see that it is mainly for manic depression/ biopolar disorder, etc. Thanks.
Avatar m tn seroquel is a great crisis drug for some people but it isn't a good way of life..took it for months and hated the clumsiness it gave me (athlete) how lazy it made me feel..the overly numb feeling..the blood pressure drops..tardive dyskenisia which i get with most of the drugs lesser with anxiety meds than anti psychotics..Some people just don't do well with these powerful drugs and there isn't a lot of sympathy from people who prescribe them..Omega 3 pharmaceutical grade..CBD oil..
766412 tn?1234893283 When I was taking seroquel, (quetiapine), I found it to be a really stabilising drug, I didn't have any real extremes of mood, and weirdly, never cried. My only problems were that I got very tired at times, and often got cramps in my legs, but after awhile taking it those things became less harsh. Good luck with it.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have been on Seroquel 200 mg for approx one year. Since being on the med I have experienced extreme forgetfulness. My short term memory is especially affected and it's getting progressively worse. I don't think forgetfulness is listed as a side effect of Seroquel. I was wondering if anyone else on this med has experienced the same.
1346724 tn?1282322904 It depends on the severity of his autism. There is no cure for autism but when therapy is started at an early age, there can be great progress.
447130 tn?1225470866 Afetr being on 100mg of Seroquel at night for about a month now, my sleep is back to normal and the seroquel is making me feel better, keeping depression at bay. I've been through a rough 2 weeks with some personal things and I came through like a champ. I don't need Restoril or Ambien anymore and I have adjusted to Seroquel so my doc wants me on it for a bit longer. He explained sleep is crucial to bipolar disorder and ordered my on the Seroquel until otherwise notified.
Avatar f tn said replace the 3rd xanax with the seroquel 25mg before be d to seep how it works. OK i start taking Seroquel Fri night. Sat. i feel tired a little out of it and feel like I'm gonna have a panic attack. I say OK it probably just the meds getting into me. sun feel the same way. Mon. feel like a zombie not in my own body, very jittery lightheaded. also i flipped out on my husband for no reason. took it again Mon night Tues.
Avatar m tn If this is the case, then it is in my opinion not a bad choice, though some would argue there are better(safer) options due to the risk factors involved with the class of drugs to which Seroquel belongs. There are a number of other(*safer*) drugs that are being prescribed for sleeping issues which includes antihistamines such as Atarax/ Hydroxyzine or Phenergan/Promethazine or small doses of tricyclic drugs like Doxepin/Sinequan, Mianserin/Tolvon and many more.
Avatar f tn Seroquel has now worked for 3 nights of sleep. I take clonazapam and lamtrogine. What could I add as decrease 1 of these? Is tegretol a good choice? Long ago I took lithium, but ballooned up in weight. Suggestions to discuss w/my doctor?
Avatar m tn If one looks at the history of treatment of young children with autism, one finds a long list of treatments that have been espoused to be the next cure for autism. Many of these treatments have been embraced with no scientific evidence to back them up.
Avatar f tn The genetic testing was to possibly find out why he has Autism and to provide data for research purposes. His father and I have also given blood for these tests but have not been given our results. I find the whole thing very interesting. I do believe that Autism is a genetic disorder. If blood tests could be refined for the purpose of diagnosis, it would be quite helpful. I've read that some studies have linked this specific deletion with autism.
Avatar f tn t know about medications but there are alot more out there than epilim and seroquel so trying something different may help. That is a discussion for the psychiatrist. As hard as it may be to watch - he has to want to change and has to see this as a problem. You can do nothing except support your mother and tell your father how you feel about the situation (best to do it when he isn't raging - it could escalate into violence and he can't really hear you when raging anyway.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Oh, I wish you luck on finding the right meds. I don't have any success stories unfortunately. The only anticonvulsant I was on was Lamictal and at 50 mg it gave me a rash. Too bad. :( I'm on lithium but extreemly low dose and I need to titrate up soon, probably. I'm happy to hear you are on the right path, though. It sounds like you've found some good answers, like lithium is not so good for you and Seroquel also. Those are good things to know.
Avatar f tn I agree with nursegirl, it is only okay to take seroquel for sleep if a doctor says its okay which sometimes they do, but only in small ammounts like 25 mg I am on seroqu 400 mg right now, and awhile back I was suddenly taken off of it and suffered miserably for days. I would say its withdrawel, I was on 400mg at the time I was taken off it, so mine might of been different than yours. Seroquel can be addictive for those who dont need it,so all you were doing is beginning another addiction!!!
Avatar m tn Hello, A clinical examination is must before deciding the correct treatment for your condition. Few common side effects of Seroquel are dizziness, drowsiness, tired feeling; increased appetite, weight gain etc.Auditory hallucinations can be drug induced pr due to any disease affecting the central nervous system. You should get a clinical examination done. Tests like fasting blood sugar, postprandial blood sugar, and thyroid tests may be needed. Consult your doctor and get evaluated.
Avatar m tn Seroquel is often used these days as an augmentation drug for all kinds of things, but it looks like a lot of it was fraudulent marketing by the manufacturer. So it's hard to tell how well it works for other than the two things it was approved for. The manufacturer isn't only being sued, the federal gov't has also taken action.
Avatar f tn Have you seen a psychologist first? Paxil can be a tough drug for side effects and for withdrawal, and seroquel doesn't seem like an appropriate drug of first resort for you. Since your symptoms don't seem to be super severe, why not try therapy for awhile? Use meds as a last resort, not a first. They all have their own problems, so if you can get some help through therapy, maybe meditation as well, all the better.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if there were any promising Stem Cell Therapies for Autism. I have the stem cells stored for both of my autistic children ages 3 and 6.
222135 tn?1236488221 I care for an adult with autism and i will tell you everyday is a struggle to figure out the most basic skills im on my own and i have a toddler, the hardest thing about this situation is that the adult with autism is me.
470168 tn?1237471245 On the news recently (in the UK) it has said that they are closer to having a pre-natal test to diagnose autism, and that they are also close to achieving hormone treatment for the foetus prior to birth so that the brain is less masculine. I think it is widely agreed that high levels of the male hormone during pregnancy can give a greater inclination towards autism.
1255936 tn?1296623461 I took 25 mg of Seroquel for GAD and it did wonders! I took it for a year and recently got off because my stresses are gone.
