Quetiapine bipolar depression

Common Questions and Answers about Quetiapine bipolar depression

seroquel

1044813 tn?1370494406 Seroquel (quetiapine) is an anti-psychotic medication that originally was approved for use on Schizophrenia but has shown to work for both Bipolar-Manic episode and Bipolar-Depressive episodes. It is quickly becoming a very common prescribed medication for those with Bipolar. With this medication now becoming a common and approved use I was recommending that it be added on it's own.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've had severe depression for about 8months now and have been on medication and counselling etc, and i thought things were getting better as i seemed to get these happy episodes, but now theyve become severe episodes where i feel such overwhelming excitment and happiness.... all i want to do is jump up and down and scream and sing and talk to anyone who is there, and if no one is there i will talk to myself.
Avatar f tn Lamictal/Lamotrigine is approved for management of bipolar disorder but not as a front line treatment because you have to titrate up to avoid the rash. It is what I take. It is good for bipolar depression, and is weight neutral. I was on Wellbutrin and it screwed me up royally. I started to rapid cycle something fierce. I am surprised that you would have a bipolar diagnosis and be put on antidepressants without a mood stabilizer.
Avatar m tn Was it for depression or bipolar or schizophrenia? Unfortunately, while those medications do often work well for the disorder, they do often have sexual side effects. Not for everyone but that doesn't matter since it happened to you. Have you talked to your doctor about it? You could talk to your psychiatrist that prescribed them or your primary care doctor both. I'm sure this is really frustrating. What's hard to understand here though is the drug is long gone from your system.
1027444 tn?1255203218 Could I be going through mania as well as depression rite now? Avatar n tn Around 13, I was diagnosed ith 'Cyclothymia' which was changed to Bipolar II at 15. I've been put in in-patient care twice (for a total of 12 months), Intensive care once, and hospitalized countless times, all for suicide attempts, strange behaviour and self-harm. I was put on quetiapine, which sort of helped, it toned things down a little and helped me sleep, but didn't do much.
644988 tn?1236364548 Having a bit of a panic here. Just been reading the DVLA web site guide to medical conditions and driving. My CPN said today that she's beginning to wonder whether my major depression (diagnosed 15m ago) is starting to look more bipolar. I was there a while before her. Have others lost their license due to official diagnoses? If you're hypomanic rather than manic can they apply the same rules- it looks real harsh to me.
Avatar f tn Does anyone find serequel/quetiapine is helpful within stabilising there moods.. My psych keeps going on about it as bein helpful but I never found it helpful with my mood swings, but wondered if it was just a dose thing? She's reluctant to put me on moOd stabilisers because im a big overdose risk apparently.. Advice?
Avatar f tn Hi! I'm just trying to do some research for my friend ... She's been on Quetiapine (an atypical antipsychotic) for about 2yrs, but previous to this she was diagnosed with borderline hypothyroidism. Suddenly, she has fallen really ill and blood tests have confirmed minor hypothyroidism (T3 levels around 9)... but the symptoms look like hyper!
603015 tn?1329862973 I'm not lLadvocate but to me your escalating symptoms - going steeply south - sound like the definition of hypomanic to full blown mania and why we caustion those that write in to beware of that heavenly roll from depression to Nirvana. I'm not sure what has caused you to go from staedy depression (my normalcy) to what is termed "rapid cycling" which, though undesirable, is a normal manifestation of our mental condition.
520191 tn?1355635402 t make you manic but good for bipolar depression? that are less likely to cause mania or psychosis? Or other medications that have been helpful for depression. My pdoc wants to put me on Effexor but my therapist doesn't think that's a good idea as can cause Mixed, mania, and psychosis in someone with those issues. So for the moment i said no. but can feel myself sinking into depression again. What do you think? What are you on if any?
1670721 tn?1306337284 Hello there, having read all your posts i am amazed how alike we all are. im bipolar but have only been diagnosed the last 7 years, i had been treated for depression before this from the age of 16, i am now 53. My story is much like all of yours, bouts of manic episodes followed by major deppression afterwards. I too have attempted suicide many times & been hospitalised a few times.
1748829 tn?1338037041 Patients with a history of major depression or significant depressive symptoms including history of suicide attempts, or bipolar disorder or psychosis, should be referred for expert psychiatric diagnosis and management prior to treatment initiation.
1052851 tn?1307741160 I recently switched over from Quetiapine to Zeldox, as I had gained 30lbs in 2 mths with the Quetiapine, and this was affecting my self confidence, as well as not being able to fit into my jeans. I studied up on Zeldox, and it was promoted to give you the benefits of Quetiapine, but with minimal weight gain, so after discussing it with my Dr., I thought I would give it a try. The first month, I could not sleep.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist made me take Fluoxetine to treat depression like 3 years ago. I began to have trouble getting an erection ever since. I stopped taking it about 2.5 years ago but the problem persisted. This has caused me severe distress... I lost the woman I loved because of this problem. Sometimes I can have an erection and sometimes I just can't, or it's very weak. I've been taking quetiapine and lamotrigine to treat bipolar disorder for about 1.5 years.
766412 tn?1234893283 Seroquil is not a mood stabalizing drug for bipolar, but it does help bipolar. I am on it and I am also bipolar I. It is considered an Anti-Phsychotic drug. It works best when used along with a mood stabalizer (such as Lithium, and there are others). I am on Lithium, Seroquil, and Clonopan. This is a great combination that works well for me and a few other people i know. Everyone is completely different and take to diferent meds. You need to have a good phsyc. doctor that can get you on track.
Avatar n tn I have bipolar and I've been on antipsychotics (quetiapine) for 5 years and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I've tried to stop taking them previously and I can't sleep at all and my moods and emotions goes pretty crazy which also affects my relationship very negatively. I have spoken to my doctor but he didn't really help me much. I really don't want the pills to hurt my baby. Does anyone have any experience or advise regarding this please?

Avatar f tn I have just weaned off quetiapine slowly under medical supervision due to physical decline in health. I have been off it now completely for 2 days and have not slept at all since. I also have nausea and vomiting. But my question is how long until I will be able to get to sleep again? I am Bipolar 2 and am worried about getting unwell without sleep. All I have read says it could be 1-2 weeks. How does one manage this with a mood disorder and with trying to work etc??
520191 tn?1355635402 I suffer from most if not all of your symptons and have been searching for help for seven years. Your ANA level fluctuates so have it checked again. One dr told me I was bipolar but my husband is truly bipolar and I know I don't have that! I would get a 2nd opinion! I can't get a definite dx or a treatment plan to really help so I keep researching on my own. Like me, u may have fibryo but I think there are other things going on. I wish I could give u better advice.
Avatar n tn What happened does sound like a manic episode, then followed by a depression.
