Quetiapine in bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Quetiapine in bipolar

seroquel

Avatar m tn I'm in the Uk and currently taking Quetiapine, Depakote and Lamotrigine. The Quetiapine for me was prescribed for rage and agitation, I don't feel any anti depressant properties from it, but it has saved my life. Lamotrigine was prescribed 7 weeks ago and I feel a lot better, I am doing things that I didn't think I'd ever feel I could do again. Nobody has ever specified what type of Bp I have, I have symptoms from across the spectrum, I have mixed episodes.
1044813 tn?1370494406 Seroquel (quetiapine) is an anti-psychotic medication that originally was approved for use on Schizophrenia but has shown to work for both Bipolar-Manic episode and Bipolar-Depressive episodes. It is quickly becoming a very common prescribed medication for those with Bipolar. With this medication now becoming a common and approved use I was recommending that it be added on it's own.
Avatar n tn ve been put in in-patient care twice (for a total of 12 months), Intensive care once, and hospitalized countless times, all for suicide attempts, strange behaviour and self-harm. I was put on quetiapine, which sort of helped, it toned things down a little and helped me sleep, but didn't do much. I discharged myself from the first hospital since I wasn't sectioned, but overdosed on on 42 of my quetiapine three weeks later.
1052851 tn?1307741160 And I will add that schizoaffective disorder is schizophrenia with a mood disorder which in my case is bipolar. In schizoaffective disorder a person experiences psychosis all the time whereas in bipolar with psychotic features it is only during moodswings. You could ask your psychiatrist more about it and we have some websites linked up for information. One that's not linked up that you could find some clinically accurate information on in addition to Medhelp is Schizophrenia.
Avatar f tn Does anyone find serequel/quetiapine is helpful within stabilising there moods.. My psych keeps going on about it as bein helpful but I never found it helpful with my mood swings, but wondered if it was just a dose thing? She's reluctant to put me on moOd stabilisers because im a big overdose risk apparently.. Advice?
644988 tn?1236364548 Regarding labels, in a sense it was a relief to know there was a name for what I was going through, on the other hand there is a stigma attached to having any kind of mental illness and I believe that in this country it goes against you when applying for jobs.
Avatar n tn I have bipolar and I've been on antipsychotics (quetiapine) for 5 years and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I've tried to stop taking them previously and I can't sleep at all and my moods and emotions goes pretty crazy which also affects my relationship very negatively. I have spoken to my doctor but he didn't really help me much. I really don't want the pills to hurt my baby. Does anyone have any experience or advise regarding this please?
Avatar m tn i just want to know will i get my life back do my medication work evensally will they ever work i hate feeling alone and want to be normal like my friend and family how i feel is id be better off dead somethime cos i hate it i have bipolar and and coming off eplim and going on quetiapine 300mg a nigth i just hope to good it works ive been in and out of hosptial sice i was 15 years old i hope i get hiope since no cure........
Avatar f tn I have just weaned off quetiapine slowly under medical supervision due to physical decline in health. I have been off it now completely for 2 days and have not slept at all since. I also have nausea and vomiting. But my question is how long until I will be able to get to sleep again? I am Bipolar 2 and am worried about getting unwell without sleep. All I have read says it could be 1-2 weeks. How does one manage this with a mood disorder and with trying to work etc??
Avatar f tn It is often activating though so if you have that problem you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning. Along with Abilify and Geodon, Fanapt and Saphris are two new FDA approved antipsychotics (approved for bipolar as well) that have less of a potential for weight gain. See what happens and keep informed and discuss available options with your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I have Bipolar, but for a while I have been stable (as much as I think you can be), but I have horrific tiredness. I'm 20, was diagnosed with BP 2 years ago, and I've had this fatigue since I was about 14. Every single day I am tired, although it obviously varies from bearable to completely debilitating. The fatigue affects literally everything in my life; I'm not able to do anything I want to do and I can't get a job.
659397 tn?1279413967 I am Bipolar and was taking quetiapine (seroquel) for the last few years on and off. I have been in and out of hospital a few times over the last 10 years and fought like mad to convince doctors and family that there was nothing wrong with me but every three or so years I seem to slip into a worrying state. I have been with my partner for just over 2 years and he knows i am bipolar but has not really witnessed me at my worst.
Avatar f tn last year the baby i was 33wks preg with was stillborn, i called him marcus after that i fell into deep depression understanably i think, then was diagnosed with bpd, and put on quetiapine and sertraline, i have been trying to get preg since sept 2010 but nothing has happened, when i got preg with marcus it only took 2 months and i wasn't on any drugs of any kind, now i'm wondering if the drugs i am on now are affecting my fertility?
Avatar f tn Hopefully someone else here may have experience of this drug. How about putting a question again, this time with Quetiapine in the question heading. This may catch someone's eye, and they may respond. It does help to know how other people have done on the drug we are taking. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
1052851 tn?1307741160 Hi IL was faster as usual, yes i was going to suggest abilify, but why specifically an antipsychotic. In any case it's a newer one than quetiapine and works differently. In many parts of the world now they suggest it as a 1st option and some docs reckon the best mood stabiliser Only that for some they feel a little agitated and with some anxiety or insomnia.
1052851 tn?1307741160 Can you tell me what is in Zeldox that is not in Quetiapine, and if there are any other meds I could try that wouldnt cause these side effects but also not make me gain such a massive amount of weight?
13506861 tn?1430253425 its hard to take care of them let alone myself. I dont know how im going to interact with my roomate today. She is bipolar as well but she does not understand me very well. She is very angry and self jusified and mostly i am guided by my emotions. So i guess you could say i am a bit of the abstract type when i guess it comes to my symptoms its a bit other wordly. Hers, well she can just be a huge bully when shes gets in her moods. Im starting to comprehend less and less.
1670721 tn?1306337284 Hello there, having read all your posts i am amazed how alike we all are. im bipolar but have only been diagnosed the last 7 years, i had been treated for depression before this from the age of 16, i am now 53. My story is much like all of yours, bouts of manic episodes followed by major deppression afterwards. I too have attempted suicide many times & been hospitalised a few times.
Avatar f tn I don’t have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder so I don’t believe I should be on this medication to begin with but I know I am on a very low-dose. As well I have been on clonazepam for 14 years, 2mg in the morning and two at night. I have tapered myself off of the clonazepam so I’m down 0.25 mg at night and one in the morning. I really want to come off of the quetapine and I was wondering how to start coming off of it?
Avatar m tn I had a blood-analysis made and it showed that concentration of hormones in my blood was good. Concentration of testestorone, concentration of oestradiol and free androgen index were even higher than norm. Other things measured in blood-analysis were also quite normal and there was nothing remarkable in blood analysis. I have not taken antipsychotics for over a year but my libido has not recovered. It is known that antipsychotics cause decrease of libido.
Avatar f tn Hi! I'm just trying to do some research for my friend ... She's been on Quetiapine (an atypical antipsychotic) for about 2yrs, but previous to this she was diagnosed with borderline hypothyroidism. Suddenly, she has fallen really ill and blood tests have confirmed minor hypothyroidism (T3 levels around 9)... but the symptoms look like hyper!
Avatar n tn Hi, I am on celexa and alprazolam, and today I was prescribed quetiapine.... I'm not entirely sure why I was prescribed this medication. The reason I am not sure is because I just started to see a new doctor and it is hard for me to be in a big building that I'm not comfortable in because I have agoraphobia. She told me to take these pills at night time and not to drink alcohol with them.
Avatar f tn Remember that leaving your bipolar untreated also has risks and side effects, like the fact that death by suicide is pretty high in bipolar disorder. So with meds, you go for whatever option ***** the least (and you can add treatments to deal with side effects, like taking fiber supplements for constipation that comes with some meds). And every med on earth has side effects.
1052851 tn?1307741160 I am currently on 200mg Quetiapine and 30mg Cipralex in the morning. 100mg Quetiapine at noon, and 300mg Quetiapine at night, along with 50mg Clonazapam. I tried taking Zeldox, as I gained a lot of weight from the Quetiapine, but the Dr. made it an add on and kept me on the Quetiapine as well. I had very bad side effects, and got off the Zeldox immediately. I told my doctor about it, and she changed the Zeldox, which was 80mg daily to Abilify, which I take 10mg in the morning and 10mg at noon.
