I have been on both at differnt times in the past. You want to talk about weight gain? OMG! Remeron makes Paxil look like a diet pill! Taking Remeron is like wanting to be fat.
I have recently switched from paxil to prozac because of weight gain my doc told me to just stop taking the paxil and take 1\2 pill of the prozac for 6 days then take to full dose after 6 days everything was going go until the 5 day of taking the prozac now i am have anxiety attacks and i just feel so out of it i was just wondering if it was just withdrawls from the paxil or has the prozac even had time to kick in yet just tired of feeling so down and out.
I would like information regarding the differences between Paxil and Prozac. I've used Paxil in the past, and the truth is that it is very hard to stop taking it. Right now I'm taking only 10mg (paxil) but I don't feel that is working anymore and have been thinking about switching to Prozac.
I have been on 20 mg paxil for panic attacks for 7 years, I've tried to wean from paxil(felt like had no energy on paxil) many times, unsuccessfully. I've recently switched to 20 mg prozac, without a taper. After about 5 weeks, I started to feel lousey-nausea, diarrhea, no appetite, depressed. Still feeling lousey. Would it likely be better to increase prozac, or switch back to paxil. If switching back to paxil, what are the best ways to do this.
Since lowering the dose, I have lost some weight and started feeling better until the panic started recently. Would you recommend switching to Prozac instead? I am ALWAYS sleepy with Paxil and have become a real procrastinator - not to mention the short-term memory issues and sexual side effect - which have improved with the lower dosing as well.
Said that it is not as addicting and will help me through the paxil withdrawl. ??? He said give it a month and then stop taking prozac and getting off prozac is much easier because it stays in your system longer. I am soo sick of taking pills. I went there for help and I left with more pills. Whatever..
In 2007 i told the doctor that this drug wasnt working for me so he put me on prozac. The withdrawls symptoms from the paxil were horrible and it took forever for the prozac to kick it. the prozac though i feel didnt really do a lot for me, i still continued to have anxiety attacks, trouble sleeping etc. It was like the prozac took the edge off. I have stopped taking prozac again which my doctor is aware of.
i have had major anxiety for 4 yrs now to the point were i cant be elft alone again, and it is or i am letting it control my life i c drs i have just been switched or in the process of switching from paxil cr 50 mg daily to prozac and i take clonazepam. i c many take xanax. i have heard bad things about that. but i am wondering if prozac is a good med for really bad axiety and fears of dieing..everyday.
t know how to do this, and might tell you the Prozac will just stop any problems stopping the Paxil but it probably won't. So that's the first thing. As for the weight, when I stopped Paxil I lost most of the weight I had gained pretty quickly, but how any other medication will affect you is unknown. Prozac is more stimulating, so it might work, but only trying it will tell, but I wouldn't try anything else until you've successfully and completely tapered off the Paxil.
I have been on Lexapro for a while, but due to some side effects I am switching. I am exhausted on Lexapro. I cannot get through the day without needing a nap. I can barley keep my eyes open through the day. This is unlike me. I also am having slight nausea. It's also not helping me as much as I'd like for anxiety, although it has been great for my depression. My doc wanted to switch me to Prozac.
I have been through it trying to figure out if this is even possible. My boyfriend has been taking paxil for over a year, and his last dose he was taking was 40 mg a day. We have moved and couldn't get to the doctor he was seeing. Since then he's been to see one doctor that he informed them he was 'not right' and it seemed the tolerance to the paxil had built up and felt that the mg should be increased... other than that paxil was working like a dream.
Were you tapered off Paxil, or abruptly switched to Prozac? What you were suffering is probably Paxil withdrawal, not "allergy" to Prozac. Prozac actually gets in your system much more slowly than Paxil, and leaves your system much more slowly. Paxil is one of the most difficult meds to quit. What you're getting is bad info from everyone. For one thing, Prozac is just as likely to cause suicidal thinking as Paxil -- all antidepressants can do this.
It's possible, but at this point, three drugs, three sets of problems, so no way to tell. It doesn't sound like a particularly harsh withdrawal if it is one, but it does have that classic Paxil ring to it.
I believe the poster is speaking of Prozac, not Paxil. Any antidepressant can cause suicidal thoughts -- it's right on the label, as required by the FDA, on all of them. Paxil is no worse or better than the others on this point. While I agree that Paxil is a most difficult drug that should only be taken as a last resort, I wouldn't recommend you telling anyone to stop it abruptly -- it's the hardest of all these drugs to stop taking.
I was on prozac for 2 years for panic disorder. It worked very well, but I also took xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety. However, for the first two weeks or so, the prozac made my anxiety much worse. I toughed it out, and it did its thing.
They recommend me going on either Zolaft, Prozac or Paxil. I have heard of some issues with Paxil which they say now studies have shown its okay but I would not want to take the chance since there were issues before...however i wanted to see if anybody has been on any of these drug treatments while TTC and pregnant and have a healthy baby. At the end of the day you need to choose what is best for you. Prozac stays in your system for a shorter amount of time than Paxil. Paxil is strong, one of the stronger SSRIs and can be very difficult to get off of. I am taking Paxil and have been for the past 16 years. I started off at 10 mg then 20mg then 40 mg. Paxil has worked for me most of the time in addition to a very low dose of Klonopin both of which I take in the morning. You should not have to suffer. Is your doctor a psychiatrist ?
Never been on it, but remember, we're all different. And don't rule out some continuation of Paxil withdrawal, since you didn't finish it, you medicated it. And since remeron and Prozac work differently, and since Prozac and Paxil work differently, no, taking one doesn't necessarily do anything about the withdrawal from the other except medicate it. It might work, but it might not.
