2899052 tn?1436831245 I'm recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism with Graves' disease. The endocrinology doctor prescribed me Methimazole 10mg (3 tablets) in morning, that's 30mg. I also have to take Propranolol (3 times a day) every 8 hours to control my palpitation. I'm very concerned about take Methimazole because I heard it will give me liver problem and I'm very scared of taking radioactive because it can harm my eyes. Am I wrong? I need to know if they are they safe?
Avatar f tn My son David has been sick with hyperthyroide for almost 3 years. He is taking methomazole and propranolol. he is not married and has no children, so we say 'no' to radioactive treatment. I hope that we can find other kind of cure. please let us know if there are any kind of new treatments and research groups that we can contact. thank you and God bless you.
Avatar f tn Hi I have graves disease. I found out Jan 29th this year. I ran out of propranolol (becuase when I break them they crumble sometimes) so I didn't take it for a day. my heart rate went up to 116. I am taking them now. I do feel good though. Really good. The only thing is that I do get tired. I am ready for bed around 10:30. but I awake at 6:00 in the morning.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last august and have been on propranolol and methimazole since. I was taking four methimazole and now my specialist increased it to 5 and that really makes me sad. I'm gaining weight and feel so awful about myself. Yes i am feeling better which is worth alot but my hot flashes are insane. My pituitary gland is what the specialist refers to as "sleeping" and so I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to wake it up.
Avatar f tn I have had shaking hands and legs, rapid heartbeat, trouble swallowing, sweating, anxiety, depression, mood changes and shorten periods now for years and thought it was just me. The doctor started me on propranolol but it seems to not be working as well as it did in the beginning. I feel like I am going crazy.
Avatar f tn You should also ask for Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI), which is another test to determine if you have Graves Disease. The TPOab and TgAb that you have can be present with Graves Disease, but TSI is the definitive test for Graves. What are the actual values for the Free T4 and Free T3?
Avatar f tn The endocrinologist found a nodule, and did a scan which indicated it was hot. He also ran the antibodies test for Graves which came back negative. Listed below are my lab results (2 different labs) and medications: LAB RANGE: TSH 0.34 – 4.82 mU / L Mar 6.10 TSH - .01 LAB RANGE: TSH 0.38 – 5.5 mU / L T4 – 10.5 – 20.0 pmol / L Mar 15.10 TSH - <.06; T4 – 21.6 10mg Methimazole; 80 mg Propranolol Jul 5.10 TSH – 4; T4 - 13.9 Sep 6.10 TSH 7.2; T4 - 15.
Avatar m tn Agree that it would be good to post your actual lab results, with reference ranges, so we can see what they are. You also need to get tested for thyroid antibodies. You should get tested for both Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is most often associated with hypothyroidism, but is commonly characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism, as well; and Graves Disease. It's possible to have them both.
Avatar f tn My daughter (6 years old) was diagnosed the beginning of June with Graves. Since then we've been on Methimazole. We started with Atenolol but 3 weeks into it was put on Propranolol 4 times a day to get her heart rate under control. We were told that in a couple of weeks if her numbers weren't down we'd be doing RAI. Next visit the numbers had moved T3 was down from 15.9 to 7.1. We were happy to finally see progress.
Avatar f tn Dr. Lupo , is there anything that will help this disorder. I have Graves Disease , took RAI in Oct of 08 then a few months later my eyes began swelling and tearing. I have been told there is nothing that can be done. My Eye Doctor says it is a unpredictable disease and will see me again in two months. Is there anything I can do at home , other than tear drops and wait? My Blood work showed TSH at 0.0 and my Free T4 at 1.85 . I know this means I am still Hyper. What should normal levels be?
Avatar n tn My 4 yr old son was diagnosed with Graves' disease in Sep 07. PTU and Atenolol were started immediately. He has responded to both medications (Atenolol was discontinued in Dec 07). However, TSH levels are still below normal level. T3/T4 have been within normal range since Jan 08 but are fluctuating with dosage changes. My son complains of joint, shin and back pain periodically. He has excessive height compared to kids his age (4 inches above 100th percentile for his age).
1494095 tn?1288784877 I went to my drs (didn't know they were open until noon today) they simply increased the dosage of propranolol by a 1/2 tablet, so now I'm taking 2 and 1/2 tablets a day and I have to have a heart monitor vest for a week. Shrug... They did an ecg? elctrocrdiogram today in the office and said the bpm were 7o so it looked good.... arghhhhh why don't these drs listen to their patients ???
Avatar f tn I have been trying to do some reading on it so i will be able to understand more. He is currently on tapazole and propranolol. Since beginning the tapazole, he has been having major mood swings. He realizes that he is having them but doesnt seem to try and control it, or maybe he cant control it. I am at a loss of what to do. I dont know what to say to him because i dont know what type of mood he will be in. He can have several ups and downs within one day.
1413042 tn?1281770262 I had this condition for over 10 years and was never put on Propranolol. I was completely well and put off all medicines. Then on 11th July, I got a bad panic attack. The BP was 180/110 and pulse rate was 150. I kept getting panic attacks, which the endo concluded to be due to hyperactive thyroid gland. Then from 23rd July 2010, I was put on Propranolol & NeoMercazole (Carbimazole). I take 10 mg Propranolol twice a day and do not get any fluctuations.
Avatar n tn iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01. what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
Avatar f tn Hi im Nroor from Iraq I had previous hyperthyrodism since 2006 I treated it with neomercazole and propranolol and my TSH return to normal level so my doc. Said stop taking ur medications no need to it since 2008 I didnt take it and I have no symptoms of the disease and my period is so normal every 30 days. I had missed abortion in may 2012 un 7wks.
Avatar m tn I am new to this site but really need some support. I am a male of 18 years old with Graves' disease. It's really tough being a teen and losing my entire senior year to this. I never want to do anything and I feel terrible literally all the time. I was started on 30 mg of methimazole for moderately severe hyperthyroidism on December 24, when I entered the hospital with a heart rate of 170 bpm. I was on a beta blocker until March which was terrible, especially the withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2003 and opted for total thyroidectomy once they found cold nodules in my uptake scans. Biopsy revealed that I had papillary cancer in addition to Graves. RAI treatment went well and I was declared cancer free in 2008. I now have questions after 7 years regarding the Graves. Once the cancer was found all my doc talked about was the cancer, Graves was pushed to the side and we treated and talked about only the cancer.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comments. I guess that I was thinking that once they had her levels to normal, it was a matter of taking meds and all would be good. I'm very concerned about her beginning school in a few weeks. We go in for blood this week and back to the doctor the following week. Since you've had RAI, do you have any of the Graves symptoms or did it all go away???
Avatar n tn There is a particularly strong connection between celiac disease and autoimmune thyroid disease (includes Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' diseases). Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the western world.
Avatar f tn I forgot to add that my family dr dx me with Graves disease about 2 1/2 years ago and has me on PTU and propranolol. I now am dealing with a nutritionist to try and help me lose weight, part of her treatment was to get new labs done. She is still waiting on the Results of my TSH receptor antibody test. She thinks that I may have both graves and Hashimotos but isnt sure yet.
Avatar f tn 8 and the lowest is .3. I can recognize when I am hyperthyroid, and have managed with taking propranolol as needed. I feel fine when my TSH returns to a higher level. More recently, I have moved and started an intense school program. I started having hyperthyroid symptoms and have had severe anxiety and only slept a few hours a night and had diarrhea up to 10x a day, and lost 10 lbs in a few weeks. I felt so ill that I could not stay in school. I had my thyroid tested and the TSH was .
Avatar n tn Hi- This is my first time on this forum. I have been diagnosed with a hyperthyroid due to Graves'. I have been on Methimazole 10mg 3x a day for four weeks and was on propranolol for the first two weeks. I am off the propranolol. After three wks I am now taking methimazole 2x a day. Since the on set of this illness I have had achy/painful gums which seem to get more severe with each episode. I have seen my Dr., dentist and a periodontist. Tylenol helps. No one can find a cause for this pain.
Avatar n tn I have been on it for 4 weeks and see only a small improvement. When to DR today and he doubled my dose of propranolol and I did blood work and they are scheduling a scan of my thyroid. I have already had an ultrascan and it should increased blood flow to the thyroid. I have never felt so emotional in all of my life.
