Paxil and mania

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil and mania

paxil

Avatar f tn He has never suffered from anxiety before. His shrink upped the Paxil to 20mg and gave him a low dose of xanax (0.25mg and later 0.5mg) to take as needed. He also takes clonozapan as needed, but both these drugs make him fuzzy or put him to sleep, so he can't function/work when he takes them. The past week has been horrendous. He wakes up terrified! Sweating, heart racing, crying, and terrified to leave the house.
574118 tn?1305135284 I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.
Avatar f tn I worry that I am having mania. I have trouble controlling my laughter in public. I cannot stop once I start, and I have little or no real reason to respond in this manner. Will I level off? Can I continue to up dosage to desired therapeutic level of 150mg without going completely bonkers??!! Thanks for any advice.
Avatar m tn That should not be confused with mania. However, if Paxil which is an anti-depressent has caused you to feel manic then you should speak to your psychiatrist as if a person has bipolar sometimes anti-depressents can worsen mania and what is needed is a full mood stabilizer but only a psychiatrist can make this determination.
Avatar f tn Thank you very much for your response. In '99 I went into the only full blown mania I ever had. I remember this well. I was detoxing from Paxil and was manic the last week of Aug' until first week of Dec' '99. Then I crashed heavily for next 4, lots of sleeping! I get anxious or hyper easily and whenever for whatever reasons. Again, thank you.
Avatar f tn I actually just had a related converasation with my Psychiatrist about Wellbutrin and Paxil. We were just talking about anti-depressants, and he mentioned that Paxil (and other similar ADs) are more likely to send someone manic than Wellbutrin. Those weren't his exact words, but rather my take on what he said to me about the comparison. Good luck.
1105920 tn?1259961288 My husband was on Paxil and Wellbutrin, and both made him lose his sex drive completely, the though never entered his mind. Creativity comes in spirts. Sometimes you are movitated and sometimes you are not. Like I said I just brough my art out, it has been over a year, there was no particular reason for me not to do my art, I just didnt feel it, and I was not medicated then, so I wouldnt worry about that. I would suggest discussing the anti-depressants with the Dr.
950277 tn?1247274551 I was on celexa 2 years ago. I have a really bad record with any type of antidepressant, and like all the rest I ended up in the hospital as a result of it. Everyone is different, but that was my reaction to it.
Avatar f tn Ambien as needed for sleep. My mania seems to come at night the most and sleep is an issue. I was prescribed xanax for the mania as well. I'm very hyper. In the beginning, I was told no too. But when my new doctor saw how hyper I was first hand, he didn't have any problems filling the prescription. I also suffer from anxiety attacks. Thus, I was having one in his presence. The 1st doctor I saw, I asked for xanax because everyone in my family takes it....it works for them....
11214965 tn?1416269155 I've diagnosed with Bipolar since 2008 have tried Seriquill, Paxil, now I'm on Remron is this a good drug ?
Avatar m tn My bf is withdrawing from Wellbutrin and has been off it for about a month and he has been experiencing a number of side effects to include severe pain, muscle atrophy, terror nightmares, depression anger and mania and more.
213972 tn?1206050188 Has anyone on here taken Paxil during pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby? In my case, my doctor thinks the benefits of the medication will outweigh possible complications the drug may have on baby. I'm not pregnant yet, but trying to gather as much information as I can to make an educated decision about this.
Avatar n tn I have been on and off Paxil for 5 years now. I started on CR low dose, now at 30mg no cr. My body is used to it... and it doesnt help me very much anymore-although it is better than being with out any medication at all. Soon I will be getting re-evaluated and I know they're going to ask me to wean off it. I am really scared, because I know the few times I have lapsed in dose, it has been absolutely horrible. Any advice? Any info? Everything I find online is abstract and not really helpful.
574118 tn?1305135284 The drug has minimal side effects or interactivity it says so suitable for geriatric I tried to surf the web and after one whole day I could only find this link of a patient addressing a psychiatrist possessing a site asking him about the relation between tianeptine and bipolar mania this patient lives somewhere in europe and her psychiatrist told her it's the only AD which doesn't cause mania.
Avatar f tn Abilify is approved as a monotherapy too, though, and will probably do more for your mania. Still, it is your right to make truly informed decisions, which includes knowing the relative risks and benefits of all drugs. If you want Lamictal and your psychiatrist doesn't, you have a right to have him explain to you in a way you can understand why he thinks it's a bad idea.
Avatar f tn t just spouting off things, I just checked the drug interactions with Adderall and Paxil and Zoloft, and both were the same.
574118 tn?1305135284 As I stated it worked fine for me on both mania and depression. I was stable at 325 mg. for close to ten years. It did at the end worsen mania but that's an extremely high dose. But in the meantime it was working well the whole time on both manic and depression. As for mood stabilizers it is typical to change after a decade for some people at least. It does happen every now and then.
Avatar m tn I take 200 mg of Lamictal daily. 20 mg of Paxil daily and several other medications that are heart related. My job has been extremely demanding lately and a couple of times I accidentally forgot to take my meds. I have been inthese meds for sever all years. By mid day I had the shakes and it was very hard for me to concentrate. It led me to the conclusion that something I take is physically addictive. I skipped the Paxil one day and didn't have any issues.
Avatar f tn Hey, I have not taken Effexor but was on Paxil for about 9 months and after several cold turkey Paxil quits and throwing a week or so of Lexapro and a couple weeks of Zoloft in on the mix I am finally about 3 months off of EVERYTHING and still most definitely a mess!! Lots of dizzy spells, jittery still and have this weird inner vibration thing that is quite annoying!! I have seen my doc and had normal bloodwork, thyroid check and MRI but she still won't own up to it being from Paxil....
209384 tn?1231168306 Right now I'm on 40mg of Celexa at bedtime. It kicks my tailend. Within about 1 hr I'm literally falling out of my chair asleep. Then I spend the entire day feeling like I've been drugged. Realized the Celexa was causing this when I missed taking it a couple of nights in a row for different reasons. Wasn't on purpose, but boy did I feel better in the morning. So took it again last night and am just dead today.
459981 tn?1212193981 I tried Zoloft and had a terrible experience with it but have also used Paxil CR in the past and had great results. I cannot use the paxil CR while pregnant so i am wondering which SSRI to pick. any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support.
Avatar f tn I seem to remember back 15 years ago that I was initially diagnosed with cyclothymia, and then moved back to my original home state and saw someone else that said it was Major depresssion and not cyclothymia. Currently psychiatrist in a partial hospital program that put me on Prozac said I now need to get off Prozac and we will try something else. She doesn't know if it is bipolar, but she thinks it is "activating me", and prescribed Risperadal 0.
574118 tn?1305135284 now i am just returning from a visit to my pdoc. Today mania started because I dared to take seroxat/paxil for 20 days 20mg but what can I do, I had depression. I stopped going to work and tomorrow I shall send a paper saying I have vyrimia i.e. attacked by a virius. Last time i said my mother was severly ill. I hope they believe me this time. I know it's hazardous to take an AD unless I take a mood stabilizer to go along witht.
1237757 tn?1323143119 m worried he might also be in the first stages of being launched into mania. Does anyone know how close these two are related and if similar side effects could be expected. I noticed Cymbalta is also a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor which worries me. When he saw his psychiatirst initally he did mention that both myself and our other brother also have mental issues. But I'm not sure if he mentioned if I was Bipolar.
Avatar m tn Hello- I just wanted to give my opinion on your situation because I have thought I was bipolar since I was 15 as well. I'm currently 25, was diagnosed with bipolar by a nurse practitioner when I was 21, but only met her once. I have tried Paxil for depression for 3 months when i was 22. that made me extremely hostile and homicidal. my mother was in denial about it and kept me from getting the right help I needed.
Avatar n tn I have had 2-3 episodes of Major depression during that time , and possibly 2 episodes of a (light mania?). I am not sure if I am bi-polar. I was treated for postpartum depression after my second son and put on Paxil for anxiety with mild depression 4 years ago.
Avatar f tn with no success each time I fly high in happiness then stumble into the bloody mania and each time the mania takes longer to extinguish. True i didn't try st john's wort but read about others' experience and still it brings mania. Of course there are AC's like lamictal which has AD property or abilify an AP with same action activating etc...but i am speaking of an SSRI say because it also kills not only depression but also anxiety and along with OCD. But in vain.
