Neurontin dosage maximum

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin dosage maximum

neurontin

It helped with my muscle spasms a great deal. I finally developed a tolerance to it up to the maximum recommended dosage, so switched to a different med. But it worked very well for me, with low side effects. Good luck.
My doctor has suggested I try neurontin (or I guess the generic version). I'm not very fond of taking medicine (I know, I'll have to get over that real quick if I get diagnosed LOL). I will most likely try this. I think my sleep is being interrupted after a few hours sleep because I'm uncomfortable. Not in pain so much, but sore and achey.
I agree you should ask your PCP for more neurontin, phasing it in as others have described, because it can be tricky to get the just-right dosage. Often some experimentation is needed. I also urge you to find another neuro. The one you have doesn't seem to be your partner in managing this disease, and almost seems like an adversary. Who needs that? Find someone knowledgeable, compassionate, and with good communications skills.
I dont know if the doctor would care to reply, but do you find that people tend to gain or lose weight with neurontin? Is the weight gain proprotional to the dosage? I have been taking neurontin for just over a year. Within a few months I had gained over 25lbs. My weight had been stable for years prior to that. I now feel better but am on a low dosage, run 3-4 miles 4-5 times a week but still cannot get back to my original weight. I have had very little other problems with the drug.
I was just given a script for Neurontin (Gabapentin) from my neurologist. Need to know side effects. Also, how tolerated is this for a persons stomach or digestive track?
I am still on the neurontin for nerve pain............but 32 days clean today from Hydrocodone. I am on 600 MG's of neurontin 4 times a day, but I don't take it that much I usually take one in the am then one in the evening before I go to bed.
the dopiness mentioned was more of a drugged out stupor for me and only occurred at dosage changes. Tingling in the fingers or toes lessens over time; occasionally have bad days. I do tend to have numbness in the tips of my fingers most of the time. These things I've gotten use to. What I've finally discovered from reading here, is the cause of the hair loss which was extreme over the last six months.
I am having trouble finding out what is a safe maximum dosage of Diamox for psuedotumor cerebri. When I had asked my daughters neurologist this question, she said there is no maximum dosage which I found hard to believe that there wouldn't be a max dose on any medication. My daughter is 15 yrs old and had been prescribed a total of 2500 mg per day divided into 3 doses. Does anyone know the max dose for diamox? Thanks!
I agree, to be on the safe side, call your pharmacist. When my neuro recommended I slowly titrate up my dosage, I added 100mg every few days. You should gradually increase up to the point that you get maximum relief. That might be 600mg, 3x per day, or it might be less, or you might need more. The max recommended safe dosage is 3600 mg per day, which is the dosage I currently am on, (1200mg x 3) with no side effects.
However, if your neurontin seems to be less effective, you might check with your GP about upping the dosage. If you're already on the maximum recommended dosage, there are other pain relievers like Lyrica that might be more effective.
Elavil, for the first little while, but nothing major. Neurontin - well I was up to 3600mg/day, the maximum dose, and it never ever made me sleepy. Others here have reported problems at only 100 - 300mg/day. I'm now experimenting with Lyrica; coming off the Neurontin slowly and going up on the Lyrica. GP prescripted up to a max. of 150mg per day of Lyrica. Right now I'm at 100mg Lyrica, 1800mg Neurontin, and 50mg Elavil.
The first dose I took made me feel very weird, but after speaking with a pharmacist friend (who takes the maximum dose of this medicine), he encouraged me to continue taking it. Now, I can hardly tell I'm taking it. I take 300 mg 3 times a day. It is very inexpensive. I hear it also helps with many other problems besides nerve pain, such as: chronic headaches and anxiety (good for me). Taking this in combination with other pain medicines provides the maximum pain relief benefit to me.
before you would reach the maximum dosage. So I went from 400mg/day to 1200mg/day with very little relief and no concern from the neurologist. I am currently only taking 30mg, twice a day of Prevacid for a Hiatus Hernia that acts up occasionally. Other than that I am on no meds at all other than what is prescribed. I found that very interesting about the dose wearing off in it's ability to help my pain symptoms but the dose is too high with it's side effects.
and increased to 75, 150 and the maximum dosage is 225 mg. However, I am under the care of a p-doc and he has me on 300 mg. per day with 20mg. Celexa and 30 mg. of Risperdal. Honestly, I am still having issues but I am willing to give it more time as the Celexa was only introduced 3 wks. ago. Effexor is a wonderful antidepressant but I have been on the drug for 8 yrs. and feel it is losing it's effectivness for me.
I have been given Lyrica by my Neuro. I have been going up slowly on the dosage for three weeks. I am now at 150 mgs. twice a day. I feel terrible. I am dizzy, my brain is in a complete fog. I am having typing simple sentences. I am running into walls, I feel like I have to lay down. This stuff is making me sick as you know what. Please give me some advice. This can't be normal. It sure isn't helping the pain. Is this going to go away with more time or what is going on.
-) it drives me insane but Gabapentin helps, infact at the moment I tried going off the Gabapentin (Neurontin) but as soon as I do my pins and needles or prickly feeling comes back. I too don't have MS but it works for me. Good luck with it all. Cheers, Udkas.
I am really concerned that your doctor is confusing the maximum dosage for lyrica with the maximum dosage for gabapentin(neurontin). Consistently, lyrica is not recommended in doses over 600 mg. Gabapentin on the other hand can be OK at four-figure amounts. I was taking 2400 mg. before switching to lyrica. Please check and rule this out. I would just wonder how terrible it may (or may not) be to take 4 times the recommended dosage. I'd have him show me where 2500 mg. of lyrica is safe.
I don't have a confirmed diagnosis of MS yet, I'm still probable, anyhow to your question I take Gabapentim and was worried to start because I always have side effects or allergic reactions. I take it 3 times a day, very slowly titrated up to my dosage. I find when I make an increase it causes drowsiness and dizziness in me. Usually lasts about 3 days. It has worked well for me.
It affects everyone differently, and with you jumping right into 100mg, I can't say for sure. Honestly, I have been told that 200mg is the maximum dosage! 400mg is A LOT of meds with Lamictal. Did they warn you of SJS? You should speak to your pdoc about the effects. I bet your naseau was HORRIBLE taking that high a dosage right away!!! When you might realize that you are getting more stable is when you have an episode and you can recognize it and deal with it.
sometimes my anxiety gets very intense and sometimes 1mg doesnt settle me down enough...what is the maximum dosage that xanax is prescribed in? is taking two 1mg tablets too much? i only did it one time and it really helped..i just wanna make sure im not overdoing it...
I finally tried something for the nerve pain, Neurontin, and it has actually been helping my sciatic pain, for the first time EVER...since 1995! But I have just started, but the very first day, it was noticable! Nevr have I had a minutes relief before! And I was so desperate, I finally took what the doctor wanted me to try. I have only had some relief with oxycontin in the past, but it was noticably less effective when they obviously changed the formulation.
Dosages tend to vary with the only concern that is general by doctors or psychiatrists is if a person builds up a tolerance to it. Regardless of dosage its best any specific decisions be made by a psychiatrist who has more specific clinical knowledge than a GP.
so we move on and try the Neurontin... I reach the maximum dose of 3600 mg day very fast but with the 8 mg of Klonopin it was too much sedating... also it was doing nothing at all for my anxiety, just pins and needles effect... so we move on with the Lyrica, who was the same as the Neurontin, no improve at all... In the summer of 2007 I choose to withdraw the Klonopin... we taper it with a big dose of Valium... cut to 6 mg of Klonopin + 80 mg of Valium a day, who was a lot sedating at first.
darvocet is another narcotic, so yes, it will ease or even stop WD symptoms but it's not one i'm familar with so i couldn't tell you about the dosage. you don't want to take even more than you already are, b/c then the WD will be more severe. clonidine i have heard has helped many. but i don't know which WD symptoms are your worst and i believe it only helps with blood pressure related things so racing heart, the shakes and dizziness perhaps. my doc said it won't take actual pain away.
My doctor said I'm on the maximum dose of Neurontin as it is...1200mg 4x a day... It definitely helps with the nerve pain. I've noticed though that my pain inceases exponentially when I toss and turn at night and heat packs only work the first few times I use them unless I use it... wait a couple days thru pain and then use it again as hot as I can handle it.
I did have one doctor though, that had me wrongly diagnosed, I told him that I had been taking my friend's lithium and I thought I was bipolar instead of major depression, and he gave me the meds! maximum dosage, along with the rest of the cocktail I was taking! none the less I was right about the misdiagnose but wrong about the meds. So nope I am not trying to say which meds are best for me). I was curious about Michael's meds because he has gone through the same things I have.
You might want to ask your doctor to try increasing your neurontin dosage, since most people report pain relief beginning at dosages of 3000mg/day; some doctors prescribe up to 5000 mg/day. I personally had no relief of my occipital neuralgia (ON) pain even at 3600 mg/day, which was the maximum my insurance was willing to cover. I have had good results with Lyrica (yes, another calcium channel blocker) and Keppra.
I went to the hospital and had an, ekg, blood work, urine , and a cat scan, and everything came back normal. I had since cut my dosage to 50-75mg of the ultram before I go to bed. I wanted to quit taking the ultram all together, but when I would go to bed I would feel very nervous and jittery.I'am trying to wean myself off the medication totally. I'am feeling some what cloudy during the day.
I TAKE NEURONTIN FOR THE PAIN AND A MUSCLE RELAXER BUT THEY KEEP HAVING TO BOOST UP THE NEURONTIN EVERY 4 MONTHS OR SO, AND I'M FIXING TO REACH THE MAXIMUM DOSAGE ALLOWED FOR A PERSON OF MY WEIGHT. I AM A SMALL FRAMED WOMEN (I USED TO WEIGH 180LBS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, BUT WHEN I'M SUFFERING WITH MY NECK I REFUSE TO EAT) WHO WANTS TO EAT WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU JUST WANNA DIE SO THE PAIN WILL GO AWAY) DON'T GET ME WRONG, I'M NOT GONNA GO AND DO ANYTHING STUPID, I'M JUST TELLING YOU.
Johnson and Johnson recently changed the dosing instruction again, instructing patients to take less of the OTC tylenol and less often which tells me they still don't know what the safe maximum dosage really is as there must still be people having liver problems who are taking close to 4,000 mg per day maximum. I got away from the vicodin because I would be nearing that max dosage, and that was too close for comfort so I understand you and your doctor's concerns.
