neurontin

630344 tn?1280104983 Yes, I'm learning that if you're going for symptom management, hitting both nerve and muscle pain is key. Otherwise it's like kool aid with no sugar! I'm not sure there is a great test to determine neuropathy, I think it can be a matter of ruling out normal causes for pain so nerve pain is what's left. There are many causes and classes of neuropathy, including small fiber neuropathy that doesn't show up on standard tests.
382218 tn?1341181487 Does the Neurontin make you sleepy? I also take it for the pain in my feet. It doesn't make it go away but without it I would go insane. It also seem to help with my thigh muscles. They tend to work better when I take it. I only one pill 3x day because it makes me so sleepy and when the electric shocks hurt so bad and I have one toe that abosolutely is madden it feels like someone is pulling the skin down as hard as they can over the top of it. I'll then take 2 which does help.
Avatar m tn I was just prescribed Neurontin today for neuropathy from chemo. In answer to your average dose question, here is how it was prescribed for me... 300 mg capsule-take 1 the first day, twice per day the 2nd day, then 3 times per day from then on. Hope this actually answers your question. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn He also takes 1800 mg daily of neurontin for the neuropathy. Neurologist says the only cure for the neuropathy is treatment for the HCV. His hepatologist wants to wait for new drugs. This situation is growing worse daily, My husband says if I tell his transplant dr about the drug use he will leave. Do you have any suggestions or advice? Thanks for your help.
1278070 tn?1276224405 Hello, I have been taking 600mg of Neurontin (gabapentin) for neuropathy 3x a day for a week, I am working my way up to 900 mg 3x a day. Does anyone know how long it will take before it is working and I can tell a difference???
Avatar n tn I found that Neurontin increased the number of migraines I had and the severity of them, and while I was on Neurontin I had migraines preceded by visual field disturbances--patterns of flickering lights all over the filed of vision of my right eye--that I had never had before the Neurontin and have not had since. My overall experience of Neurontin was not good--it screwed up my calcium/magnesium levels and threw my thyroid and adrenal systems way out of whack.
18432675 tn?1464832893 Hil All I can say is that memory problems come from the brain, a part of the central nervous system, and so are not connected to peripheral issues. I've taken far more gabapentin than your dosage for many years without memory lapses, but what happens to me is not necessarily what happens to you. I suggest you wean yourself off this med and see whether the problem persists. If it doesn't, then gabapentin was likely the culprit.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had an experience with neurontin? It was prescribed for burning hands and feet and I feel very wierd and crazy..and dizzy.
Avatar f tn ) So from all the post above I am sure that you have figured out that the usual Rx of Gabapentin (neurontin) is usually used (off label) for Nerve pain..Also known as Neuropathy. Originally it was used for Seizure disorder. Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. I too have not heard of this medication used "Off Label" for balance issues. It will be interesting as to how it is going to work though. So please keep us updated on how it works for you.
Avatar f tn I am 2 chemos away from finishing my round of six and have developed peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet. I am on 300mg Neurontin 3 x a day and it still seems to be getting worse. The pain keeps me from walking long distances and I cannot hang my hands down; I have to keep my elbows bent. I have also tried acupuncture. I use warmth to alleviate the pain but it is only a temporary relief. Any ideas or experiences?
Avatar f tn Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with. If you have other experiences with it, please comment on this post and let me know. I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
Avatar f tn Neurontin is a nerve blocker to help w/neuropathy pain. I have been on it about 6 months for fibro. It seems to help a little with some of the pain sensations I get, not so much with the others, and it never seems to lower my pain level more than a few numbers on the scale. I was up to taking 300mg 3x per day but most days now I only take it at night, unless I'm having a lot of trouble with the tingly, shocky kind of pain.
1645454 tn?1301109800 Am currently taking 300 mgs Gabapentin q 4 hrs for Trigeminal Neuralgia and now, severe neuropathy from knees to feet. While it helps with the TN, it's not helping with the neuropathy. So, am going to try Lyrica. My question is: what would the same dosage of Lyrica be? The doc just told me 100 mgs Lyrica 3X a day?
Avatar f tn I am in my 3rd week of 10000iu/day after being deficient for many years. I was put in wheelchair after frequent falls (dizzy and balance issues) and labelled MS...I am noticing burning pain in my back and arm, Anyone else get this? Other symtoms are improving but this neuropathy? is quite painful..Thamks for any input, Really appreciate this forum!
600857 tn?1230057770 Please do not worry about Neurontin. I have taken it for a long time and at twice the dose your at. I have not had one problem from it and it does work on my nerve pain. I have had absolutely no side effects even from the increases I've had. In my opinion, it is a completely safe drug. If you have any douts about it then Google "Neurontin Side Effects" it should give you a really good indepth look at the drug.
419955 tn?1203011044 I may or may not have SFN, but i do have some kind of neuropathy. I do take narcotics for the pain in addition to lots of lyrica and a small amt or amytripiline. antidepressants don't work for me, but narcotics do help me a lot. it seems like with the lyrica and such, I still have the pain but it isn't as overwhelming or i am too loopy from lyrica to care, but when I reduced the lyrica dosage and added in fentanyl patch, the pain was significantly reduced.
1490607 tn?1288379690 Has any one heard of or experienced being on Cymbalta and/or Neurontin and where the side effects suddenly became MS like symptoms after being on them for a year?
Avatar f tn Neurontin caused weight gain and I became allergic to lyrica as well as gaining weight. In the past two years after stopping lyrica due to laryngeal edema, I lost 20 lbs. I also started a gluten free diet and dropped another 30lbs. I do much better without that extra 50 lbs. I'd rather deal with the pain than deal with excessive weight. I'd like them to concentrate on the cause of the neuropathy, nothing they have made any attempt at.
Avatar m tn Have the neurontin around for diabetic neuropathy but haven't been taking it. Just thought as long as I have it..... can't find it anyway. I'm on day 3 and still have the crawlies. Had root canal yesterday and said no to Vicodin. Just want to stop feeling like the addict that I am. Had a really bad acupuncture experience tonight but still have faith in my guy. I'm counting on him to keep me from running back to the drug addled pain free life.
Avatar f tn I don't know. I remember taking it as a mood stabilizer for a while (it didn't work in that capacity but then again that's an off label use). I didn't have any severe side effects of concern, some dizziness, fatigue, nervousness and some minor nausea, all of which might have gone away in time if I had stayed on it longer.
Avatar n tn Hi, Pianists usually develop median and ulnar nerve neuropathies due to the constant movement of finger and strain on the wrist joint. These neuropathies are usually seen in professional pianists and usually improve with rest. Physical therapy and neurontin usually relieve symptoms if the neuropathy is advanced.
Avatar n tn I suffer from small fiber neuropathy as well. I used to take Neurontin but after being on it for several years it was no longer effective. I now take Lyrica (100mg in the AM and 300mg in the PM). You might find this to work better than Neurontin. The one thing I like about it is that it doesn't make me as tired.
Avatar m tn He learned that the MSIR, given for the cancer treatment pain, was able to manage the neuropathic pain. There has been no etiology determined for the neuropathy. His Lumbar puncture was normal except for elevated protein. His skin is very hot when his pain is bad, & he is lightheaded & unsteady.
969912 tn?1250564426 I had the burning you describe for years until I suggested Neurontin to my doctor. It acts like Lyrica which my insurance didn't cover. Neurontin numbs the pain at the 'nerve endings' thus cooling me down. I also tolerate hot weather better now, too. I take 600mg twice a day.
Avatar f tn I've had a prescription for gabapentin for several years. I take 1600mg daily for neuropathy. Don't take that as what you should take, however. I've had no ill effects from it at all. Not addictive, at least in my long term experience.
Avatar f tn I am really so sorry about your husbands pain. Not being able to sleep is awful and depressing. I took something called Neurontin for my leg pain during my first tx, it seemed to help me quite a bit. It is prescribed for neuropathy. It also made me a little drowsy so I was able to sleep. I think I mentioned before that I started with B-12 injections and they helped my leg pain from neuropathy a lot. Now using the sublingual which seems to be working. Is he monitoring his sugar?
