681148 tn?1437661591 What was the dosage you took to deal with the nerve pain and how long did you take it before the nerve pain stopped? I'm not concerned about the safety of the Neurontin at the low dosage I'm taking. I'm actually more concerned about the effectiveness.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking 60mg of Nortriptyline a day for neuropathic pain. It hasn't been effective so I am planning to switch to Neurontin. What is the average dose of Neurontin for pain management? More specifically, with a chronic pain level between 5-7. Is there a database for Neurontin dosage? I will be ramping to 300mg of Neurontin per day but am wondering if that's too conservative.
Avatar f tn Neurotin is chemically similar to the drug Lyrica. Neurontin is also used to treat nerve pain caused by herpes virus or shingles. It can interact with hydrocodone, morphine or naproxen and others. I have taken it but it was not successful in treating my sciatic pain. However others have had relief. I hope this bit of information helps you. If you have additional questions please continue to post. Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.
600857 tn?1230057770 Please do not worry about Neurontin. I have taken it for a long time and at twice the dose your at. I have not had one problem from it and it does work on my nerve pain. I have had absolutely no side effects even from the increases I've had. In my opinion, it is a completely safe drug. If you have any douts about it then Google "Neurontin Side Effects" it should give you a really good indepth look at the drug.
Avatar n tn I am a 52 year old female who had shingles in the groin area on my left leg, and on my left thigh about 8 months ago. I had little pain at the time of the outbreak however, I developed pain on the same side as the shingles outbreak, like electric shocks, which shoot from my groin to my knee. My knee will burn with prolonged standing, and after sitting for prolonged periods, I can hardly walk when I get up.
Avatar f tn ve never had shingles before now. I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do because the Concerta is helping my ADD, but I also believe it at least played a part in my shingles outbreak.
Avatar m tn I've had them but caught it within 48 hours so my primary care put me on acyclovir, which cuts the duration as well as the aeverity. I think you might be too far in for an antiviral. Narcotics aren't the best way to treat shingles pain. Ask for neurontin or lyrica. Cymbalta may work but that takes longer to kixk in. Treating shingles pain is pretty basic. If your doctor doesn't take your pain seriously, you might want to look at finding a new doctor.
Avatar f tn My doctor is starting me on Neurontin. Has anyone had any luck with it or had any side effects?
Avatar n tn Has your mother seen a Neurologist for evaluation? I had Trigeminal Neuralgia after shingles on my face, and the pain is worse than anything I've ever felt before. She definately needs to be checked out.
612205 tn?1225594910 yea my stepdad had neurotin for nerve pain and it is used for shingle pain i believe...if u ever have shingles...What did ur doctor prescribe it for? I dont believe its really habit forming....I have taken a couple before and they didnt produce any "high" or good feeling...the feeling that causes addiction.
Avatar m tn We are still in the process of ruling things out. FMD is treating her for Shingles with Valtrex, and Post Herpatic Neuralgia with Neurontin and Vicodin, but nothing has helped yet! Haven't considered Lupus at all. Her vit. D, and B12 has been historically low, and she is on supplements for both. Oral vit. D, I give her B12 injections monthly and levels have been normal! Diabetes has been ruled out already.
Avatar m tn I'm glad you posted this. My Dr was going to prescribe me lyrica for shingles pain but I was hesitant and refused at the time. I did some research on it when I got home and actually found that lyrica is approved in eroupe for anxiety. I also read reviews of people taking it for other things and found that it helped with their anxiety. Glad to know it is working for you. What dosage are you on?Where your prescribed the lyrcia for anxiety or something else? Hope it continues to help you.
Avatar m tn i have had internal nerve pain from my right t-sec/lower shoulder blade/r-arm/ down to my index finger and thumb. the pain feels like internal shingles. i know because i have had them once on my stomach. pins/needles in the finger and thumb. at least that doesn't hurt. some days worse than others and some times during the day not noticable. no way to get comfortable enough to sleep. have to take a nerve pill and pain pill.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I'm just curious if anyone is hearing that Neurontin is being abused? I was given this for nerve pain but couldn't tolerate it as it caused serious slurring of my words to the point people thought I was intoxicated. I also had trouble word-finding on it. But I didn't think it was something anyone abused. (Though I slurred my words, I didn't feel high or intoxicated with it; I sort of felt locked in ... I knew in my head what word I wanted but couldn't get it out.
Avatar f tn I take 300mg 3 or 4 times a day and have been at this dosage for about 9 months for bulging C6/7. I'm scheduled for surgery in a few weeks and I want to stop the neurontin. My body starts aching horribly, and my mood really goes bad if I'm late for a dose. I'm on day two of eliminating the mid day dosage and I'm doing so-so. Does anyone have any advise for me?
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn Also at one year mark for post herpetic neuralgia from shingles. Neurontin, Lyrica, various pain meds, cortisone shots in back....nothing helps. Internist/neurologist/pain mgmt. specialist/ physical therapy....nothing helps. Now have intermittent burning, stabbing pains in back, side, legs. I also have rheumatoid arthritis. I don't know which way to turn!
Avatar m tn My mom had shingles five years ago and was left with nerve damage and pain....The doctor prescribed amitriptyline about two weeks ago...She has had no relief from the pain and cannot stay awake, has dry mouth and her vision is blurry. Can she stop taking the medication cold turkey (since she has only been on it for two weeks) and how long does it usually take to get any pain relief from this medication.
620877 tn?1282764097 For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....
Avatar f tn Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with. If you have other experiences with it, please comment on this post and let me know. I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
