My friend Flycaster is right. Why the switch at all? The Metoprolol is a beta bocker and the Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker, so I would have to wonder why the switch. The beta blocker would improve blood flow, while the calcium channel blocker helps the heart ryhthm and/or heart rate.

While it can cause for concern at first, it probably points to a very healthy muscle. I was also very athletic in my 20s and early 30s, and my heart muscle might be showing some signs of that wear and tear.

A HR of 120 at rest is indeed high, and you mention a muscle relaxer. You also mention hypertension and I wonder if you are on a beta blocker, e.g., Metoprolol. The BB family of medications reduce both blood pressure and heart rate and would seem to be in order for you. I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. I've been dealing with PAC's/PVC close to five years now. They come and go in intensity but have lately been really active. I finally started to take Metoprolol 25mg 2x day. I haven't noticed any significant change in improvement other than maybe they don't feel as strong but they are still there. What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap).

My electrophysiologist recently put me on a beta blocker (Metoprolol) 25 mg twice a day for hypertension and a ton of other symptoms he said must be due to Neurocardiogenic Syncope. more than usual, I just eat another banana and in about an hour everythings good again. No pain...just a sense of movement in my chest. Dr. tried to change me to Terazosin but the flutters were intollerable so he put me back on Metoprolol. My BP is high on the 50 mg of Metoprolol (169/90) so he wants to give me 50 mg Metoprolol in the morning and another 50 mg at night. I'm worried that this will increase the heart flutters.
