It could be a side effect of the methadone or even an allergic type reaction to it. I remember when I took Macrobid (antibiotic) for a urinary infection, I had a high fever (102.3) every time I would take it, so I called my doctor's office and they told me to stop it immediately because I was having an allergic reaction to it. As it turned out, my father had had this same type of reaction to it a couple years before.
After a number of years on Methadone in the later part of 2017, I was shocked to find a tooth had simply snapped off at the root. Several more teeth quickly followed before learning it was a possible side affect of taking Methadone for so many years. There was no warning, no pain or discomfort, and even though I had all of my teeth and only two fillings at the end of 2016, my dentist blamed me for poor dental hygiene.
They kept increasing my dose until at my highest I was taking 600mgs of methadone daily and was a walking zombie and suffering some sever side effects. It was hell trying to decrease from that high of a dose down to 30mgs to make the switch to suboxone.
High doses of methadone long term have really screwed some people up. Also as a new methadone patient be sure to pay special attention to your oral hygiene.
I wish i had never been offered Methadone. I never noticed any side effects up untill about 2yrs ago. I have every known side effect,but the worst one of all at the moment is excessive sweating. My quality of life is zero. I sweat from head to toe most days all day. I sit with ice ,cold can's of juice sitting on my cheek's,my breasts and my wrists. Ive put on 4st in weight,and i know this wont be helping the situation. I don't know what to do anymore.
So today my Celexa dose was upped from half a pill to 1 whole pill and the side effects are coming back like when I first started... Sweaty, can't sleep, headache, stiff neck, clenching teeth... Etc. I don't know what to do. I tried taking stuff for it, including an Oxy but still no change. What can I take to make these side effects not so bad? I don't see the dr till Thursday, so I can't ask her... If anyone has any suggestions?

I would be careful with it too because dry mouth is what causes tooth decay and is why people sometimes say it rots your teeth. It really isnt the methadone that is rotting your teeth its the dry mouth. Ur saliva is your teeths natural defense and without that its unprotected. They make a mouth wash called biotene that is pretty good the prob is it only works for a little bit and u gotta swish again. And its very expensive. But I have never heard of any weird tastes thats def not normal.
My husband developed squamous cell carcinoma 5 years ago. After 8 weeks of intensive radiation treatments, along with chemo, his behavior also changed. He doesn't remember things!! He also lost the use of his arms, his shoulder fell out of it's socket, he can not speak and can only eat thru a feeding tube. In the summer of 2009, after two years on home hospice, his tumors disappeared!!
I was on methadone for a year and if you take oxys while on it, you won't really feel the oxys, so it would kinda be pointless, plus the should drug test her at the methadone clinic. I wouldn't recommened methadone for anybody. Make sure you know all the side effects. are these the side effects of someone on methadone????cause i dont understand how i can be so talkative in the past and have such a strong personilty.. then turn into a zombie with no emotions, is this what happens after taking the pill for a while.. as i said im a 26 beautiful women.( i dont feel that way but i have men talking to me constantly,) get compliments daily.
When i met him(1990) he had already started to slow down(just weekends). I really need to know what are the most common side effects that everyone goes threw. Please i am scared. The hospital where he is being treated has classes for him & I so that we both can beaware of the whole situation. Is anyone familar with YALE Hospital. One of the best in the country.
Then I dropped the codeine. After about a month, because of side effects, I tried to go back to Codeine, but had problems sleeping, So, For the last 2 months I've been on about 30 mg. Methodone, and about 10 mg. lorazepam daily. I know I'm going to be tapering of the lorazepam for quite a while, and I don't want to be on Methodone during that entire time.
