I was on oxy for a long time before I ever took a methadone and ya, methadone can get you pretty lit if you take a lot and it would probably appear just as if hes on oxy. As gnarly said if hes nodding out hes taking too much.
First you need to calm down and relax......this stuff isnt a fast or easy fix. Might help if there was a little more information. How many of what strength are you doing? Almost a year.....sounds to me like you are starting withdrawls when your mind races. Its actually a classic panic attack and is quite common when quiting a narc. Check out the health discussions at right side of page. Look up the Thomas recipe and Amino Acid Protocols...and read them. Then think about using them.
it started with pot, then went to lortabs and xanax and stuff. and then i got some oxy's. well to make a long story short i had to go on methadone. I have been on methedome for almost 2 yrs and its helped me so far but i quit at 15 mgs just 3 days ago. it is almost impossible for me to go to sleep. i have tried to quit cold turkey at 75 but any-body who is on methadone knows how that was. but i have been tapering myself down for a while 5 every 2-4 weeks.
My husband has been prescribed 8mg of Subutex and a sustained Xanax pill, that releases 2mg for about 12 hours. Does this sound appropriate? It's for opiate cravings, he hasn't been a junkie in years. He just succumbs now and then and it's usually poppy tea. I know the side effects of opiates. Subutex is not supposed to make you high, right? But he is pretty much sleeping around the clock, his eyes are half open, he seems apathetic and removed emotionally. It's freaking me out..
Alprazolam (Xanax) and methadone are highly addictive narcotics, both physically and psychologically. These two drugs should never be 'mixed' or even taken relatively close to one another unless the reaction is literally being monitired by a doctor and/or medical staff. I am an addict and I know from experience how dangerous this combination can be, trust me; you're playing with fire.
My mom called last night - she's been on methadone for about a year now - she was taking it 3x a day (30mg) but said she is only taking it at night now - but she has recently started sleeping all the time - she's always relied on some type of narc or opiate (car accident, many back surgeries, knees, blahblah) - she has always liked pills - I'm not too familiar w/methadone and I'm also not sure if she abuses it - I know she passed a recent drug test - she also has an implanted pump that gives
I've known 2 people who over the last year and a half who have died from doing just that and both were taking a lot less methadone then your sister is taking.I'm not trying to scare you.Just making sure you know what a fatal cocktail that can be..I will keep your sister in my prayers. All the best...
I was clean from Alcohol/Xanax for almost 2 months and recently relapsed for about 4 days maybe 5 drinking liquor and taking xanax bars throughout the day/night and it's been 2 days since I've had a drink or taken Xanax.I would like some input on what to do?Should I take a very low dose of Xanax alone(without alcohol of course)?I feel the W/D symptoms and having trouble sleep would it really set me back if I took a minor dose?
i been on xanax and methadone 5 yrs everyday..am copd and sevre sleep apnea..im on low dose of both..and i never had a problem..even went to the er 5 times from the anxtys of taking it..they said as long as i been on these..its ok...so what can a person do..if your taking methadone and you hooked on both meds hmmm you have to take them..so its dam if you do and DAM if you dont... word fro the wise benzos are a cns med that enhances methadone or any narcotic..it may reduce the breathing..
However, I lost a friend this weekend after he mixed methadone and Oxy. It had turned my world inside out as I know he didn't take much of either. Plus he wasn't even ADDICTED to oxy, he just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.. How much of each is needed to create an overdose??? This has been awful.
Is he taking the xanax with the methadone? Methadone and xanax are both central nervous system and respiratory System depressants they are dangerous to take together.
I cant tell you how many people died from mixing methadone and xanax but its happening at alarming rates everyday. I go to a meth clinic and had a phyc doc prescribe 2mgs 3x a day also. I dont remember most of the month if you know what I mean. GET HIM HELP NOW. Things got so bad with me I became homeless and came clean to the doc that I was an addict. They stopped the scripts and I havent taken xanax like that since. It makes the person look like theyre going to fall over just standing still.
They also last a very long time, which leads me into my question, i have heard of Horror stories about Methadone withdraw lasting over a month and being worse then Heroin. Im ready to quit, and am prepared to deal with the Normal Vicoden withdraw that usally lasts about 8-10 days, but im not ready to handle over a month of withdraws.
I'm in my 6th mo on Methadone at 130mg and I sleep and nod all day and go home and sleep all night and I am not using other meds. I know my dose is to high causing this and i am lowering it now. Does your b/f have any trouble speaking when he looks pie eyed. When I took to much soma it affected my speech and I would stumble around some. Make sure you get more than 2 or 3 words out of him and see how it sounds. If he is using lets get him back to the good person he was and not hang him here.
My husband went ct 14 months ago at 20mg of methadone and 8mg a day .it was very tough but he was finally sick and tired of being chained to the meth bottle and pills. Look at the health pages on the right side of the page. Keep yourself hydrated.get immodium.take hot epsom salt baths.vitamins and protein shakes. So proud of you to want to be clean. Life is so much clearer with all the poisons and toxins in your body. Many times much of your pain is actually in your head.
I am nor sure I understand the question regarding the methadone and the oxycodone. is he prescribed both? is he in a methadone program and taking the oxycodone and benzos? It is very important for him to talk to his Doctor and tell him honestly what he has been taking and what dosage so the Doctor can help him ween off at a safe rate. it is not advisable to do this himself, he really needs the Doctor's assistance in tapering off these medications.
Virginia Pact, MD has sold her practice and she really knows very little about how to withdraw someone from methadone anyway. I use to be on 15 mg daily and I took myself down very slowly from that dose to about 7 1/2 daily about a year ago. I was afraid to go all the way down in case my pain became severe again. I got the withdrawal information from the local methadone clinic at that time. (My doctor thought I should just stop taking the dose...very bad idea.
they are speaking of using benzos like xanax after you have stopped the methadone and are in WDs....I have never taken methadone but my son worked at a clinic and if the person tested positive for benzos they could not have their dose and it was against the rules...You should talk to your doctor about any medications u decide to use...especially if you are still taking methadone....it is good that you are interested in quitting..lots of support here..
I am a chronic patient of panic attacks, palpitation and anxiety and tried each of the above-mentioned medications, such as Librium, Valium, Ativan and Xanax. I found Ativan and Xanax more effetive and suitable. My physician has advised to add up Buspar, 5 MG combined with Xanax 0.5 MG Does somone at the Forum has some experioence and information about Buspar?
Hi Dee , you are doing a great job!!! As gnarly says, the last 10mgs are the hardest and from my own experience, I had to space out my drops from 10mgs on, I did mine every 10-14 days, that way your body gets used to it and you don't feel as much withdrawal. I know that you want to get this done ASAP but I urge you to listen to your body. Try not to think of what it will be like after you are off, just be glad you are getting off this nasty drug!
its eazy to forget how many somas you take...I have been there done that..one mistake mixed with methadone and you dont get a second chance...I hope you realize just how dangerous this is we are litterly talking life or death here....this is nothing to mess with get him to a detox b/4 your taking him to a funeral home...if you call around and get a social worker involved you can find a free detox center in most citys...we will support you in what ever you decide...
I have been on Benzos (Xanax, klonopin, Valium) and Methadone for 9 years now and no adverse side effects! The doctors urge people to keep them apart because you can overdose if not careful. But, you can overdose on almost anything with Methadon and I have a bottle of tramadole here with 500 in it and it's just trash cause I know it can put you into withdrawals!
Seems to me like you would be one who would need to taper off of methadone/suboxone. I have used methadone for the past 4 years and and I have been going cold turkey for the past 10 days and am just now starting to get the shakes and stuff under control....I am sorry to be so blunt but methadone is evil to ME..and I too have done oc's and vic's and perc's and tabs and any other thing with codeine in it. someone will come along soon to give you better advice..
She even went on antidepressents to help, but when she went down only 3 mg, she was freaking out and decided to go back up. Then she found a website about methadone and the people in the forum there promote staying on it forever. They actually compare methadone to insulin, and when people go there asking questions about detoxing they get angry at calling it "detoxing" ("you wouldn't detox from insulin would you?") and they give the person reasons to stay on it.
I keep hearing how it would be a better high if I mixed the methadone and pain pills. Very dangerous, I know. I guess I need to get my butt to another NA meeting. I don't want to f@#$ this up since I promised my loved ones I would go inpatient if this failed. I DO NOT want to do that. I just don't understand why I was satisfied for several weeks now I feel tempted again. I guess that's the nature of the beast!
John's Wart is a stronger herb, but shouldn't be taken with many other drugs, it is very similar to Xanax. Yes, it is natural, but people can OD from taking that herb and xanax together.
Here I am in the state's worst county jail and I am dying from wds, I had to cold turkey from over a year of constant daily use/abuse of 120 mgs of methadone and over 10mgs of xanax among other benzos on top of that and they wouldn't give me anything other than offering me a tylenol 1 time. I can truly tell you that was the scariest, worst six days of my life.
I was in suboxone treatment for a little over 8 moths. and stayed clean , and I have now been a part of a methadone clinic for almost 10 mths. and counting. I was severely and heavily addicted to snorting heroin and/or Oxycontin. I was using so much every day it was basically just to get me to baseline so i wasnt sick. It destroyed my entire life.
Prior to that, you will need nutritional supplements. We tapered from 110mg. methadone from Aug.'07 to 7mg. March 6 and went cold turkey from there. We reduced by 5mg. per week down to 45mg., then 2mg. per day thereafter down to 7. That is a fast taper and there is no way our bodies had time to catch up but thus far it has made a world of difference. Your frame of mind is an important aspect of this detox Stay positive with your eye on the prize.
For him to speak about it and say that he can't imagine being depressed and on methadone is unwarranted and uneducated. I am now on methadone and never uttered a word (except questions) about methadone before I was on it myself. I don't think it's fair or accurate for anyone, including myself, to make blanket statements about drugs that we've never tried. I think this is a case of people valliantly trying to help, even though they know little or nothing of the circumstances.
