Metformin with iv contrast

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin with iv contrast

glucophage

Avatar f tn s terms, there is no longer any need to discontinue metformin before or after IV contrast in most cases.
Avatar n tn I m diabetic and using metformin, but I red that are risks of kidney failure with the contrast if my kidneys are not working fine. My PD forgot that I was using metformin till I told him and told me to stop the medication for 2 weeks before the scan. If my kidney results comes with normal level of creatinine is it safe to do the contrast? Can a MRI without the contrast reveal any more than just a CT scan. I would rather pay for the MRI than CT scan with contrast.
Avatar f tn I had a contrast IV for a Chest CT. It infiltrated, causing pain and swelling. I need a follow-up scan (a 6-month check). What are the chances this will happen again. I have tiny veins and am nervous.
541196 tn?1293552936 speak with the radiology department where your MRI is scheduled to see their procedure. Depending on the contrast being used, some will want you to be off any medication with Metformin for 2 days prior and after the procedure. Check in with them to be sure.MRIs are sometimes not included in that group, usually it is concerning CAT scans. In regard to the vision changes: your doctor should specify what kind of vision changes are in question.
Avatar m tn Although Iodine is contra-indicated for those of us with Hashimoto's, having the CT scan with contrast (iodine) isn't going to hurt because it will leave your body relatively soon. You should talk to the imaging facility or your doctor regarding the barium - do you take that on a regular basis? If so, why? You should also ask about taking your medication prior to the scan or if you need to be off it for a while.
Avatar n tn I had an IV inserted for contrast dye for an MRI. Now the area is a lump, swollen, red , and itchy. Any ideas what to do?
Avatar f tn They took one picture, put in an IV and injected a contrast dye and took another picture. The contrast dye is the same one they put in when you have a kidney x-ray, it is iodine based. It gives you a somewhat unpleasant warm flush feeling for a short time, maybe 1 minute. I needed to make sure I had no blockages in order to try a new drug for my Afib. I had a heart cath 7 years ago and it was good, but they wouldn't let me try Rhythmol until they knew I was still clear.
Avatar n tn I'm due to have a CT scan tomorrow with the contrast dye injection. I've had one many years ago with no allergic reactions & have taken the medication inodine for diarrhea with no adverse reactions either but I've heard of someone who didn't have a reaction to their first CT scan with the injection but on the second, did have one with an outbreak of hives.
Avatar f tn No, one ct with iv contrast was performed on my abdomen, the other ct was done on my lungs also with iv contrast, all normal. I've had uc for 8 years and this feels somewhat like a flare up but not totally,I started asacol three days ago it has helped with the pain on my right side and rectum ,and no my dr did not mention a colonoscopy. Also I've not had all symtoms of a flare so I'm not sure what is going on......... sorry it took so long to get back busy mom........
772785 tn?1237737313 For me this is not even a question. Here's something that made me laugh. My doctor ordered an MRI of my brain to see if I had MS. When she gave me the order I asked if they would use contrast and she said no..... that being said here's what happened. So I get to the MRI place at the hospital and they take me back and start an IV. This gets my attention.... I asked why and she said "for your contrast material of course!".
765921 tn?1240405239 But if I have it with and without, then do I go in and have the first MRI just normal, and then they hook me up to an IV or however they do the contrast dye stuff, and then put me back in the MRI machine to do it again? I just want to know what exactly to expect. To me, this sounds like the only way to do it unless it is two different sessions. I had a nerve conduction study and EMG on my right arm in January, and it came back completely normal.
Avatar f tn iv just been diagnosed with pcos and have been trying for a baby for over a year now, my gp has put me on metformin, has it worked for anybody else?
Avatar f tn hi everyone just a wee quick question on people taking metformin,iv been taking it for over 6 months now and i still find that am getting side effects such as nausea and upset tummy, especially as soon as i eat somethin, does it get any easier the longer your on it,sometimes id rather not take it but were ttc, and from what iv read it has helped loads of people lose weight and helped people to conceieve, thanks ladies if u have time to reply.
Avatar m tn Sounds like the nurse or tech hit a valve in the vein and/or the IV contrast irritated the vein. Since you have had this for a month, I would recommend having the site assessed by your PCP/Family Physician.
499534 tn?1328704178 My dr has ordered a ct of my sinuses with contrast. My history: Hypo from Hashimotos....and I always seem to have 1 or 2 small nodules that come and go. Is it safe to have the contrast die with hashi's? My labs are normal and stable on armour right now. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.
Avatar n tn My doctor wants me to have open MRI of Pituatary with IV contrast. Can this procedure be done without the IV contrast? A family member had the same test done and suffered serious allergic reaction to the material.
Avatar f tn However, over the last month, they have increased in frequency and are becoming unbearable. I have visited a cardiologist who has ordered a Cardiac MRI with contrast this week to look for diseased or damaged heart tissue. I am terrified. I've never had an MRI. I have anxiety on top of the heart rhythm issues, so I'm just hoping I can survive this 90 minute procedure. Has anyone else had this done? What can you tell me about it? Thanks so much for listening.
Avatar f tn I had a partial nephrectomy on my right kidney for a malignant tumor. Today I had follow up testing done with contrast die and iodine or whatever they put in the four big glasses that I had to drink every 15 min. Well, now it's 11 hours later and my kidney is really hurting very painful 7 on the pain scale. I took an oral toridol and it is t helping at all. Will this pass? Is it normal? Any help please.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know why they don't use an MRI with contrast to diagnose the condition of the liver? They are much better than a cat scan, are the not?
Avatar f tn This January I started metformin again, one week in I had a very strange period with no sypmtoms which lasted a full week it's only been 12 days since that one finished and Iv got another period, again with no sypmtoms. It's driving me mad, I don't see my dr until end of March. Anybody know what's happening. Thank you.
Avatar n tn msjazz is right, the 'oral' contrast is used so the radiologist can see the GI tract and such (it helps visualize it better and can identify abnormalities better than without). The IV contrast is used to highlight and identify other organs (for instance, kidneys, etc.) that will not be visible easily without it (it can help identify abnormalities that was as well).
Avatar f tn I have a Brain MRI with R/O contrast scheduled and I'm freaking out!! Anyone ever have this done? I've never had an MRI, let alone IV or any contrast. Of course I have anxiety and I'm freaking out about the procedure. What does it feel like? How long do you feel it go through you? Any side effects? Any dangers? How does one know if they are allergic to the contrast? Please help me understand a little better and calm down. Thank you!!!!!!
Avatar f tn I had two CT scans, one with contrast dye, the other with a special contrasting agent that did'n't contain the same dye(one without iodine as an ingredient). The first CT Scan was blamed for the end stage renal disease I now have, because it is known to be very hard on the kidneys. The second CT scan was done as though my kidneys were ailling, but they were already gone, forcing dialysis, which I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life.
