Avatar f tn I am looking for advice and encouragement for my brother and sister in law who have been trying to get pregnant for a year. Sorry if it annoys you that this is in the wrong section. She was diagnosed with PCOS in December and has been taking Clomid for the last 5 months and getting blood tests done every month to see if she is ovulating, which she is. Do any of you have PCOS? How long did it take you to get pregnant? Did you have to use medicine?
Avatar n tn Hi there, me and my husband are trying to conceive for 3yrs, i have PCOS, my ob recomend me to take metformin for 1 month, is this gud? Am i going to be pregnant with that metformin? For how oong i would wait for the reault? Anyone knows about this, help!
Avatar n tn In one study conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University, 24 obese PCOS women were given metformin or placebo. The 11 women who received the metformin experienced a reduction in insulin levels, which slowed the activity of an enzyme in the ovaries that stimulates excess production of testosterone. As a result, testosterone levels also dropped.(3) Glucophage appears to do the same for non-obese PCOS women, according to a study from the University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland.
1843973 tn?1326131704 You said you tried metformin, were you taking the met while you were pregnant?? I know that it is possible for us pcos girls to get pregnant and have healthy full term births, I know several women who have!! Don't give up!!!! Metformin during pregnancy seems to do wonders, again, I have never been preggo, but I know many women who say it was the reason they carried the baby full term.
Avatar f tn It helps regulate menstrual cycles, start ovulation, and lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin can also help in regularizing menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 40-45% of women with PCOS.It may be more effective when taken with Clomiphene .Do consult your gynecologist for more queries. Please keep me posted. Best regards!
245020 tn?1209657943 I'm wondering if anyone has taken metformin to help you become pregnant, and if there were any side effects with it. I took one 500mg pill on Friday but am scared to take anymore because it upset my stomach so bad! Anyone have any success stories? How long were you on it?
780153 tn?1287568947 I too was diagnosed with PCOS two years ago. High testostorone and low estrogen levels which made me understand all those mood swings. I do have already a son who is now going on 6 years of age. I was trying to conceive after my son turned 2 years of age and nothing happened. When my son was 4 I ended up taking a whole physical and blood work, and thats when I was told that I had PCOS.
1582478 tn?1296591223 It doesnt always work for everyone with PCOS but it does work for alot of women. It didnt work for me. I was taking metformin 500mg 3 times a day. I was also taking provera to help me get a period so I know when my new cycle starts. And than my dr had me on clomid. I started out on 50mg than 100mg than 150mg. It didnt get me ovulating and my dr would only keep me on it no more than 6 months so I finally went to see a fertility specialist and he knew what he was doing.
1907238 tn?1340711313 I have been googling it and going on discussion boards for infertility, and many women have gotten pregnant very soon after starting it, so yes, you can get pregnant while on Metformin! Many doctors will tell you to keep taking it throughout your first trimester as it is thought that it can help reduce miscarriage rates.
Avatar f tn My doctor kept me on metformin and said to take it the whole first trimester. Also other women in this forum who got pregnant were on metformin until 12 weeks. I think the decision to stay on it or no it depends from doctor to doctor, i have had 3 m/c so my doctor kept me on it to minimize the chances of m/c but it hasn't worked cause iwth metformin or without i seem to m/c within the 8 weeks. Have another opinion from another doctor.
Avatar n tn If you are already ovulating regularly and are having regular periods, then metformin will not help you to get pregnant. Of course, if you need metformin for other reasons, such as diabetes, then you should take it regardless.
Avatar f tn I READ IT WORKING FOR ALLOT OF WOMEN .BUT NOT SO MUCH FOR ME MOST OF ALL WOMEN WITH PCOS ARE PUT ON METFORMIN ..
Avatar n tn i have been on metformin for a year at 1500mg per day and still nothing. My biggest fear is maybe I should just give up on my dream of having a big family and just go with what i have now. How bad is your PCOS. maybe my doctor misdiagnosed me or something. Although i have been to 10 doctors and they all same thing but maybe there is something else wrong.
Avatar f tn Metformin may lower the risk of miscarriage or gestational diabetes in women with PCOS, but this has not yet been confirmed by research. Metformin is probably safe to take while you are pregnant. But because metformin is only FDA-approved for the treatment of diabetes, you should talk with your doctor about the use of this medicine for reducing your risk for miscarriage or treating PCOS symptoms. Side Effects The most common side effects of metformin are: Nausea.
Avatar f tn hi im 21 and i was told when i was 18 that i have pcos and it will be almost impossible for me to get pregnant i have been on clomid and it did not work.. now im on metformin.. has anyone with pcos ever had success with metformin and getting pregnant?
Avatar n tn Another med docs use for PCOS is Metformin. Metformin is not FDA approved for PCOS but many docs will still use it with success. Metformin is a med for diabetics. However, many women with PCOS have insulin problems, which Metformin can help with.
233562 tn?1282768382 Women with PCOS that are taking metformin, have a greater chance of getting pregnant. Don't stop taking the medication if you become pregnant, unless told so by your doctor. Contuining to take metformin even after you conceive, helps to prevent miscarriage in the first trimester. Metformin helps lower blood sugar and treat insulin resistance in women with PCOS.
415867 tn?1323365503 Some studies suggest that metformin may also be useful in weight loss for women who are not diabetic or have PCOS, but more research is needed on this point.
Avatar n tn Weight loss will help in obese women. Also consult your gynaecologist for an evaluation. Insulin sensitising agents like metformin and induction of ovulation with drugs like clomid will help you conceive. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
6594228 tn?1432178509 I have pcos and am taking metformin. My doctor put me on birth control a year ago I didn't like the way it made me feel so I only took it for a few months. I had been wanting to try metformin for a while and she finally prescribed it to me a month ago. I think for some reason doctors are so quick to put women with pcos on birth control, but that doesn't fix the real problem only covers the symptoms.
1907238 tn?1340711313 the doctor gave me pill but not metformin..im wid my husband for almost 4years but im not getting pregnant yet..pls help me if its ok to take metformin without dr advice..

Avatar m tn I am wondering, if I do get pregnant this time, should I stop taking Metformin. Is it safte to take Metformin after pregnant? Will it cause any harm to baby? Thank you very much!
