Avatar f tn I get such severe menstrual cramps every month and it's unbearable.. I started this morning and have already taken my prescription pain medication, but it's not working. I'm wearing a heating pad which slightly helps. I do all the "home remedies", though I'm still in pain! What else can I do for pain management?? I have an appointment with my gyno in a week and a half, but today and tomorrow I have the extreme pain and want to do something to stop it now. Any ideas?
800104 tn?1251386237 This might sound dumb but....If I have really bad cramps and upset stomach I find some relief by having a wintergreen lifesaver/hard candy. Peppermint might work, too. I don't know what it is about it but it would help settle me. You may want to consult a gyno to find out if maybe birth control could help control your symptoms. Best of luck!
1729448 tn?1342094737 Does anyone know any ways to relieve pain during your period? I usually don't get cramps but today my period is starting and I'm having back pain. I've had the pain a couple days but I spaced it on my period i forgot it might be that causing it. Like I said, it's unusual for me. I have a heating pad on my back and I'm laying down and i took 2 prescription strength ibuprofen (my mom was taking them and then stopped when she had hip replacement surgery). Any other advice?
Avatar f tn I never needed it but for the first two days of my period. Advil is not a pain reliever or pain medicine, it is a muscle relaxer, basically. In other words, it blocks the prostaglandin that cause muscles to cramp, so they don't cramp. That's why it is so good for menstrual cramps. I don't recommend pain pills or opiates for period pain, but Advil can be just the thing.
Avatar f tn m 40 years old, and judging by my older sisters and mother, I likely have another 11-12 years before menopause. Over the last year or two, my menstrual cramps have gotten much worse. I get chills and shakes, aches in my joints, nausea, headache, and massive cramps. I've tried heating pads, lots of fluids, bed rest, Aleve, and other OTC pain relief. I went to see a new midwife for my last annual about 18 mo ago and forgot to mention it to her, then felt embarrassed to call in about it.
Avatar f tn Have you tried taking any naprogesics for the period pain relief? These may provide symptomatic relief for mild period pain. However, based on what you have described, it sounds like your condition is a little more serious, which could possibly be dysmenorrhea or endometriosis.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone! I have a question about menstrual cramps, and any help would be appreciated. I have been suffering extremely painful cramps for years now, ever since I got my first period when I was 13. I'm currently 18 and am going off to college very soon, but I have no idea how to deal with these cramps that incapacitate me for an entire day. My cramps get so bad that I usually faint. For example, when I was around 14 my period came in the morning but I still went to school.
1267061 tn?1271122594 When you notice them, try lying down, and resting. Paracetamol is good for pain relief. If it gets serious, and or unbearable, call your dr, just to be safe. All the best.
Avatar f tn Over-the-counter pain medications, warm compress and rest may help provide relief. However, if the abdominal pain persists, check with your doctor to rule out other causes. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I'm 20 weeks. And these past couple of days I've been getting menstrual cramps and some type of pain (feels like needles poking me) inside my vagina and lower back pain. Should I be worried? I had an appt today but it was so quick like 5 min. He didn't even measure her. I'm switching to a midwife. It's a bearable pain but I just want to be sure its nothing.
Avatar f tn m 34 weeks with terrible lower abdominal cramps like some of the worst menstrual cramps you can imagine. The pressure is intense. Back pain constantly. I'm so gasy I cannot stand myself. Feeling bloated. The pressure and cramps make me catchy breath when walking or standing. Normal? Not normal?
1395422 tn?1308016251 Everyone woman knows what a menstrual cramp is. It may come as a surprise to many that menstrual cramps have another name. The medical term for these abdominal and pelvic pains is “dysmenorrhea”. More than 50% of women are affected each month by a certain degree of dysmenorrhea, and 15% of those women are experiencing severe cramping. Isn’t this PMS?
2055843 tn?1332427915 A question for the ladies (or anyone else who can help ^^). Due to Celiac's, I had my period rather late (16), and since then, I've experienced a lot of pain that naturally comes with menstruation. However, upon talking with friends, I've yet to find anyone who has pain on the level I do. While my period lasts seven to eight days, theirs is much less.
Avatar f tn Why do the cramps hurt so bad?
Avatar n tn I'm 34 weeks and having the strongest menstrual type feeling cramps ever. My Lower back is in so much pain. It's almost unbearable. Should I be concerned? Did anybody experience this before labor?
8026978 tn?1396325900 HEY . IM 36 WEEKS & 5DAYS , HAVE ANYONE EVER EXPERIENCE MENSTRUAL LIKE CRAMPS BEFORE LABOR ?
Avatar f tn Every month I get severe menstrual cramps. I have been to the gyno a few times looking for what I can do, but seem to be at a loss. I am not allowed to use hormonal treatments to help with the pain, such as the pill, because of other health concerns and no doctor wants to risk putting me on a hormonal treatment. Though the cramping doesn't respond very well to the pain medication I've been prescribed. At times I feel like curling up in the fetal position and just crying.
Avatar n tn Im on week 31 and get the same symptoms i noticed drinking water and stretching helps alot. If not i take a nice "warm" shower (NOT hot) and it seems to relieve the pain. But they do say menstrual cramps are a sign of labor contractions but my doctor said if its not consistant its most likely false contractions or your bodies way of preparing its self for labor.
19318880 tn?1475686307 Everyday life has discomfort and pain, but when i am on my menstrual cycle it really does a number on my body. I need relief. I have trouble looseing weight its so frustrating. I am kn fertility medicine to help me and my husband get pregnant. The medicine isnt working. 170935 tn?1225371076 Sharp twinges/cramping on one side/dull cramping accross the lower abdomen are normal in early pregnancy, mine was SO bad, it felt just like menstrual cramps. Your uterus is stretching to accomodate the baby, it's called round ligament pain and it's completely normal. As long as the pain doesn't become unbareable I wouldn't worry about it, always mention things like this to your doctor though.
Avatar f tn How normal is this, having achy menstrual like cramps in lower pelvic area. It is miserable, uncomfortable and I try to stretch and do butterfly stretches and nothing seems to alleviate the ache. Is anyone else having this problem? Any pain relief suggestions? I also fold up my heating pad and put it between my legs. Grrr.
Avatar f tn You can try taking a couple Advil to help with cramping pain. I get severe menstrual cramps myself, and have been put on prescription medication. But the Advil can work just as well and does get rid of pain. It may be pain from endometriosis. Make another doctors appointment and ask about that. Good luck.
