lump

Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! The lump at the Base of the Neck that is hard could be a lymph node, a cyst, a neurofibroma or harmless collection of nerves and fibers. Since it has been there for three years and not growing, any one of these could be a possibility. However it could also be an abnormal spine curvature if you feel it that way. Please consult a physician and get this evaluated since you also have pain in that area.
I have a lump about the size of a golf ball at the Base of my skull where my spine meets my head. It's been there for about 5-6 months. I never use to get headaches but get them daily now, about the same time of day (late afternoon till morning. It starts in my Neck, then I get a very hot sensation shoot through my head into my eyes. After that (about 15 minutes) I get a shooting, throbbing, sharp pain through my head from Neck to eyes.

About 3 years ago I noticed a hard mass at the Base of my skull on the left side of my Neck. Probably 1/2" large. I hadn't noticed it before. It wasn't painful, it was very hard, fixed, and circular shaped. I had my EMT father look at it, and he passed it off saying it just felt like I had an oddly shaped skull. So, I mostly forgot about it since it wasn't bothersome, and he didn't express concern. A year or so later, I noticed the same mass.
I recently notice a big lump at the Base of my skull. I have been having steroid shots but its lower then where the bump is. It hurts and the ortho doc told me it was ust the bone protruding out. I dont believe his dignosis. Any ideas? This discussion is related to dull pain from Base of Neck up to right side of skull, with a painfull bump .
Hi, I just noticed a hump on the back of my daughters Neck at the Base. It looks like she is sort of hunch back. I plan to take her to the doctor this week. she is only 12, very tall for her age and just a little over weight in her mid section. she has not started her period yet but surely that doen't have anything to do with it. .I'm concerned.
But, yesterday I noticed a painful spot (about pea-sized) at the left Base of my skull, on the bony bump part right at the Base. It feels like I got hit there really hard with something, and now its bruised and very sore. But I didnt hit my head there and I dont see a bruise. Its very sore to touch it, and now this morning, the tender area is even bigger. It doesnt feel physically any different than the other side. I have the same bony bump on the other side.
Last night I noticed a lump on the back of my Neck, on the right side, at the Base of my skull. It's about the size of a penny and doesn't seem to be moving around or anything. It isn't real painful, only if I poke at it. I haven't had any visual issues, nor terrible headaches or nausea or anything. I had my family and a couple friends feel it and they all said it feels like a tension knot.
About two years ago, while I was putting it up, I noticed a lump on the back of my Neck. It is under my hair, almost at the hair line, on the left side of my Neck on what feels like the left muscle of the spine, at the Base of the skull. I hadn't thought of it in a while, but more recently I have been getting massive debilitating migraines. That's why I decided to ask a question here. It is about the size of a dime, maybe slightly smaller.
To answer your question, most swollen lymph nodes are due from infection and will go away on its own, however I would have the lump looked at by your doctor if it doesn't go away in a couple of weeks (just to be on the safe side). They may want to watch it for a while or try antibiotics. They may also want to draw blood and do a CBC. Good luck and I wish you well.
I have a pea size lump just below the Base of my skull on the right side. It comes and goes but is coming more often and is becoming painful and seems to be growing.. is this glands as my doctor says or should I be concerned and get another opinon?
i have recently discovered a very large and hard lump at the Base of my Neck to the center and right side. It seems to extend from the very Base of my Neck (where you swallow) down toward my clavicle. I have had Hashimoto's for about 30 years and take my meds daily. I have also been experiencing hoarseness that will not go away despite reflux treatment. I also have a frequent cough but I do have allergies and get weekly allergy injection. My last thyroid labs in January were good.
I had a severe head cold 2 weeks ago, one night I noticed a lump on my Neck, right a the Base of the Neck on, beginning of the spine. It does not hurt me. It's a soft mass, however at times it feels as if it burns inside of me. Not a pinching feeling but a burn sensation. When I get aggervated it seems to flare. Question #1 what type of doctor do I see for this? Question #2 : Is this something of much concern? Thank you.
My throat will feel tight (like when you are about to cry) and I have a headache that feels like a vise in the back of my head from ear to ear especially when I rest my head back or quickly turn it. The lump is only on the rt. side of my Neck. It is towards the back but not on the spine and is about 2 fingers below the Base of my head. I showed the lump to my orthopaedic Dr. and he thought it could be my muscles bunched up from my Neck pain.
My girlfriend developed a relatively small lump on the back of her Neck at the Base of her skull just above her hairline about 3 inches from her right ear. It developed fairly recently. I am always rubbing her back and Neck because she had been in a car accident a couple of years ago and experiences chronic back pain, and did not feel it until 2 days ago. It is not visible on the skin, is about the size of dime or nickel, and causes her pain if pressure is applied.
I have found a small painful lump at the Base of my skull on the lower right side--just above the hair line on that bone right behind the ear---seemed to come up yesterday----no lesion or break in the skin or redness--just painful and slightly squishy--I have an appointment with dermatologist in about 2 weeks---does this seem like a dermatologist issue?
I have a lump on the right side of my Neck, right at the Base of the hairline. When I noticed it about 6 months ago it was roughly the size of a dime, hard, not attached to the skin, and whenever I touched it, I got a headache. I also have general Neck stiffness, and frequent headaches. Now the lump is about the size of a silver dollar, takes up most of the right side of my Neck, and it is flat, hard, and whenever I try to turn my head, it hurts.
This could be as simple as a muscle knot - which I get all the time due to tension in the Neck. Pea size and bigger, along the spinal column at back of Neck as well as along the sides of the Neck. They hurt, and burn, etc...I have gone to a physio therapist, who has worked them out. They do come back, and will do so if you have Neck tension..(stress, computer work, not standing straight, etc...) I still get them, usually from sitting in the driver seat of my car for too long.
I've noticed a lump at the back Base of my skull on the left side. It's hard, extends from a little ways behind my L ear to the middle of my skull and bulges out like a big goose egg. I've had chronic ear problems, feel dizzy and light headed and also have quite a lot of head and Neck pain and pain in the area of the "bulge". I saw a Dr. of Otology and Neurotology who said I need surgery on my ear due to a retracted ear drum and mastoid problems.
For about two weeks, I have discovered a lump just bellow my hairline (at the Base of my skull) at the back of my head. The lump is about the size of a wall-nut. It is not painful, and very hard. It is under the skin, unlike a pimple. I went to the doctors, and he seems told me it was nothing to worry about, and that it was most likely a swollon gland. However I have never had a swollon gland in that location, and its not painful. Am I looking to much into this?
I'm a 30 yr old female with anxiety disorder and constantly under stress. Recently, I noticed a small lump on my right side, towards the bottom of my Neck (between the Base and shoulder). It is painless, moveable, and changes in size throughout the day, but it is never bigger than approximately 1 cm. It feels spongy at times, but then it gets firmer. I've also been experiencing sinus/allergy/rhinitis issues due to the season. Other than that, I have no other symptoms.
T1 at the Base of my Neck. although the doc wouldnt ever give me a xray. It is caused by a few things. One is poor posture. Slumping your Neck over is what many of us do hours on end & esp on the computer. Also maybe your pillow at night which is another of my problems. Doctors do not care, they write up meds to cover up the pain & send you off not fixing anything. I have been working on correcting this myself. No slumping over..
