Avatar n tn The AACE recommends to do the thyroid neck check in this case: Hold the mirror so that you can see the area of your neck just below the Adam's apple and right above the collarbone. This is the general location of your thyroid gland. Tip your head back, while keeping this view of your neck and thyroid area in your mirror. Take a drink of water and swallow. As you swallow, look at your neck.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been struggling with some issues for over 3-4 months. To begin with, I have several swellings near and above my adam's apple. One of them is very hard and pea sized. It is located 1 cm right to the adam's apple. I think it's on my thryoid or something but I'm not sure. It goes up and down a little bit when I swallow. The other one is above the apple and a little bit softer than the other. Another thing is, I have whiteness all over my mouth.

Avatar f tn I apologize if I have put this in the wrong section. I am unsure what to call it due to the doctors not having a name for it. For over a year now, my 10 year old daughter will get strep or a throat virus and a couple of days later as it is clearing up she develops a large lump right on top of where her adam's apple is. It ranges in size from grape size to golf ball size. She has been looked at by her pediatrician as well as an ENT with Children's Hospital.
Avatar f tn As long as I can remember if I move my neck just right or cough the center or my neck, approximately near the "Adam's apple" area feels like it moves and I can't breathe, and it don't fix itself I have to move whatever it is back into place, it's painful and very scary please help. I've talked with my primary care physician and she has no idea what/why it would do that.
Avatar f tn -Hold a mirror in front of the area of the neck where the thyroid gland is located. This area is just below the Adam's apple and right above the collarbone. (Note: The Adam's apple is not the thyroid location.) -Tip the head back. -Take a drink of water and swallow, watching the neck during the process. -Check for any bulging or protrusions. If any is detected, call a doctor for a check up.
Avatar f tn Hi, hoping to get some insight here, because I'm really afraid. It all started about three months ago with a feeling of a lump in my throat. Not an actual lump, but the feeling of one, right below where my adam's apple would be (I'm female though). I'd feel it on and off through the day, sometimes not so bad, and sometimes very noticeable. When I eat or drink anything it gets better though, the feeling of the lump goes away.
Avatar m tn Hello I am new to this forum and help i can get help to resolve my question. I have sore throat from more than 3 months and feeling like small lump on the neck below the adam's apple in the right side. It comes and goes frequently. What it may be?
Avatar m tn I am a 21 year old male, have struggled with swallowing since March 2018. Preceding March 2018, I noticed several instances where i was feeling more strain and difficulty while eating. Once with an apple, another time with cereal. Mid-March is when my condition severely deteriorated, where I was struggling to eat regular meals. In the past year my condition worsened up to the point where even liquids where a challenge by September.
Avatar n tn Such a thing is theoretically possible, but few if any escort CSWs in London have syphilis, which is rare in the UK except in gay/bi men and occasional foreign immigrants; and rarely transmitted by oral contact even if she had it. Certainly I have never seen such a case in 30+ years in a busy STD clinic, in a part of the world where syphilis is much more common than in London. For reassurance, follow through with your plan for another syphilis blood test at 6 weeks. It will be negative.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your comment. It's been 18 months now. I am still convinced that I have pinched my phrenic nerve at my lower left rib. I have been having left breathing weakness (but not in the most extremities like I don't have to use a ventilator but that nerve right down there does affect my left lower breathing a lot). I also am experiencing quite a bit of bone swellings at my neck.
Avatar n tn Hi. That lump you described can be a lymph node, which is normally found in that area, and which may be palpable in thin people. Neck nodes may also become enlarged and prominent due to a nearby infection or inflammation (example: recurrent sore throat, a chronic ear infection, or tooth decay). Another possibility is that the lump may be a thyroglossal duct cyst. This cyst usually appears in the middle of the neck above the thyroid cartilage (adam's apple).
Avatar f tn Has this condition been described as if someone had a choke hold on the front of the neck? Especially when stressed.
Avatar m tn m a 29 years old healthy male, I exercise daily and have never had any serious condition. Around 10 days ago, I noticed a small lump in the right side of the my neck, on the underside of my jaw above my adam's apple. I believe it's actually a lymph node, but I can't tell for sure. A few days ago, it was noticeably larger than it is now. Right now, I'd say its size is 3 or 4 mm, while a couple of days ago was 6 or 7 mm.
Avatar f tn Thank you Dr. Santos, Do you think the symptoms of my throat and my glands, and the pain that radiates in different parts of my neck are related? It seems that they should be, the "lump in throat" feeling started first, for about a week, and then the gland hurt in my neck, and then that stopped and traveled up to just below my ear, and then went over to just below my ear on the other side...
Avatar m tn I went to an ENT specialist last week and he had a feel about and found a lump in my neck and said it was normal sized and possibly being pushed up by a muscle, it feels the same size as that. Also if the ent had any concerns am sure he might of felt them when he had a check.

Avatar f tn i have a movable lump in my cheek on left side right above jaw line.
Avatar f tn Level three indicates the position of the lymph nodes. In your case they are near the area where a man's " adam's apple" would be. ( More or less ) Unless you meant "stage" and not level. If it says stage, that means how far along in a disease you are, or how long you've had the problem. They are saying that the gland is measuring 1.2 cm whereas a normal size is up to 1 cm.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am having what looks like a slightly larger appearance of a "heart-like strip" below my adam's apple. I can feel a mile (nearly non-existent) ache always from that area. My doctor tells me it is my thyroid. It looks like it is mildly swelled up, and has been there for 4-5 days. A few weeks ago, I had a wisdom tooth extracted, and had swelling and slight pain in the surgical site areas.
