Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain orthotics

knee-pain

Avatar f tn I wear orthotics in my cross trainers for exercising (I have low arches, that were causing knee pain). I wore them for about a year, and then I stopped exercising for about a year. I started exercising again, and at first the orthotics felt ok, the arch felt a little high, but after some jumping exercising I did one day, my ankles hurt. I'm not heavy, and I'm only 35. The pain is in the inner part of the ankles, toward the Achilles tendon.
Avatar f tn I suffer from chronic knee pain. I am 16 years old (nearly 17) I have tried lots of things which are physiotherapy, exercise, ice, been visiting an exercise physiologist, visited a podiatrist and received orthotics. Found out that these orthotics didn't work, so got new orthotics. However I still get chronic knee pain. Currently I would say that it is 7.5/10. I am sick of this. hat can i do?
Avatar m tn I would suggest you to wear proper foot wear and discuss with your orthopedician for use of braces, knee sleeves, arch supports and custom orthotics if these will help you. You can have arthritis at young age and when the joint cartilage is lost then you would need total knee replacement. Take care!
Avatar f tn I had surgery on my leg in dec. cuz I had twisted my knee late last summer and by oct part of my foot was numb but the tingling was from the side of my knee down to my whole foot. went to an ortho doc that sed it was my back (i have DDD) so had injection, "this will help with the back pain", told him I don't have any back pain, my leg is tingling and my feet hurt all the time and the top of my left foot is numb.
1308443 tn?1302693321 m very flat footed. MRIs and blood work is normal. This weekend my right knee began to have pain at the top of my knee cap. It feels like it is stuck on the pop. I can still get my knee to pop but it still feels like it is stuck on another pop. Usually my knees only hurt on the bottom or on the sides but never on the top. What is this? I know that my knee can't get stuck on air but that's what it feels like. What is going on and how do I get it to stop?
Avatar n tn Normally, orthotics can decrease pain, not only in the foot, but in other parts of the body such as the knee, hip and lower back. Without physical examination,it's hard to give you a more accurate advice. But, I still think that stenosis is key point of your husband's leg problem.. Maybe see another doctor for second opinion? Take care!
314554 tn?1337454119 s Neuromas on both of my feet about year ago. He made my orthotics and I wear ShockDoctor orthotics in some of my other shoes. At one time, I had several knee and tibia "injuries" that were biomechanical in nature from overtraining on the stairmaster and the occasional use/misuse of sports performance & pain meds (no longer use).
Avatar f tn After my knee surgery I was still having pain. I told my physio that maybe orthotics would help lift my leg and help. Guess what? They worked! Only in summer when I walk barefoot for weeks do I get the pain again. So I tend to wear them all year round. Feels funny when I wear evening shoes and no orthotics! But they really do help knee pain. Maybe you could try these things? Cheers!
Avatar f tn After breaking my femur,I went through a bunch of surgeries. My right leg ended up being shorter than my left. At first,it didn't bother me but then I started to get a lot of pain in my right heel and left hip. A trip to the orthotics/prosthetics office showed that my right leg was an inch shorter than my left. They built a shoe with the added inch and the pain went away within a day. Hope this helps.
1308443 tn?1302693321 They said I had flat feet and gave me orthotics. The second orthopedic specialist said I had adolescent anterior knee pain and there was nothing he could do for me. A few weeks ago I went to the rheumatologist and he diagnosed me with bursitis. He started me on some anti-inflamitories but I am still having lots of swelling and tons of pain. Next time I go in he wants to drain my knees and inject some cortisone. Is the swelling likely to come back and will the pain come back?
Avatar f tn I already have orthotics which may also help me. I do wear the orthotics with a stability shoe (for mild overpronation), is this over doing it? I'm also wondering if this combo could be a factor? It seems this is a somewhat early stage that I'm catching it. Does it seem like this is something I might be able to treat and still run? What has been your experience?
Avatar f tn I have had mild osteoarthritis in my right hand, of and on. Now I have knee pain, both knees, elbow pain, foot pain (orthotics (4 diff pairs) haven't helped). Not severe enough to take meds. Have been sleeping on a magnetic mat for 3 years. Doesn't seem to help. Have been going to osteopath, masseur, acupuncturist, nutritionist (treating inflammation). No real relief. Other issue (related?) is poor blood circulation (circulatory disorder). Not overweight (120lbs at 5'4.
1308443 tn?1302693321 I'm a 15 year old girl and when I was 13 I began to have knee problems. I had X-rays blood tests and an MRI. I went to 2 orthopedic surgeons and physical therapy. During pt they had no idea what was wrong with my knees. I was given orthotics and told my toes turned out. I went for about 6 months with no improvement. That's when we saw the second ortho. He told me I had chondromalacia patella. That was about a year ago. My knees have gotten much worse since then.
888841 tn?1242516603 Hello Toni, Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your knee pain. You are so young to have knee pain. I am far from an expert but the first thing that comes to mind in your situation is a Meniscus Tear. Meniscal tears are among the most common of knee injuries. They can occur without an actual "injury" to the knee. A simple turn or movement can cause them. They can occur at any age.
Avatar m tn Try to go for a post diagnostic scan. If everything is alright continue your physiotherapy and with time you will gain strength and functions. If there is a defect may be you would need another procedure for reduction. Take care!
1308443 tn?1302693321 I'm 16 and for 2 years I have worn the same orthotics because I have flat feet. When I walk my feet roll in and they point out really bad. Last Monday I didn't wear my orthotics because I wore sandals. I can usually go a day without them but by 2 right foot hurt really bad. So I put in my orthotics because that has always helped before but this time it didn't. It is hurting worse now. The pain is on the bottom of my foot right in my arch.
1666982 tn?1445198395 When I was 14 I went to a Orthopedist to have him help with my knee pain. He wanted me to have shoes made to help with the problem, but did not have the money to get corrective shoes. I now have Osteoarthritis in both knees. I think it would have helped to get them because now I have a lot of arthritis pain in my low back, hips and knees. My orthotics I have now help some.
Avatar n tn Podiatrist feels ankle pain is attributed to compensation from the pain of the Plantar Fasciitis. I wear prescribed orthotics. The pain in the ankle area is horrendous when I'm working. With burning and sharp pain waves. I've tried forcibly walking with my foot straight, and my foot and leg feel as though I'm trying walk pigeon toed and the pain increases. Occasionally I will feel popping as though something is shifting.
Avatar f tn The decision of conservative treatment is taken by an Orthopedician after taking into consideration your age and the amount of physical activity you are involved. Treatment is by below knee walking plaster cast for 3 weeks for Jones and 4 weeks for other kinds of non displaced fractures of your metatarsals. For displaced fractures you may need manipulation and immobilisation in plaster cast. As you have passed 8 weeks with no further healing you can explore options for surgical repair.
Avatar m tn First a history. I am in my mid-30s. I have been wearing custom orthotics from a podiatrist for 15 years. For about the first 6-7 years I wore the same orthotics. They were hard. They worked. I could only wear them for about 3-4 hours at a time with out pain. So I would take them out. But they shaped my foot enough to function. I used to be on my feet all day for work. By about early 2000s I started seeing limitations on how much I could be on my feet.
Avatar f tn Perhaps I do need to go and revisit my podiatrist for some further advice on my footwear and orthotics. I probably need some custom shoes to fit my orthotics properly and give me support....
Avatar m tn In early 2000, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in California. But none of the non-surgical treatments worked; and one symptom I never had was the shooting pain when putting my foot down on waking up. After living with it for a long time, I wore custom orthotics for about nine months in 2013. This seems to have "changed" the nature of the pain, creating "new" and intense pain in the posterior heel, and causing strain to the achilles area.
Avatar n tn One morning I awoke and upon standing felt a moderately sharp pain under my 5th met head. It also felt like there was something bumpy under the foot. Pain continued to worsen until I could only walk a short distance. MRI showed nothing and the pod put me in a non-weightbearing splint for 4 weeks. The pain was gone and I slowly progressed to walking 1200 steps, riding the bike, and short periods on the eliptical. Then the pain came back and got progressively worse over a 30 day period.
Avatar f tn Personally, this did not work for me, because it threw off the way I walked, which in turn caused pain in my knee, hip and lower back. The next time around, I insisted on an articulated brace. The doc wasn't happy, but I stood firm because I knew what would work best for me. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn For several months now I have had progressive pain on my left foot on the medial side just before the arch. The pain is worse when I walk, but also occurs when i move it just right, put pressure on the ball of my foot, or even if one of the kids puts pressure on my lap when my feet are on the floor. Walking up or down stairs hurts as well. The pain can either be a dull ache along the side of my foot (not on the bottom) or a shooting pain that goes across the top of my foot (near my leg).
Avatar m tn Long story short, I have developed bilateral pain in the feet at the base of the fifth metatarsal, the Achilles tendons, and at the back of the knees. Each pain is brought on by exercise, starts on the left side and eventually appears on the right side as well. I have now seen two orthodepics, a podiatrist and went to physical therapy. Physical therapy did nothing but agitate the pain.
Avatar n tn Hi Mandy and Kevin, My name is David Sullivan I am 24 years old and began having constant pain in my feet, toes and ankles when I was 21. After two years of physio, orthotics, acupuncture and seeing ostiopaths, I began to also get pain in my elbow and knees. I have been tested for RA, lupus and gout. All have been negative. My doctor has had me on a trial perscription of pms-meloxicam, having already tried celebrex and naproxin.
973741 tn?1342342773 I was prescribed an Orthopedic shoes (not custom made) and orthotics and the time between my flare-ups have gotten longer. Last flare-up was 6 years ago. Those shoes and orthotics keep me pain free. I can hike, talk my long walks and do my other sports without pain. It's always best to seek the advise of your Podiatrist or Foot/Ankle Specialist. Some only need better supporting shoes and orthotics and some need a bit more=moi.
