Knee cap keeps dislocating

Common Questions and Answers about Knee cap keeps dislocating

knee

Avatar m tn Hi Joedev Have you ever dislocated or otherwise injured your knee? There is a possibility that it is either your knee cap "sublucating" (partially dislocating) or damage to your cartlidge. When the "lock" occurs, how do you get it to "unlock" and do you get the sensation of something "moving back into place"?

I have what they call "bilateral patella-alta", meaning both my kneecaps sit too high up, so you can imagine how easy it is for me to dislocate them. Due to the awkward position, I can also only wear knee gaurds for a limited time or risk "Patellar compression syndrome".
Avatar f tn I have a question. I had a knee scope (to clean out scarr tissue underneath knee cap) on 3-26-2012 I only took a week off of work & started PT 9 days after surgery. I am walking better & the bending is getting easier. My question is (my PT guy could not answer) why do I still have fluid on the top of my knee (left side) if the holes are at the bottom sides of the knee cap.
Avatar m tn Another possibility is Chondromalacia patella in which the knee cap keeps rubbing against the underlying cartilage of femur (corrected by braces, taping, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, physiotherapy or surgery). This is a likely causein your case, though a meniscal injury is also a possibility given the past history of meniscoplasty. Having said this, at times the noise has no pathology behind it. This needs an evaluation by either an orthopedics specialist or by a sports injury specialist.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Gross, I had a total knee replacement 1 year ago for severe arthritis. The pain is still there and I can't walk right, also my knee cap keeps going out and I fall or almost fall. My Ortho gave me a brace to wear and PT to go to, to streng. then muscles around the knee. It hasn't helped. My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? Is that a norm? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas why this is happening.
670987 tn?1284498786 Hey everyone, I am pregnant with my third child (about 17 weeks) with this pregnancy it has been one thing after another. First of all I have headaches everyday, now for about the last 5 hours or so, I've had a constant throbbing pain in my knee cap on my left leg. There is a bruised colored knot on the left side but that isn't where the pain is. The pain is around the bottom of the knee cap itself. I've tried a heating pad, ice, tylenol, etc. Not helping.
Avatar f tn This doesnt feel half as supportive as my knee keeps moving in the splint as i cant keep it straight as my knee keeps swelling up alot. I'm also getting a lot of knee and leg pain aswell as knee spasms and pins and needles. I'm worried i should still be in a cast as the specialist was so adament about it. Should i be worried and ask for another opinion?? Im still waiting for another hospital appointment.
Avatar f tn My knees crack every time I stand up. But the real problem is with my right knee. Anywhere from 1-3 times a year my knee will pop out of place. Not sure if it's dislocating or subluxating. Essentially, my patella feels like it's sliding off to the side (lateral) and only returns to its normal position if I straighten my knee or wait a few minutes for it to return by itself. The pain is terrible.
Avatar m tn s just in behind my knee cap on the right side. It cracks every time when I straighten my knee especially when I'm trying to contract it with force. My knee has also been swollen and stiff ever since surgery, and is noticeably more so than my right normal knee. The swelling really inflames when I walk around to class during the day and makes me limp if it's especially bad. When I bike though, it seems that the swelling possibly decreases, and all the stiffness goes away.
Avatar m tn have a knot on knee cap when to doc. 1974 said it was like munchhousen something and not the one for women doc.
Avatar n tn It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon. What is now called patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) has also been called runner's knee, anterior knee pain, or chondromalacia of the patella.
Avatar f tn Pain, wobbly knee and cracking/popping sound can be due to ACL tears/injury, meniscal tear and injury or due to patellar injury or Chondromalacia patella in which the knee cap keeps rubbing against the underlying cartilage of femur. You may need a MRI to reach a diagnosis. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.

Avatar m tn Last wk I was playing basketball and when I came down from jumping I had a real sharp pain in my knee and could not continue. Around the top of my knee cap is tender and hurts and when I put pressure on my knee getting out the car or anything I get sharp tack like pains under my knee cap and sometimes on the side of my knee and it aches a little, I have really slight swelling but I am able to walk. What do you think it is and what should I do?
Avatar f tn When I was a freshman in highschool I had seen a Doctor about my knee problem, and was tolded that my knee caps were making new knee jionts by themselves. They had done surgery on my right knee. I was wondering what the medical name was for this type of knee problem.
Avatar n tn Prepatellar bursitis, patellar subluxation, knee cap dislocation all can lead to pain directly over the knee cap.Rest, antiinflammatory medications, application of ice to the knee all are very important for reducing the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or are severe it is best to see an orthopaedician.I hope it helps. Best luck and kind regards!
Avatar m tn x-rays show obvious knee cap deteriation ( less than 50 % of the other knee in size ) and an old MRI report said slight sublexation- I have two questions untill I get a different referral from my PCP ( although the doc stated the obvious about the knee cap he did not even bother to allow me to show him what happens when I bend my knee and it wobbles and crunchs and did not even offer a brace solution to my falls ) 1.
Avatar m tn Is the pain under your knee cap or tendon? From what you are saying it sounds like your saying under your knee cap. You could have patellofemoral syndrome; very common for cyclists (read your bio). Try this website. http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_patellod_sma.
Avatar f tn But no use, then had advised me to wear knee cap for few days. I was feeling better with knee cap. I removed it after 25 days, it was little better for 2 days, then again the pain is back. After few days, went to orthopedic, he said no problems and advised me to do some exercises. Then also no use. I have still have the pain in my knee and following parts....couldn't talk for more than 10 mins. Could you please advise me how to solve this and become normal.
6763424 tn?1426255108 Ive did the research if it keep getting bad then I'll have to have a c section because you can't have her vaginally I'm saying my pelvic keeps dislocating and popping back in I'm just worried because my daughter head in down there and I don't want to harm her. I talked to a nurse and she said it shouldn't be doing this continuously. Having my bones dislocate hurts more than anything and then I start cramping.
Avatar n tn t remember which) are too weak (due to the fact that my knee are still growing) to keep the knee cap from sliding over to far and causing inflammation and swelling in the knee. So, it would be great if someone knows what is wrong and what it is called. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed w/a Bakers cyst several years ago via kneww MRI. I also have severe osteoarthritis in both knees and just about every place else it can be on a human being and I'm only 60. I've had osteoarthritis since I was diagnosed at age 27. AS far as the Bakers Cyst goes, I saw nothing at all that looked different behind that knee but I had a great deal of pain especially when I extended my leg. Then, it went away.
Avatar f tn Whenever I touch it or bruxh it against something I get a bad pain in the side of my knee. Seems odd that an injury on the front of the knee cap and cause such pain on the side. Looking for any info, please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn my daughter who is 11 broke her knee cap snapped off one of the minscus ligaments right at the knee cap and the cartilage that covers the knee was torn..she wasn't doing anything except standing when this happened..she recently had surgery on Nov 30Th to repair it.her orthopedic surgeon said that with the repair he is not optimistic about the knee cap staying in place due to bone shifting and as well as tissue degenerating..
Avatar n tn child with a small pebbles size bump under the skin on the knee cap area. It is firm, freely moveable, regular borders, and very tender to touch. When I say freely moveable I can actually move it all around her knee cap. I moved it down so far that it disappeared for a few seconds before it resurfaced. I thought it may be a piece of chipped bone but I believe it is to smooth for that. Her knee cap doesn't seem tender only the nodule.
293157 tn?1285873439 I have OA in my left knee, so this might help. prior to what's below, my left knee felt normal About 3 years ago, I stepped out of my shower and didn't have my full weight on it when I heard/felt a loud POP. I applied RICE (rest it, ice it, etc) immediately and should of called my doctor (I called him a week later). my knee cap could move 1/2" sideways, had muscle spasms, my knee swelled and couldn't move it....and it hurt badly but not the worse I've felt.
Avatar f tn This has probably be asked about a billion times but I give it a shot. I'm a 31 year old male I'm in great shape. I have a spot on my left knee if I bend my knee and knead on it it's a sharp shooting electric like pain on the outside of the left knee almost dead even with the top outside corner of my knee cap.
