Is lexapro weight neutral

Common Questions and Answers about Is lexapro weight neutral

lexapro

Avatar f tn Same with weight loss, some folks eat when anxious or depressed and when they feel better, that compulsion is less and they lose weight. This is part of the weight loss and weight gain that you see with antidepressants. And why any same antidepressant can cause a different weight reaction (gain, loss or neutral) in different people who take it. However, there are also people that do not change their eating patterns at all that gain weight and it can only be assumed it is from the drug.
Avatar f tn I have been on celexa for many years and found it to be weight neutral and I have never had a problem losing weight either
Avatar f tn I took Cymbalta for two years and I found it to be weight neutral - no weight gain. Your weight problems are more likely because of your thyroid than Cymbalta.
415867 tn?1323365503 Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar. Newer drugs, such as serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), don’t appear to have weight gain as a side effect. In fact, Meridia, a weight-loss drug, is an SNRI. Another SNRI, Effexor, has no weight-loss properties, but it is an antidepressant.
Avatar f tn The antipsychotic Geodone (Zeldox for you Canadia folks) is weight neutral. I do believe lamotrigine is weight neutral - or very close to it. Ziprexa will make you gain weight just looking at the pills. Topomax is sometimes prescribed for weight loss but it has a bigger side effect profile than many drugs. It is often referred to as Dopomax because of the cognitive side effect. I know some though that love this drug, and it is useful for migraine headaches. I am no expert.
Avatar f tn Do you take a medication that is weight neutral or are you looking for one Babytike?
Avatar f tn I have recently been prescribed Cipralex (Lexapro) and was wondering if anyone could tell me how effective this medication is in treating depression/anxiety. Have you found it helpful and has it caused side effects such as weight gain and insomnia? I've heard it's a weight neutral antidepressant but the label says weight gain is one of the most frequent side effects.
Avatar f tn All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
Avatar m tn Yes, this is common, and antidepressants aren't usually recommended for someone your age because your brain is still developing. I would ask, how serious is the problem, have you tried therapy or did you just turn to medication or a quick way out? Because there really isn't one. As for this med, usually the dose for depression is 20mg, but any drug can have side effects and people have very different experiences on them.
Avatar f tn Hi there. I'm in the same boat you are. I have anxiety/panic disorder and was on Lexapro for about 10 years before it pooped out. I felt it worked very well with little side effects. Since then I've been having trouble getting the anxiety back under control. I tried Effexor for 6 weeks. Too stimulating, gave me tremors. I have now been on Zoloft for 7 weeks. I find this one to be stimulating as well. I still have tremors and now have acne which I have never had in my life.
Avatar f tn If your problem is just anxiety I would try something else first. I find Zoloft to be a bit stimulating for me. Lexapro was very neutral and Paxil was very sedating. But we are each different so you may like Prozac.
Avatar f tn First of all, it sounds like you need some blood tests and likely a med change, stat. Abilify is weight neutral for most people, but it can cause metabolic syndrome. Your blood pressure rise and weight gain are bad signs, and you should at the very least get your lipids and sugars checked, and probably your thyroid for good measure. Also, SSRIs have a chance of causing weight gain, and they're well known to destabilize people with bipolar.
Avatar f tn I am trying to find a good medication that does NOT cause weight gain. Please do not tell me SSRI do not cause weight gain. I was on Zoloft for many years & it caused weight gain. Everytime I asked my doctor if it could be the medicine he said "No", so I tried & tried to get the 30 lbs off I had put on from it. I ate a good diet & worked out all the time.. NOTHING. I searched online & found out that many people had this complaint.
Avatar f tn What were the Lexapro side effects you were trying to avoid? If they were sexual or weight gain, the way wellbutrin is used is to add a small dose to the Lexapro, not switch, as wellbutrin isn't generally friendly to people with primary anxiety.
Avatar m tn My big question is when are the doctors going to stop telling everyone that they do not gain weight on antidepressants, I have been on lexapro now for 2 yrs, and have gained 25 lbs, I watch what I eat exercise, dance, etc... and the weight will NOT come off. My doctor tells me well you are are at the age of premenopause and at that age, that you are going to gain weight, well I am getting tired of hearing it.
Avatar f tn Lamictal is in a completely different drug class than Abilify, and tends to be very weight neutral. All of the atypical antipsychotics, like Abilify, can cause weight gain, although some are less likely to. That drug class is known for it. Lamictal is an anticonvulsant, and a lot of those (except for depakote) are weight neutral. I don't think you have anything to worry about in the weight department. Make sure to take your Lamictal exactly as prescribed.
616534 tn?1233236497 In my experience Lexapro can make you gain weight that is what my said when he put me on Lexapro. However I was suffering form an eating disorder so I needed to put on weight. My doctor didn't want to put me on any medication that would make me gain weight because I would probably stop taking it and it would not aid in my recovery.
Avatar n tn I would suggest you talk to your doctor about Lexapro...it is a very effective medication for depression...but if it not work on you for some reason, there are many others, including Cymbalta.
1781134 tn?1315774324 Hi Prozac for me has been great after switching to it from Effexor the only problem I have had with it is the weight gain which after now being on Prozac for 12months is getting to me so going to go and see my doctor and see what he can do.
Avatar f tn Everyone is differant Shelly, while weight gain is a side effect of Lexapro it does not mean that You're going to gain weight. It is a side effect because it has happened for some people. Just keep eating healthy and getting exercise and You should be fine. Weight gain can be scary for most females however it is really good that You're on this medication and on the road to recovery. You need to wait it out and see unfortunately, people are too differant.
233622 tn?1279334905 I have not had any side-effects from it and no weight gain. Lexapro is not only an anti-depressant but also has a component in it that helps with anxiety. I have found it to be a good drug and when I wanted to go off ot it, it was easy. I think you will do just fine. It does have the least side-effects it seems that alot of other anti-depressants.
Avatar n tn Any you think this is due to Lexapro?? Hard to believe, since I have been on several SSRI's and none of them caused weight gain. I'm on Lexapro now and experienced no weight gain. Have you talked to your prescribing doctor about this? The weight gain could also be caused by other things such as hypothyroidism or DEPRESSION. 10 mg is the smallest dose of Lexapro, tapering off would be like maybe cutting a pill in half but I don't advise it.
Avatar f tn I take Lexapro and couldn't lose weight, but was assured that it wasn't the Lexapro, even though I watched what I ate and walked 6 miles a day. I changed what I did eat, and lost 50 pounds and have kept it off for 2 years while still on Lexapro. It may not be the amount you're eating but the foods you're eating. I went to healthier foods. You're on a low dose, so I doubt that it's the Lexapro.
771466 tn?1235156638 I dont weight myself regularly but I knew I had gained ALOT of weight but geeze I weight 182.2. WTF???? When my doc asked me if I thought the weight gained correlated with when I started the lex, I thought and said no. Theres no way because I have always been told that Lexapro did NOT cause weight gain. Anywho, I am 5'10 and usually weight around 150. Well then I began to think on the ride home about the last year and a half.
Avatar f tn m on Celexa now but am wondering if maybe Lexapro would be better since anxiety is my biggest concern. Has anyone had suggest with Lexapro. Also does Lexapro cause weight gain like Celexa?
20790871 tn?1507161421 4% body fat), my training intensified, and I started two medications for depression (Lexapro and Wellbutrin). I gained the weight back after I quit competitive running, but the hair thinning persists. Another thing to note, I have never been an illness-prone person, but lately I have been getting sick a lot and have had several infections over the past few months.
