Common Questions and Answers about Infection at time of surgery

infection

Avatar m tn s time, and i could go back to exercising and wight lifting if i wanted to, is that likely in that span of time? Is there any risk apart from infection that could further damage anything to do with the spine? would my pain and weakness in arms and shoulders go away immediately after surgery? I really appreciate your time and valuable advise, thanks!
Avatar f tn t think I experienced an infection but it is taking a long time for my incision to completely heal. What kind of surgery did u have and what kind of infection are you experiencing?
Avatar m tn Was that He stated besides saying that I was Ok and looked at me as if I were crazy And some sort of misfit. He stated that the size of the herniation in most people goes away with age and that the older I get the better I will be. Has anyone here ever been told that? I was dx back in 2008 and have read just about everything. And nowhere have I ever heard of that. All I know is that I am going down hill pretty fast.
1570782 tn?1296689507 Hey Everyone! I'm new to this whole forum thing, but I thought I'd give it a try. I was just wondering for those of you who've had surgery, how long your recovery has been? I just recently had the surgery and I'm having a hard time dealing with the after math. I am here to find some friends to talk to who are going through the same thing as me. Please feel free to talk with me anytime.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your prompt reply, It was very helpfull. I am still worried though about the length of time im waiting for surgery. It has been about 2 months since diagnosis & it mabye another 2 months before my pre;op assesment, after that who knows? I dont know how long Ican put up with the pain.Im sorry to ask for more of your time but would be greatful for any advice you can offer. very many thanks to you for your help so far.
Avatar m tn Polishing away basically only works well at the time of surgery not second surgery. You have not said what the vision is in your other eye and whether it needs glasses and if so what is the glasses prescription. That is important. Will you provide?
Avatar n tn He visited his eye doctor post-surgery and also had another visit to him in August-08 at which time the doctor told him he still has inflammation behind his eye. He is taking Maxidex 0.1% dexamethasone and it doesn't help him. We don't know what to do now or where to turn to because he still has this problem. We are looking for any advice you may be able to provide us to make his inflammation and headaches go away and for his eye to be back to normal.
539989 tn?1218832080 pierced my lung and a chest tube had to be inserted. I still have alot of pain from where the chest tube was and I have some numbness on the left side of my back, side and arm. My chest is still extremely tender from where my pacemaker was placed. I am wondering if this is all normal. My pacemaker scar is very bad looking as well. I have had double bi-pass surgery and even that scar looked better than this one does. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I would not be so quick to have surgery. Once you have surgery the structure and function of your spine will never be the same. Surgery is always a good surgeons last choice and you are very young. However if it a must than I agree with Sandee. Make sure your surgeon is very experienced in the specific surgical procedure that you require. And always get a second opinion. Good luck to you. Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates.
Avatar n tn I am a 27yr old single mother of 1 and am at a total loss. I recently (May22nd) had a surgery to remove endometriosis. While preforming the surgery my doc also found a cyst on my left ovary and removed that. Also while I was in surgery I had a IUD put in. 1 week after my surgery I was in extreme pain and went into the ER for severe cramping. They ran cat scans on me and found nothing, as far as infections or cysts. I was given pain meds and sent home.
Avatar f tn I get the pressure in the middle of the back of my head...in fact, that's how I got diagnosed originally. It got worse and became a daily thing and I was afraid I had a brain tumor or something! I couldn't get in to my GP and finally went to the ER and said, "You're going to think I am nuts but I think there is something wrong with my brain!" Boy was I surprised when they did the MRI and told me, "Uh, yeah. There IS something wrong with your brain." Whoa!
Avatar f tn Upset because this could have been avoided with regular follow up visits with our vet if we would have been advised from the doctors at Penn. Unfortunately they failed to provide me with test results of bladder stones the first time. Frustrated because the financial strain it is causing especially at this time of year. Called and emailed their customer service manager but no response.
Avatar f tn Hi, Capsule contracture, is indeed the most common complication of breast augmentation surgery. It can happen at any time, but seems to be more common in the first several months after surgery. The cause for capsule contracture are still not clear. A higher risk of occurs if there is transient germ contamination, subglandular placement, infection, seroma, hematoma, and smoking. http://www.justbreastimplants.com/risks/capsule-contracture.
Avatar f tn GEEEZ you guys are having a rough go. Lulu didn't realize that you had the surgery although I knew it was coming up just lost track of time. I hope you guys start feeling better. I was on Cipro for 2 bacterial and a yeast infection after my last surgery. It took a good two weeks after the catheter was removed 11 days post op to start feeling better.
15442 tn?1316518389 This would be interesting as a poll or quick response from people and get a tally as to their age at diagnosis. I know there are others on the forum diagnosed around your age. I could have easily have gotten to 60 (if I didn't have a good neuro), but I was 46 at the time of my diagnosis. I too, had symptoms for years before this and can relate to what you have been through. Yes, it is smokin' hot here in the U.S.--especially down south.
Avatar f tn Treatment of this condition needs to be individualized to the specific situation, after assessment of the extent of the problem. Goals of treatment would be to try to prevent further swelling, measures to relieve pain and discomfort, and prevent further problems such as skin breakdown and infection. You may want to check in your area if there is a specialist who works with persons with lymphedema, who may be able to offer other suggestions for your individual situation.
457721 tn?1256640798 I developed a post surgical staph infection which was only discovered due to re-injury of the disc. I ended up having ANOTHER surgery in which they repaired the re-herniation, cleaned out more fragments, and cleaned out the infection. I spent a week in the hospital on a Morpine drip along with SOMA and 2 Percocet 7.5 every 6 hours AND a 25 mg Fentanyl patch. I still wasn't getting total pain relief. However, when I left the hospital...I was released to take 2 7.5 Percocet and SOMA...
