Index finger and thumb twitching

Common Questions and Answers about Index finger and thumb twitching

finger

Hi, I have been having painless twitching between my thumb and index finger for over 30 days. I can see it clearly under the skin. I am very concerned. I have convinced myself I have ALS. I do not think I am experiencing muscle weakness. My right hand for years has been a little sore that does seem to getting worse. For example, was sore while tying my son's skates at hockey.
My right thumb and index finger have been twitching lately. There is no pain involved and it's my right hand only. What could be causing this?
I have some issues with my neck and the other day my right pointer finger twitched uncontrollingly all that day. Its stopped now but I've never had my fingers twitch like this before. Related? Who knows, keep me posted.
The twitches do not seem to be rhythmic however the amount of times the finger contracts and how fast varies. The index finger will twitch and then stay tight against my middle finger and then will jump out towards my thumb. About one - two beats per second. Sometimes I can feel small pulses as it is pressed against my middle finger. The index finger seems to contract after I have used my left hand.
There is no pain when it happens and it will happen any time of the day and twitch uncontrolably for anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour. It seems to be twitching inbetween my thumb and index finger in that groove and on the inside of my thumb. What could be causing this?
Hi how are you I was wondering if you could help me out a bit im 18 and i get started getting a pulsating twiching like feeling and I can see it move up and down the nerve in my left hand between my thumb and index finger. I was wondering what could be the cause and could it be high sugar levels as I was diagnosed as insulin resistant at 15 and kinda went off my diet in the past few months. Thnx I hope its not ALS cause that would be devastating .
I am also experiencing twitching and tremors. Also an electric jolt is a good way to describe it. It starts between my shoulder blades and shoots down my left arm.
Since then both arms and hands have been feeling weak and I have had some involuntary twitching in my right thumb. Occasionally my legs feel a little weak. I am type 1 diabetic for 28 years and have mild peripheral nueropathy. Do you think that this is the cause of my weird sympyoms. I dont want to go to the docs unless I really need to.
My index finger and my thumb on my left hand are involuntarily twitching. It is not rhythmic, but it is continuous. It has been going on for over an hour now. This is the first time that I have noted this. I do have Arnold Chiari malformation 1. I have had the decompression surgery last year. Now the little finger has started in. It is painless. I can still move and grip, but not as strong as my right hand. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!
There are a few thin septations in the anterior aspect of the left frontal horn along the septum pellucidum. The contents are isointense to CSF on all sequences, suggestive of small simple intraventricular cysts such as arachnoid cyst. It is either bi-lobed or two directly adjacent to each other and in total measures 1 cm in AP dimension x 5mm in width. There is a small focus of high signal intensity in the forceps minor, adjacent to the frontal horn measuring 5mm.
The twitching does not happen when my hands are busy, but when my hands are just resting, my thumb and index finger jump back and forth. I thought it was maybe a sign of low vitamin levels. I began taking daily multi vitamins but the twitches have remained. I'm eating healthy and getting plenty of sleep, but the twitches are just as strong as ever. I have not thought a lot about these issues up until the last two weeks.

I noticed that a nerve next to my thumb starts to go into a spasm and when this happens, my index finger starts pulling to the right. It happens all day and night. What could be causing this to happen?
Hi, A couple of months ago my left thumb and index finger started twitching at resting position. The tremors lasted about 3 days and then stopped. Since then I've felt what can only be described as internal tremor in the same thumb. The thumb also seems heavy. Does anyone know what this might be related to? Many thanks!
I experience thumb shakes when I hold a some what sharp and small object between my thumb and then my index finger. I have had this condition for as long as I can remember probably 6 years now, what can this be, and is there a chance of it deteriorating?
Hi, 30 year old male who first noticed thumb and index finger twitching five years ago on and off. It has progressed to be constant in my left hand these days and increases with stress. I'm not overly concerned as it is progressing very slowly and isn't at the moment affecting my life. I exercise almost everyday and about every two months get a spasm in my back which until now I have put down to a slight scoliosis curvature of the spine which I have.
As the title says I've had this twitching in my thumb and index finger for the last few weeks. It rarely goes away, but I also am on the computer a lot sometimes 8 hours a day +. It's usually on my right hand, but I have felt it in my left hand a little but not very often. Should I see a doctor for this as soon as possible?
Age under 15 years -do this for 5 to 10 minutes twice a day. Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through the nose while humming like a bee. Duration : 5 to 12 times Once you are better, continue the pranayam once a day. Be patient, as the benefits will show over a period of weeks.
Twice now in the last month I have gotten a twitch between my thumb and index finger. Both times the twitching went on for hours on end. But what really bothers me is that afterwards I have had a bruise show up in the area of the twitching. Does anyone else get bruises for their episode of twitches?
I would get random muscle twitches (eye, lip, leg, thumb, index or middle finger, etc) most of my life, but recently, my left middle finger would twitch for a month. It's recently started to lay off the twitches, but it twitched a few times today. During my research on this, I am still not sure how hypot. would have anything to do with muscle twitching. I know stress is often a trigger, but I don't feel stressed despite working two jobs.
Over the past weeks I also had one in my right index finger, left index finger, left thumb, and right pinky. This has me scared of Parkinson's Disease. I don't have any pill rolling tremors and the tremor has not occurred in the same finger twice. Most of my tremors have occured at rest but I did get one while typing. I've also had twitching in other parts of my body. I've also been very stressed. I have also gotten headaches, lightheadness, and twice my vision got blurry.
However, tonight while I was holding a piece of paper in my hand with my thumb and middle finger, my middle finger just started twitching uncontrollably. It only happened when I was barely trying to grip it, when I gripped the paper tighter it went away. So over the past couple years to compensate, like if I'm holding paper, I'll just situate it in my hand without gripping it and let it sit there, or I'll grip it tight so it won't twitch.

Also, when I do the live long and prosper thing from Star Trek, my index finger begins to twitch almost uncontrollably at one point, then I will do it again and it wont (most of the time it does it). When it does do it, the intensity is different. When I lift my hands up though and extend my fingers, my fingers are steady. When I stretch my index finger though, it begins to twitch. Also, at certian positions, my fingers twitch too, but then I do the same thing, and the finger doesnt do it.
I'm 44yrs old and have had a muscle spasm very close to nonstop in my right hand inbetween the index finger and thumb for over two years. I mentioned it to my doctor about a year ago and was told that it is probably just stress related. Granted, I've been under a lot of stress in the past year and nearly as much the year before, but most of my life has been stressful. I've had MRIs done for headaches (ruled to be some sort of migraine) and there was no indication of brain issues.
My index finger stopped twitching. Can all of this twitching be related to calcium and vit B-12 as well as working out? Your thoughts and expertise would be greatly appreciated.
I have had moderate to severe twitching in my right eye, right thumb and right index finger for years and it seems to be getting worse. It never hurts but sometimes out of nowhere my thumb starts twitching and often raises about 1/4 inch without being able to stop, it lasts for about 10 minutes followed by general tingling sensation at the top of my hand extending to the elbow, same with my index finger.
