Avatar m tn Can anyone describe their experiences with Imiquimod? I am on the 3.75% cream which my doctor has told me to use every other day for a month. In the first 2 weeks, nothing happened, only just a couple days ago I noticed a very slight indication that the medication might be working, but I'm still not sure. I have about 20-30 very small warts, and notice 2 or 3 of them showing a bit of redness and drying up a bit. Still not sure if this is due to the medication.
Avatar m tn If you are using imiquimod cream to treat genital and anal warts, you will probably apply it once a day for 3 days a week (e.g., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday). Imiquimod cream should be left on the skin for 6 to 10 hours. Continue using imiquimod until all of the warts are healed, i found this on a website. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn Ive been on aldara (imiquimod) 5% for approximately 2 months now. I cant notice if im seeing any improvement with my genital warts. However, ive developed a ridiculous rash around the application site. which is extremely red and irritated. The rash looks almost like if i ran really fast and slid my knee on a rug, except its around the base of my penis. Its sometimes itchy and i feel as if at sometimes its developing a particular scab. will this redness ever go away?
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Aldara (imiquimod) to get rid of a few perianal HPV warts since cryotherapy was only making it worse. After only about 2 weeks of usage almost all symptoms of the warts were gone however I now have perianal psoriasis in its place. That is one of the side-effects of imiquimod and it mainly strikes people whom are genetically prone to having psoriasis.
Avatar m tn t going to work for me? Wondering if Podofilox or the stronger 5% Aldara cream would have been a better choice.
Avatar n tn Ive been using imiquimod for almost the full term. The area affected is between my scrotum and inner thigh crease. In the matter of a night i got redness and sores. Ive stopped using it and wash daily. It doesnt help that its right where my jeans and underwear ride. Any help in relief?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Aldara/Imiquimod cream for what was thought to be a small genital wart (turns out it is not a wart). I developed and still have these horrible small ulcer like lesions inside my labia. My entire vaginal area became swollen, red, irritated, itchy and burns. I had flu like symptoms as well. Please whatever you do, DO NOT use Aldara / imiquimod cream. Turns out it eats the mucosal lining of any area, and can cause an immune system disease. http://www.doctorsaredangerous.
Avatar m tn The areas that have crusted and flaked are red and raw. Do i continue putting the aldara on those regions or should i stop? The cream does not bother me and the rawness is by no means unbearable or even that aggravating. I just genuinely don't know when enough is enough. 3. I have read that the aldara can cause permanent skin discoloration and i was wondering if there is any way i can mitigate the chances of that happening by applying vitamin E oil or neosporin to the affected area.
Avatar m tn t worry, I used to have warts on my butts, and my doctor gave me Aldara cream 5% (imiquimod) and it went away within two weeks. Please ask you doctor for a prescription.
1306047 tn?1333243591 Greetings, I don't come around here much any more, but two/three years ago I was quite active on this forum. Recently I may have had another outbreak after 2 1/2 years without. Doctor gave me Aldara. Thought I'd pass my thoughts along. I've had warts burned off with nitrogen and cauterized as well. Aldara doesn't seem to be an alternative to me. First, you have to apply three nights a week for three months.
1094370 tn?1317134825 Hi! Sorry to hear about this. I'm 32 and have had my fair share of basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. I think the cream you are referring to is Imiquimod/Aldara? It is essentially a topical chemo. Generally if it scabs it means it's working. Unfortunately I haven't had great success with it and have had to have the cancer surgically removed. Not sure where you live, but I have fantastic Doctor recommendations in NYC. Let me know if you want more info.
Avatar m tn Hello I am hoping that one of you have experience or knowledge with the cream Aldara or Imiquimod. I have been using it for about 4 weeks now on anal warts and it has made them pretty much go away. But the itching and burning is EXTREME to say the least and is a minute to minute struggle every day and is ruining my life. I am wondering how long to expect this to continue after I discontinue using the cream or any suggestions for relief until then.
Avatar n tn several times and tried many treatments such as two boxes (24 sachets) of (Aldara 5% Cream) using it on MWF with no improvments. I also tried Locacid Solution and sometimes electirc burning, drinking Zinc,etc.. and there was no improvments as well.. An advice would be highly appreciated! 556286 tn?1215553880 t worry, I used to have these warts on my butts, and my doctor gave me Aldara cream 5% (imiquimod) and it went away within two weeks. Aldara is kind of expensive they're $300 for 12 tiny packets of about 4 water droplets. But they worked like miracle. Please ask you doctor for a prescription.
Avatar m tn you have to actually keep using it for 3 months - it can take that long sometimes for it to kick start the body into dealing with hpv better. you do have to use it exactly as ordered as well as be very careful where you put it . on days you don't use aldara, you can use a barrier cream like desitin to help protect the skin and help it heal. about 30% of folks get relief from hpv from taking cimetidine. worth asking your provider about since you can now buy it otc.
Avatar m tn I applied aldara (imiquimod) to the shaft of the penis in an attempt to get rid of what I presumed were penile warts. About a week after use, I developed well localised red and swollen skin on the head of the penis which then ulcertated and has been slow to heal. I have not been herpes positive before and dont think I have had recent contact with any herpes positive partners.
Avatar f tn I have genital HPV and I was treating the warts using Aldara. Applied a lot of the cream Monday to the outside of lower labia minora. Wednesday the labia was hard, swollen and really sore. Friday the swelling was reduced and in it place were 2 sore lesions located just inside the labia. I am now convinced it is herpes from looking at pictures online and reading the symptoms. I am also experiencing tingling down there too!
Avatar f tn Hello, For small warts several medications(like podophyllum resin, Podofilox (Condylox), Trichloroacetic and bichloroacetic acids, Imiquimod 5% cream and interferons) are available, which can be applied directly to the surface of the warts.Other treatment options include electrical cautery, surgical removal, Carbon dioxide laser treatment and electrodesiccation.
Avatar m tn Hello Doctor, I spent almost $250 with this urologist and in the end all he did was tell me to use Aldara cream (Imiquimod) or liquid nitrogen. He said the warts were not big enough to be burned. Sigh. Anyway, here are my questions: 1) Is this Aldara (Imiquimod) cream good? Do you recommend it? 2) Can I have sex or should I remove my warts first? What can I do to reduce to the max the probability of contagiousness? I don't want to give it to my partners.
Avatar f tn I have been using Aldara cream for two weeks now, and surprisingly my warts are gone. But I now notice that the area where the warts used to be is very red. I don't know if that is supposed to happen or not but should I continue using the cream? I don't want to kill anymore skin cells then I have to..

Avatar n tn Most HPV infections clear up entirely, even without treatment. Therefore, it is uncommon for genital warts to persist for more than a few months, and it is rare for previously resolved warts to reappear. Therefore, if your doctor believed the irregularities in your skin were due to scar tissue, that's almost certainly what is going on. My guess is that the "cream" was imiquimod (trade name Aldara). From what you say, I wouldn't have prescribed it.
Avatar n tn s a wart. It it is, imiquimod (Aldara) is not guaranteed effective. It cures about 60-70% of genital warts. So my guess is your genital bump is not a wart, and may not be abnormal. Almost everybody has irregularities of the skin, whether genital or anywhere else. I agree with your plan to see a dermatologist, but I will not advise you to ask for a biopsy or anything else. Just describe what has gone on, then let her or him evaluate it and decide what to advise.
