Aldara imiquimod side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara imiquimod side effects

Avatar n tn Ive been on aldara (imiquimod) 5% for approximately 2 months now. I cant notice if im seeing any improvement with my genital warts. However, ive developed a ridiculous rash around the application site. which is extremely red and irritated. The rash looks almost like if i ran really fast and slid my knee on a rug, except its around the base of my penis. Its sometimes itchy and i feel as if at sometimes its developing a particular scab. will this redness ever go away?
Avatar m tn Still not sure if this is due to the medication. Other than that I haven't noticed any effects or any type of side effects. Everything I read online says the areas should be very red/inflamed. Has anyone had a positive experience with Imiquimod without showing many effects? Should I just give it some more time or is it apparent that Imiquimod isn't going to work for me? Wondering if Podofilox or the stronger 5% Aldara cream would have been a better choice.
Avatar n tn While the results of these studies are promising, only a few patients have been studied and the quality of evidence is weak. Common side effects to Aldara involve skin reactions in the area where it was applied. These include redness, swelling, blisters or ulcers, skin thickening, peeling, scabbing and crusting, itching, burning, and discoloration.
Avatar f tn Hi, Aldara cream contains the active ingredient imiquimod. Imiquimod is an immune response modifier. It causes your body to produce more interferon. Interferon is a substance which your body produces naturally to help fight viruses and some skin diseases. Although the exact way that Aldara works is unknown, it is believed to be due to its effects on the immune system.
Avatar f tn How long does it take before you start seeing results? 3. How effective has this treatment been for you guys? Were there any bad side effects? Would you recommend this treatment for others? Thanks for taking the time to read this post I'm still learning to cope with having this...I'm really struggling with it and it will really help to have some answers.
Avatar f tn I was concerned I contracted genital herpes about a year ago. I developed one pimple like sore that I picked at until it became an open ulcer, but it went away. I also had red itchy swollen labia, an initial vaginal discharge, anal itching, occaisonal stabbing pain in the back of my legs. My Gyno first said I had dermatitis. However, I had been using DMSO cream which significantly reduced the symptoms by the time I saw her.
1306047 tn?1333247191 I remember you from the past on this forum. Aldara can have side effects that you mention and was never something I was going to use. I agree with freezing or burning them off. The sooner they are gone, the better.
Avatar f tn However don't ignore and still see your doctor to make sure, they should be able to do a swab and or blood testfor HSV What are the possible side effects of imiquimod topical (Aldara)? Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Avatar f tn Why wouldnt his doctor pick a more conservative commonly used method over a medication with lots of adverse side effects? Perhaps my boyfriend lying to me/maybe his derm isnt being honest with him. There are a lot of possibilities here and I simply would like your expert opinion so I know whether or not I have possibly been exposed to genital warts.
Avatar n tn After only about 2 weeks of usage almost all symptoms of the warts were gone however I now have perianal psoriasis in its place. That is one of the side-effects of imiquimod and it mainly strikes people whom are genetically prone to having psoriasis. It is known that an overactive immune system can trigger a site of psoriasis, and imiquimod invokes an immune response to have cytotoxins destroy skin cells. So now....
Avatar f tn Not being able to use Aldara doesn't much matter; don't worry about it. No treatment, including imiquimod (Aldara), is more than about 60-70% effective. In theory, Aldara might be better at preventing recurrent warts, but in the real world there is no obvious difference in cure rate or recurrence rate between Aldara and any other treatment. If one method isn't working well, trying another makes sense.
Avatar m tn 2 Therapy with cytokines is, however, parenteral and is associated with unwanted side-effects. Imiquimod (Aldara, R-837, S-26308) and resiquimod (R-848, S-28463) are members of a new group of low molecular weight compounds, the imidazoquinolinamines3 (Figure). These have been shown to have properties as immune response modifiers in vitro and in vivo, and demonstrate antiviral and anti-tumour activity via endogenous cytokine production.
Avatar n tn My main questions for you are about Aldara. I've read that some of the side effects can be quite bad, causing serious irritation to the point of ulceration in some cases. What should I expect? Also, the biopsy of one of the lesions was only taken less than a week ago and I'm still healing--the stitch has not even fallen away. So do you think I should wait until the biopsied area has fully healed? Finally, thanks for your advice on this (now dating back several weeks).
Avatar n tn personal_page_id=4797709 Her doctor is attempting to shrink this growth by periodically injecting it with a corticosteriod of some sort. The negative side effects of this treatment have caused my friend to seek an alternative treatment. I suggested that imiquimod (aldara) or retin-A might be effective, but I can't be sure as I don't have any information regarding the physiological nature of this growth.
Avatar n tn Also, among the non-surgical approaches, there have never been direct comparative studies to show whether one recommended treatment works any better than the next (podophyllin, podofilox [Condylox], imiquimod [Aldara], trichloroacetic acid [TCA], cryotherapy [freezing], electrocautery, laser cautery, etc). Thus personal opinion of providers and their own past experience determines recommendations to patients. My view and that of most STD specialists is much more like your primary MD's.
Avatar m tn Certainly the motive of FDA and govt are to fetch money by treating and no cure, peg is a noble example being expensive having big side effects low response rate yet approved. Replicor cud try getting approval from other countries apart from us. Anyways don't know much of these policies. Feeling helpless. Thanks for the infos Steff and Stephens.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with genital warts in May 2007. My dermatologist administered acid treatment and prescribed Aldara cream. Treatment took a long time, but the Aldara seemed to do the trick and the last wart I remember was around Sept 2008. I have been dating my current girlfriend since September 2009.
Avatar n tn I tried Aldara out, if you read about it, it has many negative side effects. To be honest I was first given it because I was too embarrassed to get the warts properly treated. Just but the bullet and have them electrocauterized. The procedure is painless, takes only a few minutes, and will at least have you wart free for a while. To prevent them from coming back just figure out ways to boost your immune system.
Avatar m tn The problem of delivery into the hepatocytes and possible side effects are likely to delay or kill this interesting effort to combat Hepatitis B.
Avatar f tn Immune inhalers such as Zadaxin But Myrcludex is a sort of same half fix solution as 9620 (Imiquimod) it will for sure will get once chances better to clear HBV.. but the question remains still - how long will one have to take it so liver cells regenerate completely? Will this take 1 year or more?
Avatar n tn Anyway back to the aldara, if you have insurance its like $160 for the 4 month treatment, otherwise its $1200, when you burn off all the warts, THEN apply the aldara because the aldara did not clear my warts, but after 4 months of using it, it PREVENTED them for 8 months. So basically, Im thinking about just using aldara 3 times a week for life, to prevent. Untill then I'll use compund.
Avatar m tn gov/pubmed/19338056 another way of clearing is stopping all therapies at such low hbsag, the study on tdf showed clearance of hbsag, but this is too dangerous and yet too small reposrts i think the best try is again gcmaf and hbv vaccine plus zadaxin or even better the israel hbv vaccine with imiquimod used on the area of injection but this would require to go to israel to buy it
Avatar f tn The firstone almost killed me with Pegasys, I had a horrible side effects, huge decrease of weight - 10 kilos, permanent imsomnia and enormous decrease of white blood cells, so the doctor gave me each two weeks a shot to increase white blood cells. I though I am going to die, then I found my temporary doctor who told me that the previos doctor could have killed me with those shots for white blood cells.
Avatar m tn I am also wondering if it's possible to have possible padrome symptons on side of lower body then have a lesion on the other side. I kept reading how this is virus present's it's way differently person to person. I just wanted to share my story with you guys. I am not feeling upbeat right know. Everytime I feel possitive that it could be something else, I start to think it's herpes. I am more upset how I let this brief 5-8 minute encounter accur.
