Aldara side effects treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara side effects treatment

aldara

Avatar f tn My doctor put me on Aldara, but I am having SERIOUS side effects. It says for me to put it on the area once a night before I go to bed, but I started having redness and irritation. I thought that just meant that it was working, so I was off it for a day and went back on it for 2. It happened again, so I went off it for 2 days. Then I went back on it and tried to stay on it, hoping that the cream would help somehow, and the sores just kept getting bigger.
Avatar n tn i have been recently diagnosed with HPV genital warts myself and recd same prescription. im on week 3 but ive been getting side effects like burning , swelling and new bumps. i just went back to my ob to get checked and now those bumps might be herpes on top of just being told about my hpv. all i can say is keeping using the medications, ive read that it can take up to 16 weeks before they are gone and reoccurunce is likely.
Avatar n tn I know Aldara might work for AK or warts. I know what the side effects are. I even know what the rumored horrible deathly side effects are. What do they have against prescribing it? Do they just want to charge me for the treatment over and over and over again?
Avatar m tn I've been using Aldara for over two weeks now and am experiencing absolutely no side effects at all. Now I'm not disappointed believe me, but the one and only nice thing about side effects is that they indicate that whatever you are using is not "working" per-se but that it's doing *something*. Is this normal? Also, my doctor did a pretty deep freeze of the warts before sending me home with Aldara.
Avatar f tn Yes it is and you can get blisters and sores too and flu like symtoms and accing bones, look at the handout that comes with the cream, it has an extensive list of the side effects of the cream, trust me, i got them all. Best of luck.
Avatar n tn My dr is eager to answer any questions that I have, and I like her very much, but honestly, I dont think she knows all there is to know about aldara. When I asked about side effects, she seemed very confident that the side effects were mild flu-like symptoms. She even seemed surprised to hear of the list of symptoms I asked her about. And she even said that as far as she knows, there are no sytemic side effects to using the med vaginally.
Avatar n tn I am pretty sure I have not acquired something new so I am really hoping these are just side effects of the cream. Here is a link to the post I made before seeing this one. http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Seeing as though the FDA would never approve anything that would harm you, correct? Ever read the numerous side effects listed on a package of Aldara?
Avatar n tn Why wouldnt his doctor pick a more conservative commonly used method over a medication with lots of adverse side effects? Perhaps my boyfriend lying to me/maybe his derm isnt being honest with him. There are a lot of possibilities here and I simply would like your expert opinion so I know whether or not I have possibly been exposed to genital warts.
Avatar m tn Just started a treatment of Aldara today. I always seem to have a few small genital warts on me. Does anyone know what I can expect. I am 31 and healthy in every way. I have been receiving cryotherapy for 3 years and they always come back. I was told that Aldara will help get my immune system involved in fighting the virus so I will have a better chance of losing the warts. Has anyone out there used thus treatment ?
Avatar n tn The dr gave me aldara. I have used it as directed for just over two weeks. I have had zero reaction or side effects from the cream. How do I know if its working? and if its not what would the reason be? At what point should I see another Dr.? Thanks for any info.
Avatar f tn If your skin condition reappears you need to talk to your doctor. The most common side effects with Aldara cream are skin reactions at the treatment site including: Redness Swelling A sore, blister, or ulcer Skin that becomes hard or thickened Skin peeling Scabbing and crusting Pain Tenderness Itching Burning Most of these skin reactions are mild to moderate and they disappear when treatment is completed. They may be signs that the product is working.
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed Aldara cream for my genital warts and have a couple of questions. 1) My doctor told me to apply the cream all over the shaft of my penis & around the scrotum area - in order to help treat sub-clinical warts. Everything from the instructions on the cream to my reading on the internet says "apply directly to the warts and avoid contact with skin around the warts" What is your advice?
Avatar n tn These require no treatment. Aldara can be quite irritating. I think you should stop it and let the skin alone so it can heal over. Then let the dermatologist diagnose you properly. Best. Dr.
Avatar n tn com has many posts on HPV and aldara side effects and may be helpful. BTW someone with HPV is more likely to get anal cancer so keep on top it that. You might make sure your doctor does digital rectal exams. Good luck.
Avatar n tn To answer you specific question, different people tolerate the various therapies diffferently. None of them is perfect either in effectiveness or side effects. Condylox may work better for you, and may (or may not) be less toxic. In addition, there are several treatments that doctors can apply in their offices. If a dermatologist confirms the diagnosis, s/he may treat you with freezing, electrocautery, laser therapy, or even surgical removal.
Avatar n tn I have visited the GUM clinic around four or five times since and been given the freezing treatment followed by Aldara cream and although every time I had the full STI testing this was found to be the only virus I had (or had symptoms for). However, on the last visit I made around mid july I was given the cream again.
1306047 tn?1333247191 I remember you from the past on this forum. Aldara can have side effects that you mention and was never something I was going to use. I agree with freezing or burning them off. The sooner they are gone, the better.
Avatar f tn Well I also used Salicylic Acid every 4 hours which stopped the Aldara side effects of itching and burning. Now the Salicylic Acid (find in the wart remover aisle) It REALLY burns like fire but it's gone in 3-5 minutes tops. Gone. Gone. No pain. No itch. But It's intense. Like jumping into ice cold water. If you are willing to go through some intense but short bursts of pain I highly recommend doing what I did. The apple cider vinegar is intense drawn out pain. I couldn't handle it.
Avatar m tn Still not sure if this is due to the medication. Other than that I haven't noticed any effects or any type of side effects. Everything I read online says the areas should be very red/inflamed. Has anyone had a positive experience with Imiquimod without showing many effects? Should I just give it some more time or is it apparent that Imiquimod isn't going to work for me? Wondering if Podofilox or the stronger 5% Aldara cream would have been a better choice.
Avatar n tn although in many communities, some general surgeons specialize in colon and rectal problems. Don't be tempted to use Aldara internally; it won't work and could cause painful side effects.

2206935 tn?1373642205 No one treatment is better than another. People react differently to each type of method used. Your doctor may try to use liquid nitrogen and freeze your warts. I do not recommend surgery. Your warts will resolve eventually on their own anyway, be patient.
Avatar f tn So my question is if the aldara cream has caused this and I’m wondering for anyone who has used this cream how long does the side effects last ? Also presenting the symptoms I listed above is I️t possible that I have LS. Side note: I will be going to the GYN soon for a checkup but I just want to know or hear others opinions.
Avatar n tn So 2nd opinion may not clarify things, especially with to treat first and not worry about side effects, given high rates of general population infection. I know it’s hard to diagnose without a visual exam, but even if I do have microscopic warts, why trade an immaterial, benign mark for a material scar?
Avatar m tn He prescribed Aldara, which has not had the desired effect to date (I'm 1/3 through the treatment). I've since seen my regular (first) dermatologist and he inquired about the spot. Again, upon clinical observation, he stated "that is not a condyloma". I'm looking for feedback on a course of treatment: Should I get another biopsy? Should I just get it surgically removed by a urologist? As a urologist, what is your clinical observation or experience with a spot such as this?
Avatar n tn I had roughly 5-8 cryo treatments, the first few being on a weekly basis, then with a couple of weeks in between. However 10 weeks after the final cryo treatment I noticed the larger wart on the right hand side starting to come back. Again it was like a small grey lump with a smooth surface. I went back to the GUM clinic and another doctor gave me the warticon again, I have used this for the last 4 weeks and it has had no effect, the wart is growing again.
Avatar n tn , but that doesn't mean it is the only option or that it is necessarily best for you. 2) TCA has no side effects other than the direct irritation of tissues, which is why it works against warts. There is no maximum treatment. But please understand I'm not much of an expert on the stuff: I have never used it! My clinic has always stuck with podophyllin, cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, and in recent years, prescriptions for podofilox or imiquimod. I hope this helps a bit.
