Imiquimod aldara

Common Questions and Answers about Imiquimod aldara

aldara

Avatar m tn We show that isostearic acid, a major component of the vehicle, promotes inflammasome activation in cultured keratinocytes, and so may contribute to the observed effects of Aldara on murine skin. Aldara therefore stimulates at least two immune pathways independently, and both imiquimod and vehicle are required for a full inflammatory response. Although it remains to be tested, it is possible that imiquimod-independent effects also contribute to the therapeutic efficacy of Aldara.
Avatar m tn She did use a cream on him that appeared to temporarily work-- imiquimod cream 5% - drug name Aldara. It has 12 single application doses (each the size of a postage stamp). She writes: "Not much in them so it's hard to only use one on an application. It cost $180 more in some other drugstores. I bought two boxes and used for 5 ½ weeks Monday to Friday as the vet said.
Avatar n tn Ive been using imiquimod for almost the full term. The area affected is between my scrotum and inner thigh crease. In the matter of a night i got redness and sores. Ive stopped using it and wash daily. It doesnt help that its right where my jeans and underwear ride. Any help in relief?
Avatar n tn Ive been on aldara (imiquimod) 5% for approximately 2 months now. I cant notice if im seeing any improvement with my genital warts. However, ive developed a ridiculous rash around the application site. which is extremely red and irritated. The rash looks almost like if i ran really fast and slid my knee on a rug, except its around the base of my penis. Its sometimes itchy and i feel as if at sometimes its developing a particular scab. will this redness ever go away?
Avatar m tn I applied aldara (imiquimod) to the shaft of the penis in an attempt to get rid of what I presumed were penile warts. About a week after use, I developed well localised red and swollen skin on the head of the penis which then ulcertated and has been slow to heal. I have not been herpes positive before and dont think I have had recent contact with any herpes positive partners.
Avatar m tn Hello, Aldara cream or Imiquimod is used for treatment of actinic keratosis, warts and topical treatment of biopsy-confirmed, primary superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) in immunocompetent adults. It is still not confirmed whether your mole is a malignancy or a mole. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. Confirmation can be done by excisional biopsy with narrow margins.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. Imiquimod (Aldara) commonly causes irritation, including various combinations of redness, soreness, and sometimes overt ulceration of the treated tissues. In fact, that's how it works against warts -- causing inflammation in and around wart tissues. And herpes doesn't cause redness as it's only symptom. For confirmation, you should discuss this with the doctor or clinic that prescribed your imiquimod treatment.
Avatar n tn Hi. The US FDA recommends that Aldara (Imiquimod) be used with caution in patients with pre-existing autoimmune disease. It's not absolutely contraindicated for someone with an autoimmune problem, but Aldara has not been properly evaluated for these types of patients, so care should be taken when Aldara is used in these cases. The US FDA also does not officially approve its use for melanoma or pre-melanoma (lentigo maligna).
Avatar n tn I was using aldara and it cleared be about 90%+ in about a month. Then it stopped working entirely...Have you heard of anything like this or know why it might happen. Thanks in advance for the help.
Avatar f tn Hi, Aldara cream contains the active ingredient imiquimod. Imiquimod is an immune response modifier. It causes your body to produce more interferon. Interferon is a substance which your body produces naturally to help fight viruses and some skin diseases. Although the exact way that Aldara works is unknown, it is believed to be due to its effects on the immune system.
Avatar n tn I have talked to several docs some use cryo but I have not found any that use laser. None even brought up imiquimod which I learned about online and feel that it might be best in my situation. It seems they prescribe whatever they are familiar with. Also a transmission question. Would my partner get the condyloma exactly where my affected skin touched theres? or could it pop up anywhere on them once they have contracted it? Also does my sperm carry the hpv virus?
Avatar m tn Hello, The skin of penis is very thin and delicate and if you apply aldara imiquimod then you should pull the foreskin back and gently wash it daily. Failing to do so may result in swelling, wearing away of the skin, or pain in pulling back the foreskin. You can resort to other treatment options also like electrical cautery, surgical removal, Carbon dioxide laser treatment and electrodesiccation.
Avatar n tn Hello there, thank you for the advice you gave me the other day.I went to my doctor yesterday & he prescribed Aldara cream for me to apply on the warts/skin tags that I have on my face & neck area.Does any one know if this stuff really works,or is there any pre-cautions or side affects that I should be aware of?How long does it take to see results?I was told to apply this cream three times a week.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn Hello I am hoping that one of you have experience or knowledge with the cream Aldara or Imiquimod. I have been using it for about 4 weeks now on anal warts and it has made them pretty much go away. But the itching and burning is EXTREME to say the least and is a minute to minute struggle every day and is ruining my life. I am wondering how long to expect this to continue after I discontinue using the cream or any suggestions for relief until then.
Avatar m tn Your dermatologist has much more experience using imiquimod (Aldara) than I do. We don't use it as the main warts treatment in our STD clinic and I have personally treated very few patients with it. Please confirm my replies with your dermatologist. 1) The research studies with imiquimod applied it only to overt, visible warts. In theory, broader application might eradicate the more widespread HPV infection that usually accompanies warts, but to my knowledge this hasn't been studied.
Avatar m tn The doctor prescribed me Aldara which is a cream to treat genital warts. I was told to apply it 3 times a week, and Ive been doing it so, until a week ago when I researched all about Aldara and it says to do it twice a week. I am currently in week 8. So The warts are gone.. they were gone on week 4, but now the issue is this. As part of the down part of using Aldara is that it makes your skin go red where you apply it. But what happened now is that it burned off a piece of my skin.
Avatar m tn My question to the forum is how well/soon did Aldara work for you? Since I've started using Aldara, I have noticed zero improvement so I'm just curious how long it took. And the doctor never said anything about genital warts, just that it was viral, is it common to prescribe Aldara for something other than genital warts? I've been reading some topics on this forum and found that it is uncommon for the bumps (if they are warts) to be in the pubic area/ lower abdomen.
Avatar f tn Hello, Aldara cream should be applied 3 times per week to external genital/perianal warts. Aldara (imiquimod) Cream treatment should continue until there is total clearance of the genital/perianal warts or for a maximum of 16 weeks. It should be left on the skin for 6 -10 hours, after which time the cream should be removed by washing the area with mild soap and water. It shows results frequently after 6-8 weeks of use.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Aldara/Imiquimod cream for what was thought to be a small genital wart (turns out it is not a wart). I developed and still have these horrible small ulcer like lesions inside my labia. My entire vaginal area became swollen, red, irritated, itchy and burns. I had flu like symptoms as well. Please whatever you do, DO NOT use Aldara / imiquimod cream. Turns out it eats the mucosal lining of any area, and can cause an immune system disease. http://www.doctorsaredangerous.
Avatar n tn He excised off 2 of the bigger warts and prescribed me Aldara (imiquimod) to be applied every mon, wed, and fri to the smaller warts he didn't cut off during the visit. I went a whole month doing this. The Aldara did nothing to the warts and just made my skin irritated (red, tender). I called the dermotologist and advised him, and he said to keep usining the Aldara another month and see what happens.
Avatar m tn I inquired to my doctor about trying Aldara, as I have some old aldara that I tried on my keloid scars years ago, he told me to "try it" and that it should work in three days, after reading much online about people having horrible experiences with this drug i chose to try condyline one more time in my last trial which is where I am now. Now that I can see the warts coming back again, my question is; Should I try using aldara?
Avatar f tn Hello, Aldara is Imiquimod which is used in treatment of basal cell carcinoma having normal immune system and it is not used for squamous cell carcinoma. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Is there any chance the recurrent lesions are herpes and not warts? That said, the answer is yes, imiquimod (Aldara) can cause irritation and soreness that could mimic herpes, and a secondary infection could cause lymph node enlargement. Tight clothing isn't the issue. The bottom line is that I can't tell from an online description whether you have herpes, irritation from imiquimod, both, or neither (i.e., something else).
1306047 tn?1333247191 Doctor gave me Aldara. Thought I'd pass my thoughts along. I've had warts burned off with nitrogen and cauterized as well. Aldara doesn't seem to be an alternative to me. First, you have to apply three nights a week for three months. Then, the skin on your shaft and balls and get irritated to the point of breaking open and bleeding. If bleeding sores is a side effect of Aldara, why not just get the warts zapped or burnt, have the sore, let it heal and be done with it.
Avatar m tn My question is that if this is a hpv lesion and not a visible wart as such can it be treated with aldara? I'm concerned that it may damage the skin as it is very thin here.
Avatar m tn I had tried Imiquimod, Aldara and some other creams for a while without seeing improvements. My girlfriend used Imiquimod and got positive results. Maybe, I was not so lucky.
Avatar f tn However don't ignore and still see your doctor to make sure, they should be able to do a swab and or blood testfor HSV What are the possible side effects of imiquimod topical (Aldara)? Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Avatar f tn He said that since he wanted it frozen off he had to set an appointment. So they gave he the imiquimod cream to use in the mean time. His discharge papers say "discharge diagnosis: small skin tag(s) on penis (condylomata acuminata)." Why does it say skin tag and genital warts? I'm confused. Which is it?
