Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn and upper back pain right side

heartburn

Whilst the Diarrhoea lasted, I had two forms of pain cramps and pain in the mid to upper <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side (under my ribs). The pain was dull with periods of sharp pains that lasted between 5 and 20 minutes. I was also being woken several times at night with a pain just below my sternum and on the background-color: #dae8f4'>right background-color: #dae8f4'>side that prevented me from breathing properly. The only way to slightly relieve it was to pass urine but I would wake a few hours later with the same pain.
Since my two trips to the ER, I have had some extreme pain in my chest and stomache area, and I believe it to be related to some kind of acid reflux, or <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>heartburn, or something background-color: #dae8f4'>like that. The pain is pretty severe at times, and I am afraid to eat. I sometimes stay up for hours with very severe pains that keep me awake. I take Maalox, Mylanta, tums, tylenol, and advil pm to aleviate the pain, but nothing seems to help. I was prescribed Protonix yesterday by the doctor at the clinic.
Starting 3/02, I had constant upper <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right under rib pain. I went to GI doctor and had upper GI, Ultrasound, liver bloodwork, hydascan done. Nothing showed up. I also had CT of the kidneys, since I have kidney stones that have not moved. One report said "There are 2 calcifications in the background-color: #dae8f4'>right upper quadrant. Ultrasound of this area showed no stone in either the gallbladder or kidney. The significance of this is uncertain. IMPRESSION: background-color: #dae8f4'>right upper quadrant calcifications.
Shes 13 now, so I have had it for a while.,.. My question is does anyone know WHY my <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>heartburn pain starts in my upper back, background-color: #dae8f4'>right behind my background-color: #dae8f4'>heart area, and then proceeds to a bad burning sensation in my neck and throat...its very painful and is relieved my antacids, although only for a short period of time, which leaves me taking several doses before all is over.
When I told the surgeon about the <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side pain he said everyone has aches and pains and all my tests came back negative(liver, kidney, gallbladder) since then the pain has grown significantly. I also feel background-color: #dae8f4'>like I've pulled a muscle in my background-color: #dae8f4'>side and I feel pressure all the way to my rectal area. I have a cat scan scheduled for this week, an ob-gyn next week and a gastro in March. What could this be? I also have IC.
Very rarely pancreatitis can present with a background-color: #dae8f4'>right background-color: #dae8f4'>sided upper abdominal pain and not the typical pain in upper abdomen background-color: #dae8f4'>going to the back. This too is easily detected by CT scan and pancreatic enzymes. I would strongly recommend you to see a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system). It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I am a 40 year old female who is underbackground-color: #dae8f4'>going some SEVERE upper <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right quadrant pain. Started approx. mid-afternoon, several hours after a light lunch, felt background-color: #dae8f4'>like someone had punched me in my sternum, radiates to the background-color: #dae8f4'>right quandrant to the background-color: #dae8f4'>right scapula area. Had light dinner fearful to eat anything heavy but also fearful that it is being caused by an empty stomach. Took Zantac and Tums, Mylanta with no relief. Up all night in severe pain, no change of position seemed to make it better.
However 8 years ago I started to have these sever pains with which I used divol that seemed to worked if I popped three in my mouth one time. As of one year ago I got this excruciating pain in the same top <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right hand <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side of my stomach which is now a bit tender and puffy. I went to the doctor who give me morphine injections to stop the pain. Sometimes when I vomit it helps sometimes I have to go to ER for the pain injections.
Keep me posted as to your check-ups. I have been having pain in the <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side below the <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right rib cage for a while now, sometimes a burning sensation. I have had an abdominal scan and an ulltrasound ab done; also a pelvic ultrasound. Everything comes out normal. The liver has small cysts, but they told me not to worry. I am background-color: #dae8f4'>going for an endoscopy on Feb 6th. It is very frustrating. If someone shares similar symptoms, could you please let me know what, if anything, you have found out?
I am a 22 year old female with a history of good health. For the past few weeks, I have experienced severe pain in my lower background-color: #dae8f4'>right pelvic area just above my hip. I consulted my doctor and he ordered a CT scan which showed a 2cm ovarian cyst on the background-color: #dae8f4'>right ovary. I waited until I started my period to see if the cyst would rupture on it's own, as they normally do. The last day of my period was Saturday and on Sunday I started having severe pain just below my ribs on the background-color: #dae8f4'>right background-color: #dae8f4'>side.
I also had a HIDA scan due to upper <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right abdominal pain and my ejection fraction was at 52 percent- MRCP was done which looks at the duct work to liver, gallbladder and pancreas- all looked fine. You are older than I with a better GFR than mine! You have some lesions on your liver they have not identified- did they suggest a follow-up study for those? Did they order in your many blood tests an AFP tumor marker test regarding your liver lesions?
my pain is below <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right hand rib knawing ache and also upper quadrant background-color: #dae8f4'>going from my <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side rib cage to my back its pretty unbearable. as i stated in 18/3/02 post a comment i had all tests last year but all they found was a polp or small stone in gallbladder (then it was not visible on 2nd ct scan what was visible was small liver cysts from the ultrasound which they tell me its nothing to worry about. i also have a slling sliding hernia. anybody got any ideas.
the pain was more under my background-color: #dae8f4'>right ribcage, but radiated up to my shoulder....also i had a really bad muscle spasm one time where i thought i had a puntured lung becouse everytime i would breathe in i would get a really sharp pain, it turned out i had a deep muscle injury from doing gymnastics on the parrallel bars!
I have had pain/burning in my upper left <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side for most of this year. It started as something that would come on after I ate. I would have "attacks" of strong burning on my upper left background-color: #dae8f4'>side and a sharp pain in one spot on the left next to my ribs. I stopped eating fat, except for very little, and dairy. I eat rice, bread and very bland foods...along with very small meals. This has made the pain less but it is always there...every day.
CT scans, ultrasounds and MRIs all came back neg for stones. Pain varied between dull and intense, and I eventually began suffering from other symptoms including body aches, chronic diarrhea, occasional rashes and iritis. Follow-up w/GI and rheumatologist.
I have acid reflux although the pain is present at times when reflux and <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>heartburn are absent. It's on the <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side, under my last rib - usually on my back though lately moves to the background-color: #dae8f4'>side as well as the front, depending. I'm extremely uncomfortable and I'm starting to feel background-color: #dae8f4'>like I'm nuts. I was glad to see that others here share my problem so at least I'm not alone. Any feedback?
I have had other symtoms since as well,background-color: #dae8f4'>like getting light headed and falling, pains shooting down <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right arm,.<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>heartburn,stabbing pains in <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side of back, a hard time swallowing,my <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right hand turns a blueish purple color and hand, and chronic pain in my neck.I have been background-color: #dae8f4'>going to PT for 6 visits ,they now want to re-evaluate me because they think its doing no good and seems my symptoms are getting worse.
I am so concerned. The pain under my ribcage and <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side is still there and now seems to be radiating to lower <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right abdomen and lower back. I am able to eat better now but I still have the severe belching when eating and stools have changed alot in consistency from very soft brown, firm kelly green w/mucous, to brown with bbackground-color: #dae8f4'>right red blood on surface that I can tell.
About the first of March, I became very nauseated and couldn't eat along with pain under <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right ribs. back to my primary doc who did a HIDA Scan and results came back that my gallbladder was only functioning at 28%. Still having background-color: #dae8f4'>heartburn problems. Had my gallbladder out on March 12 and am still nauseated and not feeling good. I was weighed at the doctor's office on Monday and have now lost a total of 20 pounds in one month.

Can duplicate pain everytime area is pressed or when I lean against something. Pain in <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side of back, feels sore, gets worse at times, hard time moving. After the course was over my symptoms of pain became worse and I began to have night sweats, tremendous weakness in extremeties, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>heartburn, and lightheadedness and the pain now radiated down background-color: #dae8f4'>into hip as well. I went to a gastro. dr at U. of PA Hosp. and he did the following tests for Carcinoid. 5-Hiaa was done twice...

I have asked my doctor about taking synthroid (I took it years ago and had no <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side effect). His answer to me was his wife takes it and its ok. I will address the pain with him but I sure don't want to go through any more changes with taking a different medicine. I feel overwhelmed at the different things that still have to be addressed. Do any of you ever feel that way. The worse is over but there are still lots of things to address. Thanks for your help.
The extreme pain from the endometriosis has returned and I also have very creepy crawly feelings in my legs, even pain and a lot of charlie horses. I have a pain in my upper back on either <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side sometimes that is very sharp when I breathe in. Sometimes I even have sharp pain in my chest. It seem background-color: #dae8f4'>like these pains are related to pms because they are close to that time. It seems because of my age my pms has gotten worse,I am much more irritable.
Now, before I had the MRI, I came in to work (I have a computer desk job) and when I sat down I felt a horrible, sharp pain on the left <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side of my upper back that still aches/burns from time to time. Thinking that I'm not mobile enough and should do more stretching during work, I started doing just that. I began doing neck/shoulder stretches, and 2 days later I had a stiff neck.
Over time it spread to my <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right groin and up background-color: #dae8f4'>into my <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right abdomen. The pain subbackground-color: #dae8f4'>sided in my groin and stayed on in my <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side lower abdomen. It was constant and worsened by activity and sitting down. It only seemed to be relieved by laying down--and sometimes not even then. Tests showed now internal organ damage or hernias.
The pains come and go, and although are mostly on the <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>right upper <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side, they also come on the left upper <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>side as well, just below my bottem rib. It kind of feels background-color: #dae8f4'>like a burning sensation. Lately, they have come back and I am background-color: #dae8f4'>going back to the doctor for probably another scan. I was always so worried that the pains were related to my pancreas, given my father's history, although it seems background-color: #dae8f4'>like more gallbladder related.
That doctor believes the upper pain is my duodenum and the lower is somethig seperate and has set me up for an ultrasound on my pelvic area thinking it's ovation. If that shows nothing next is ct scan. Sent me home with percoset and here I am. I am super frustrated though I know abdominal pain is hard to diagnose and I realise it's alot of hoops to jump but serioulsy I am terrified of the pain, it's background-color: #dae8f4'>like waiting for someone to shoot me with a blindfold on it just comes and floors me.
