976897 tn?1379167602 It would appear from some papers published that Heart disease in women used to be a lot less in numbers than in Men, especially up to a certain age. I think this is why so many Doctors dismissed heart problems in women with typical symptoms and some still do. However, it has been realised that since women have taken the roles they have in the work place, heart disease is definitely on the increase for them. It seems the more stressful the job, the worse their condition becomes.
Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Myocardial ischemia does not commonly occur at your age. But with the high risk factors and if there is a strong family history it can occur. In the Framingham Heart Study, the incidence of an MI over a 10-year follow-up was 12.9/1000 in men 30 to 34 years old and 5.2/1000 in women 35 to 44 years old. In two series of patients with CHD at ≤40 years of age, women comprised 5.6 and 11.4 percent of patients. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn He died last September of heart disease that none of us knew he had. Do you always have heart disease if you have a heart attack? Were we just too dumb to know that?

Avatar f tn Since it is a risk factor for heart disease and stroke, this is important to find out. The current recommended treatment is niacin in a dose of 1-3 grams daily. However, please do not take it without asking your doctor. Take care!

Avatar f tn Kidney disease has long been associated with a high incidence of atherosclerosis, or heart disease, but the reasons are not fully known. Certain conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure and dyslipidemia, are often attendant with kidney disease and have been pinpointed as risk factors for atherosclerosis.
Avatar f tn The diminished blood flow can injure the heart cells impairing heart wall movement, the heart will enlarge in an attempt to compensate, and untreated will cause the heart to eventually fail. Medication will/should dilate the vessels enabling the heart to supply an adequate supply of blood to the heart, the heart's workload is reduced by the less resistance of unconstricted vessels. Control risk factors where possible as stated, etc.
Avatar f tn No one test can diagnose heart disease. Tests to help diagnose heart disease include: electrocardiogram, stress testing, echocardiography, chest x-ray, blood tests*, electron-beam computed tomography, coronary angiography and cardiac catheterization. * Blood tests can include total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, Lp(a), Apo A1, ApoB, CRP, homocysteine, BNP, fibrinogen, blood glucose/insulin, vitamin D, testosterone, estrogen.
Avatar n tn If stenosis of the mitral valve has occurred, giving a murmur, it could be the result of an underlying cause by infection or birth defect, making the heart work much harder than it needs to. This can lead to eventual heart failure. Of course heart disease can also cause the heart to adapt, enlarge, and force the mitral valve out of shape, making a murmur. So while a murmur itself doesn't give the pain, you can obviously have heart problems and pain while a murmur exists.
Avatar f tn Plus, your age makes heart disease very unlikely plus the fact that women of child bearing age are generally protected from heart disease would make heart disease very unlikely.
Avatar f tn A tragic example of undiagnosed aortic disease is John Ritter, who at age 54 was thought to be having a heart attack when he took ill and went to the emergency room. He was there for several hours and died on the cath table when he bled out from a "shredded" aorta.
Avatar f tn Heart pain is caused by a lack of bloodflow to the heart wall caused by blocked arteries or a thick heart wall where the blood supply has been outstripped, some types of Congenital Heart Disease (although that is also rare) can cause chest pain due to heart disease. Graves Disease can cause palpitations for some and that could be a cause for the dizziness. Unless there is a problem at the time the Holter is being run, that won't show up.
Avatar n tn I had just visited to a cordiologist for my heart problems..He assured me that i dont have any problem in my heart..then what about those eco test i had done six months back..how can i believe n to whom i should belive..i still feel the pain in chest n breathing problem is reduced but it happens sumtime when i get tired while doing minor household works..
Avatar f tn As someone who was born with a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), I can tell you that the high blood pressure, the murmur, and the emergence of symptoms in adolescence are consistent with BAV. I'm not saying that BAV is what your son has. I'm saying that it's something to rule out. BAV is the most common congenital heart defect, and it often is not evident at birth. Typically, it starts to cause symptoms later in life, anywhere from childhood to middle age.
Avatar m tn My source and refers to a most recent study to link calcium supplements with heart attack risk among women has researchers encouraging people over age 50 to get their daily recommended 1,200 milligrams of the mineral from food sources. The study published this week in the journal BMJ supports previous findings, and the lead author called for a reassessment of using calcium supplements to fight the bone-thinning disease osteoporosis.
Avatar m tn A 11 MET exercise is very good and it correlated to heart rate (120-age)...not blood pressure. Because you are a smoker I am surprised you can do 11 METs. An EKG is not a very good test for any condition other than arrhythmia and an Echo does not include blood flow to tissues. Stress test abnormalities (positive results) are an indication of imbalances of relative blood flow to the left ventricular muscle tissue.
Avatar m tn can any one tell me that is heart disease genetic...or it can happen to any one..
