heart

Avatar n tn My most recent tests indicate that my levels are at 10.7. Is there any correlation between high calcium levels and heart attacks? Could the high calcium levels have caused a muscle spasm which, in turn, released a blood clot in my left ventricle causing the heart attack? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Thanks for that, having read a bit more I find that the studies related to people taking calcium alone, i take it with vitamin d which was not included.
Avatar f tn In my case, I have had heart attacks and have a couple of stents in my RCA. I suffer with alot of chest pains. So much so that I recently went to the ER thinking it was another heart attack. While there it was found that I suffer with coronary artery spasms and they do put me down. I have to stop what I am doing and wait for it to pass. There are other reasons for chest pains, and I wish there was a way to stop these.
1409552 tn?1281479461 t happen when you have calcium to eat in your diet because the calcium from food is very slowly absorbed and so the blood calcium level hardly changes at all." So the bottom line is, try to eat natural calcium rather than take supplements." http://www.articlesbase.
Avatar m tn He recommended that get a calcium score study to measure the calcification in my aorta and carotid artery, My calcium score test was low for my age and he believed that if I have a low calcium score I should stop taking meds for cholesterol My family history made me think about this........My dad had angina at 57 but had low cholesterol, while my mom had over 300 cholesterol but never developed any heart problems.
Avatar m tn This occurrence represents about 90% of the heart attacks. The hard plaque within the lumen represents about 10% of heart attacks. Hope this helps give you some insight, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.
Avatar f tn im 25 years old and a smoker for many years. there is no heart disease that runs in my family that im aware of. but at my age can i still have a heart attack...lately i get constant pain up and down my arms and into my shoulders then center of my chest hurts and it feels heavy but not real bad it kinda feels like heart burn. the pain in my arms will only be in one arm at a time. the past 2 days the pain in arm and chest comes and goes..
Avatar f tn Do you consume a lot of dairy? Calcium and magnesium have to be in electrical balance, and too much of one leaches out the other. Magnesium is very important in relaxing the nerves and the muscles and the blood vessels. How were your magnesium levels? I mention dairy because it's very high in calcium and low in magnesium. Do you eat a lot of green leafy vegetables, which are more balanced? I don't know if this is your problem, but worth investigating.
Avatar f tn I am at 25 year old women was born at 25 weeks premature in 1989 weighing 1 pound.
Avatar m tn Also, the calcium within the layers is soft plaque that can rupture into the lumen and cause a heart attack...most heart attacks happen due to this occuring and the hard plaque within the lumen account for occlusions and ischemia can damage heart cells. Your score 24 is insignificant. Treatment if necessary would to control your cholesteral, maintain appropriate body weight, exercise, etc. I believe the CT scan is over done on an individual basis.
Avatar m tn That seems to be a stronger link to calcification (sclerosis) in the arteries than drinking milk. A doctor can test your calcium levels and let you know if they're too high. I personally don't think eating some yogurt each day will do any harm. As for supplements, there are different types of calcium on the market, some work better than others. Ideally we should get our calcium from food.
Avatar f tn At the end of the study, the women taking calcium pills had a greater risk of heart attack, stroke and sudden death compared with those taking the placebo; the risk of having a heart attack was about 50 percent higher, the risk of stroke almost 40 percent higher. Why might calcium increase the risk of vascular disease?
Avatar m tn Also, inflammation may promote the growth of plaques and trigger blood clots – the biggest cause of strokes and heart attacks. When a blood clot blocks an artery to your heart, you have a heart attack. If the blood clots block an artery to the brain, you have a stroke.
215461 tn?1331862765 I have diarrhea, heart palps, headaches, periods of heart racing, red eyes. and obviously the panic attacks. I think that I might have both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid symptoms at the same time. Is this likely? What test should I beg my endo for (as he thinks I just have panic disorder). I know I do not though, and I cannot get others to listen. I have also became extremely intolerant to gluten so I have cut that out. I'm thinking it could be my adrenal glands? Mitro valve prolapse?
Avatar n tn The acquired form most commonly found in women is secondary to obstructive coronary atherosclerosis, and can develop in young women, especially if they have other risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, smoke or have a strong family history of heart disease.
Avatar n tn m only 38, I feel like I have very high risk factors for heart disease given my past history of heavy smoking, obesity, and that my father has had about 6 heart attacks starting in his early 40's. I had a routine stress test last year which was good, my cholesterol is only 153. So my question is about calcium scoring. It is very tempting for me to run down to my local cardiology hack and pay $100 for a scan.
Avatar n tn My father is 69 years old had a stroke 12 years ago, had pacemaker installed about 8 years ago, he has had a couple heart attacks. he also has congestive heart failure and is always in atrial fib. His heart is now working at 15 percent. i was wondering if there is any medication or what can be done to have his heart pump stronger so he doesnt continue to build fluid in his body. He currently takes lasix, aldactone and coumadin.
Avatar n tn He said that my chances of having a heart attack in the next 10 year were 20% because of my calcium readings, my parents history (my Dad had 3 heart attacks and the 3rd one killed him at 69 and my Mom had two heart attacks but lived until 80 and died of pneumonia).
Avatar f tn Which will cause goiters along with palpatations, racing heart, no energy, the list goes on and on!I was at the ER on a nightly basis with panic attacks. Talk to your doctor about radio active iodine ablation. I had graves disease with a goiter and had the treatment done when I was 19. I am now 38 and I am glad i did it. I still have to take a thyroid replacement everyday, but it still is alot better than what I was going through.
Avatar m tn I'm not a Doctor, but I have family history and had a triple bypass myself at 46. I did all the usual things, diet, blood pressure, cholesterol etc but nothing seemed to slow down the progression of my disease. I then realised I was the type of person easily stressed and it is now more than coincidence that I've had 2 heart attacks after times of high emotional stressful times. I think one of the best therapies you can give your buddy is keep him in good spirit.
881463 tn?1245345649 I am concerned because of the back /chest pain and the slightly high ALP of 145 (lab says up to 129 u/l(in normal range) and what I have read about bone cancer on a few sites. My calcium and PTH are normal and my doctor is not concerned about bone cancer and a bone scan I asked about.
215461 tn?1331862765 I have stopped taking my thyroid meds because every time I take them I get horrible panic attacks, heart palps, head aches..etc etc. My TSH went from 11 to 2.6 without meds???? How does this happen? It's fluctuating from hypo to hyper in extreme amounts every month. Here the results and a new problem. Over the phone they expressed concern over the parathyroid which they said was marginal? What does this mean?
Avatar f tn Absolutely normal. I have an ICD and its only fired 6 times in the past 18 months and I'm in a panic all the time. The stress associated with these devices are highly under appreciated and cause a PTSD like syndrome. I'm doing yoga, counseling to try get my head under control. Be sure his medication is doing its job - it may be time to re-evaluate or consider ablation?
Avatar n tn My question is, now I am experiencing some other things that I have read could be the early warning signs of an impending heart attack in women, they are - spasmodic dry cough (comes out of the blue, sometimes 12 x day, others 2 x day), and I am suffering from very interrupted sleep. I am waking up almost every hour on the hour every night for the past week or so. I also suffer from extreme bouts of fatigue (not always in conjuction with lack of sleep).
Avatar n tn Occlusion with hard plaque in the lumen of the vessel results in about 10% of heart attacks. Occcluded vessels untreated and progression leads to heart failure not usually a heart attack.
Avatar n tn Heart attacks are very common in women and does not always present with chest pain which is why some women do not even realize they are in danger. Please have her checked out. Keep me posted on how she is doing.
