976897 tn?1379167602 Also, I do not think most women are aware of the fact that heart disease is the number 1 killer of women. With so much emphasis put on breast cancer, the problem with heart disease is not of any worry to most women. After raising 4 kids with a full time job and a husband that worked many years out of town, I am now raising 3 young grandchildren with a full time job.
572651 tn?1530999357 In fact, in the last six years we have raised awareness of the fact that heart disease is the number one killer of women and also raised over $153 million towards much needed research of cardiovascular disease. However, our work is not done. Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer, and there are too many women who are not aware of this disease and the actions they can take to reduce their risk, and as a result are dying at the rate of 1 per minute. It’s Our Hearts. Our Choice.
1046985 tn?1305117048 Ovarian is called the silent killer or more often the whispering cancer because the symptoms are vague. Ovarian cancer is not diagnosised during annual pap smears (pap check for cervical cancer). Most women when experiencing the symptoms of ovarian cancer (bloating, pains, constipation, etc...) are more likely to ignore the symptoms or to shrug it off as something else.
Avatar n tn It is also a major cause of disability. There are many different forms of heart disease. The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart itself. This is called coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. It's the major reason people have heart attacks.
Avatar f tn It is worth just mention and check up with your doctor, heart disease is the number killer of women. And believe me no one thought I was heart attack material, you dont have to have any other signs or symptoms to have heart disease. Go to your doctor.
Avatar n tn My question is, now I am experiencing some other things that I have read could be the early warning signs of an impending heart attack in women, they are - spasmodic dry cough (comes out of the blue, sometimes 12 x day, others 2 x day), and I am suffering from very interrupted sleep. I am waking up almost every hour on the hour every night for the past week or so. I also suffer from extreme bouts of fatigue (not always in conjuction with lack of sleep).
Avatar m tn I am starting to worry that I have heart disease but not sure if it is just a result of stress. I don't have med insurance so I am not sure how to get this checked out but I am definitely concerned.
Avatar f tn let us know city/state or providence/country and we will try to help you! The description of disease state you have is not to be ignored...you need a specialist! The pain will only get worse until the disease is excised from the pelvis...so don't wait...start making the calls to the specialists and get your appoint because it can be a wait to get in to the true specialists!
Avatar n tn Even with a low risk you should be evaluated as chest pain in women can be very deceiving and it is the number one killer of women. I think you should see your doctor within the next 24 hours and if it recurs go to the emergency room to be safe.
1161780 tn?1266711844 There are several organizations dedicated to the advancement of research and to the dissemination of knowledge on heart disease. There are scores of professionals whose experience and recommendations can be found easily online. There is even a month dedicated to bringing awareness home. Here’s my question; heart disease is just that… a disease. How do we fight a disease? Better yet, how do I fight a disease? When It’s Personal Problems take on a whole new meaning when you are the owner.
Avatar n tn This also could potentially be the initial signs of a heart attack. Heart attacks are the number 1 killer of women. Make an appointment and go to your doctor immediately and have all of the appropriate tests done. Again, this is very serious. A relative of mine whom was a previous smoker had the same symptoms and she went to the doctor and they said that she was very close to having a heart attack. Goodluck...
Avatar f tn It just scared me because my entire family has gone to heart disease. Honestly, my grandpa died in '98 of a heart attack and my grandma died in August of a heart attack. My mom has heart problems and my dad and his side of the family has heart murmurs. It's a matter of time before we're diagnosed. I haven't had anymore but my heart is racing and I feel flushed, I can feel my heart beating hard. I think I will pay the doctor a visit tomorrow.
Avatar f tn However, studies have found that symptoms occur in many women even at early stages of the disease. For this reason, early identification of symptomatic women has become a goal of the current approach to this disease.
Avatar n tn If stenosis of the mitral valve has occurred, giving a murmur, it could be the result of an underlying cause by infection or birth defect, making the heart work much harder than it needs to. This can lead to eventual heart failure. Of course heart disease can also cause the heart to adapt, enlarge, and force the mitral valve out of shape, making a murmur. So while a murmur itself doesn't give the pain, you can obviously have heart problems and pain while a murmur exists.
Avatar f tn Studies show that ovary removal or post-hysterectomy ovarian failure increases risk for many health problems including heart disease (the #1 killer of women), osteoporosis, hip fracture, cognitive and memory impairment, dementia, Parkinsonism, mood disorders (depression, mood swings, anxiety, irritability), vision and skin changes, poor sleep quality, urogenital atrophy, sexual dysfunction, more severe hot flushes (I think that's all of them!).
Avatar f tn And removal of both ovaries has a long list of increased health risks including heart disease, the #1 killer of women. To put it in perspective, only about 1 in 100 women dies of ovarian cancer (1 in 73 is diagnosed with it) while 1 in 3 women dies of heart disease. My friend and I were over-treated as many women are for gynecologic problems.

1161780 tn?1266711844 Having trouble explaining your condition to family or friends, try this. I knew there were a lot of women out there with heart disease, what I didn’t know is how many of them needed to hear my story. That’s where you come in. Why It Matters Stories of women with heart disease abound. You may not feel as if your story is worth telling. Perhaps you don’t think of yourself as a writer. All of that doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you actually tell your story.
973741 tn?1342342773 The researchers found that compared with women who never used MHT, women who did had a significantly higher risk of developing invasive breast cancer. They estimated that 6.3% of women who never used MHT developed breast cancer, compared to 8.3% of women who used the combination drug continually for five years. That’s roughly one extra cancer diagnosis for every 50 users." I was really young when I took ERT, and the benefits outweighed the risks - heart disease, osteoporosis, etc.
Avatar m tn re not happy about in your life, and try to think of solutions to them, put them all on papers instead of leaving them hanging in your head. if you don't have any problems, or anything u compalin from, then again don't overload urself, just let the sorrow pass.. take ur time, don't say i will have to wake up tomorrow happy, and if u don't then ur back to the depression cycle again, if u were not happy tomorrow, then there is after tomorrow. and day after tomorrow..
