Fluoxetine (Prozac) has the slowest elimination of the SSRIs.
I've been taking Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) for a few years now and about 6 months ago I upped my dosage. My sex drive on the lower dose was already low, but now it's almost non-existent. At first it wasn't a problem because I haven't been seeing anyone, but now that I am I would really like to try and fix this problem.
Since I'm female feel like this is going to be a more difficult process.
Would anyone know of any supplements that can help this side effect??
Do not stop taking fluoxetine without talking to your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking fluoxetine, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as mood changes, irritability, agitation, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, anxiety, confusion, headache, tiredness, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
I've just started up fluoxetine (prozac) for the second time and am having trouble functioning.
Does anyone know when they started to feel ANY relief from anxiety?
also, I really need to gain some weight back so does fluoxetine give anyone an INCREASED appetite?

I am taking Vyvanse and Prozac, and I'm having trouble getting myself to eat. I am still in a healthy weight range, so I'm not worried about that. But I've been weak, fatigued, and dizzy at times because I'm not eating enough. Are there any protein shakes I should try, or something like that, so I can be getting the nutrients I need? I hate most protein shakes because I can't stand the texture, and they're usually gross. But I have to do something.
I was aking effexor for five years, which helped my deprssion and did not affect my weight, BUT, they made me more anxious if i missed just one, and was grinding teeth all the time, and found it a struggle to come off them. Hd to change to fluoxetine because i fell pregnant, baby is 11months now, but im stll about 3 and half stone overweight , despite very healthy eating , and excercise, which is why i think its the fluoxetine.
Please help me im so confused.
Hypothyroidism is a much more likely candidate to explore..that should be treated, and in addition, look to the possibility that you are still an emotional eater dealing with emotional issues that you should address directly rather than medicate.
Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
t remember gaining weight on it. I have a relative who is on it and she is lovely and slim, so perhaps that will suit you. The doctor changed me to Effexor, but I can't remember why now. I think it is because it stops anxiety as well.
I have had depression for over 20 years, and was started on on e of the old tricyclics. Some medications I had gave me bad side effects - especially Prozac.

Yes I suffer from the same problems as you describe above and have been on and off fluoxetine for several years for major depression and I can reassure you that the side effects as far as increased anxiety at the beginning of treatment are common and I have had to take an antianxiety medication for the first couple of weeks to combat this effect. In 2-3 weeks it should subside and that's usually when I also start to feel the desired effect of fluoxetine.
Paroxetine (Paxil) may be more likely cause a significant weight gain than other drugs of this type (like fluoxetine or sertraline). Studies about citalopram found no significant weight changes for most patients (but a minority of about 5% of the patients had a weight gain of more than 5 kg).
Now let us look at some other antidepressants:
Buproprion (Zyban) reports weight loss in the course of therapy (caused by antihistaminic effects).
not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..

I was on fluoxetine (Prozac) for over a year from July 2011 then weaned off as was feeling and doing great and not wanting to be dependent on them, I had a bad week 5 week ago now with sleep so my doctor put me back on them and after 1/2 week felt great off 20mg at tea time, now this last week mainly from Wednesday I feel rubbish I know I'm getting 7/8 hours sleep but not feeling refreshed was wondering if changing to take it morning at 20mg and see if it works better or carry on tea time ta
She has lived this lifestyle for 4 yrs. Was put on phenteramine 10 wks. ate even less no weight loss. Also fluoxetine. no longer takes this. She has no appetite so a suppressant to help with overeating is not necessary bec she doesn't ever overeat, she never has. She maintains this regime in fear of gaining more weight. Nobody will give her a throxine trial. Newest dr. feels she has a low BMR and wants to retest that. She is a high achieving student, lifeguard, and voluteer.
Anyone one been on fluoxetine and not had any problems with weight gain before I went on them July 2012 I was a nice 9 half stone I'm now up to 13 stone and feeling awful? Would be good to know if sum ones had the same problem and had change of meds and what to.
I have been taking Cymbalta and Xanax at the same time for more than a year. In fact, I lost almost 30 lbs. Don't think negative. I think it depends. Some gain and sone lose weight...not sure why...

Since three days ago I noticed these rashes in my right armpit. They itch mildly and I feel mild discomfort. Can anyone tell me what these are? Are there any over the counter medications I should try?

My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night
So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
