Common Questions and Answers about Fentanyl forum

actiq

If I'm not mistaken, this forum is placed here to people to get help and not to find out how to use certain drugs. I could be wrong, but I figured I would pass that along to you.
My insurance company recently switched fentanyl from Tier 1 to Tier 3. Their claim is that there are cheaper (to them) drugs available. I use a 100 and 25 patch plus "break out" drugs. Any suggestions?
has anyone ever tried to detox off fentanyl patches (not perscribed) im in the fourth day of the worst withdraws Ive ever had. Does anyone know how long this is supposed to last?
I now have great pain in both areas. I do not know what to do. I am on fentanyl at 50 mcg every three days and about 4 percocets per day for break out pain. Really this does not stop my pain so I am at the point of thinking after a couple of years of being on oxy and now this to just get off it all. I am very scared that I am addicted. Since I am going to have a lot of pain either way I am wondering if I should just try and come off it all ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have recently began using Fentanyl 50mcg/hr Transdermal Patches. Previously I had been taking 80mg of Oxycontin bid as well as 10mg of Percocet tid to control breakthrough pain. My physician at that time discontinued the Oxycontin and Percocet cold turkey. Te next month of my life was pure hell and I believe I almost died. The resulting health issues were a kidney infection; bladder infection; UTI as well as severe dehydration with associative muscle cramping. My total weight loss was 60lbs.
Everyone says I look better (apparently my skin had gray overtones with Fentanyl). If I can do it anyone can. This forum is instrumental in helping when things seem hopeless. Good luck and let us know how things are going.
I found this forum and am very pleased to see all the information and support. I've been Rx'd fentanyl (50mcg's) and Hydrocodone (10/500's) for a serious back/spinal injury. I use the patches one every 2 days, as directed. They never lasted the 72 hours, so they dr's said to put one on every second day. That's where I am. Unfortunately they aren't lasting the 48 hrs and I'm getting the W/D symptoms on day 2. The hydro's resolve that, at least temporarily.
you have come along way and you should be so proud of yourself..I know i am.. I know you don't always agree with some of what is going on at the forum but I am glad you are still here and post when you can.
How long does it take for a 100mcg Fentanyl patch to get out of your system for a drug test?
I read about this and remember when I quit Fentanyl. Fentanyl did me so much damage, it almost killed me. I went cold turkey which is difficult but worth the result. Keeping you mind strong that you need to get control of you mind and body and not the drugs is the most important focus. You will feel much better once the drug is out of you system and you will be able to think clearer. Keep the advise mentioned here and stay on top of vitamins.
That's scary, I know many people on this forum swear by fentanyl but others despise it. How did it help relieve your pain? I was on Methadone and Percocet for breakthrough pain and recently stopped Methadone and I'm looking for a suitable ER med and my PCP suggested the patch.
I was on Fentanyl, along with various narcotic breakthrough meds but felt like the Fentanyl changed me. It's hard to describe. I came off the Fentanyl easily enough since I was on the breakthrough meds. Now I'm down to 10 to 20 mg. of oxycodone every six hours. I've always wanted to come off to see where my real pain is but I think fear has kept me from trying. But I am still trying, though slowly. I think it seems like most people have issues with anxiety, sleeplessness, etc.
So im on my second day of fentanyl 100mcg patch and dilaudid withdrawals. It's really bad already. Any suggestions how do you really know when your in full withdrawal. Before you start your subutex. Any and all advice would be appreciated.
Hi luna and welcome to the forum. I haven't had experience with fentanyl but many people on the forum have and I am sure they will give you some great advice. Have you discussed a taper plan with your doctor?
Although you are not an addict your body has become dependant, as you have discovered. Our forum is directed at Pain Management. MedHelp has another great forum directed at the issues you are experiencing. It's called the Addiction and Substance Abuse Forum. Here's the link: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Addiction-Substance-Abuse/show/77 Again I don't think you are an addict.... but the above forum will have good answers for you from ppl that have been there.
you might should check out the Pain Management Forum. Unless I misunderstood your post. Most ppl here are trying to get off all pain meds all together forever. Not that theyre meds arent working and theyre looking for something to work better.
Welcome to the forum...as GoingTo said....she can help you and the forum is a great place for support and friends.
i am on my 13th day from detoxing from 150mcg of fentanyl. i need to know why since the detox, my eyes are burning and watery, very sensitive to any light. ive been trying to make myself deal with it and get used to it....not working. also now i am finally hungry and very thirsty well i was happy i had a good meal and then felt pain in my stomach like i ate an elephant.
the glass is half full and you are in my prayers. I know there will be help from others coming from the forum. I am a bit overwhelmed with your story and your love for life. Thank you for sharing this.
Fentanyl was a rough one for me. But then I also have MS and it sent that into a tailspin and I was on the patch for 2 years verses the short period of time you were. I got off the fentanyl I was on (100 mci patch changed every 48 hrs) relatively quickly - in 2 months. I was given suboxone and clonidine to help with w/d symptoms. My suboxone taper was somewhat aggressive. I was on an 8 day taper.
It was horrible. My question is for some reason i thought i could use the fentanyl patch 100mcg just when i neede it back in june, well here it is december and for the last 2 months i have been on 200mch (2 100mch patches) constantly. I have not had a day in 6 months without wearing a patch and like I said for the last 2 months have been on 200mch.
Hi Mommy519, I wnat to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let yo know that we are glad that you have found this Forum! I need to be sure that you understand that there are NO Doctors on this Fourm. We are ALL CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other through our own expertise and experiences that we have gained from our own pain conditions. I'm sorry that you are having difficulty keeping your patch on. I ALSO use the Fentanyl Patches - 62mcg - I use one 50 and one 12.
I was on 1200mcg's of Actiq per day until I found this forum. I am now on the fentanyl patch 25mcgs to manage my cancer pain. I am due to possibly start a chemo regimen that will have about a 50/50 chance of killing me. I was abusing the actiq, because I could take as much as I wanted to numb my senses. I decided that I didn't want the w/d's drug stealing, and all the other bullshet that came with it, when my scrip had run out. Got sick of being sick.
My doctor said my fentanyl levels are too high. If anthing they should be low because sometimes I forget to change my patch as often as I should. When I started using the patch my MD said put the new patch on in PM and then the old patch off the next AM. Since I started going to a pain specialist I noticed the label said to take old patch off before putting new patch on, so I'm thinking that's the reason why I am high? Any insight, suggestions?
Hi Phillen welcome to the forum.. Yes you are experiencing wd symptoms on the second day.. You were very wise telling her/him you want off to try other treatments as with fentanyl our tolerance goes up quickly.. You should speak to your Dr. about what you are experiencing as they have meds that can help to stabilize you through the taper.. being emotional is very much normal in a taper and ct our emotions come exploding out as they have been smothered by the opiates..
I don't have any personal experience with fentanyl patches, but I believe they are strong and you've been on them for a long time. I believe they should probably be tapered as it seems you have been doing. As far as whether you actually need them anymore, well that is a conversation you need to have with a doctor. If you think your doctor lacks experience, is it possible that you can speak to a different one? Hang tight and others with experience will weigh in with some advice.
Yes I do have questions about fentanyl patches, I was informed that fentanyl was an opioid not an opiate. What is the difference? And I am aware how opiates work on our brain, the receptors, the release of too many endorphins, and seritonin levels from the opiates, that block our natural pain fighting endorphins. Does fentanyl patches do the same thing?
My mother (80 years old) has been on the Fentanyl patch for some years now for chronic back pain She has gone from 50s to 75s trying to see which one handles her pain. For a while she was on the 50s and was having break- through pain. Dr. prescribed Lortab at night. Then the Dr. moved her to 75s and also continued with the nighttime Lortab. When I visited recently(in assisted living), it appeared the nurses were dispensing the Lortab whether mom was having break-through pain or not.
I have already some good feedback from a few people on this forum who have experience with this med. However, I will be starting the 25mcg patch next week and I'm looking for anyone's experience when first using the patch. How did you feel on it? Did it make you feel queezy? Any general experiences I'm looking for both positive and negative. Did it last the full 72 hours? How long until you have go higher on your dose? Many thanks. Brian.
Also, check out the Pain Management Forum as well. There are some people there who have come off Fentanyl, both tapering and CT, for one reason or another. You may also find help in dealing with whatever pain issues you have. Personally, Fentanyl was not a good fit for me. It changed my whole body chemistry. And for me, it didn't even really work for the pain, just made me not care and doze off here and there.
