I also have frequent coughing with mucus from my throat and have to blow my nose a lot after words. My doc says it's alergies but it all started about the time i was diagnosed with thyroid disease. I know this doesn't help but you are not alone.
My theory is that my cough is caused by excessive secretion of phlegm/sputum by the mucus membranes in the respiratory tracts. Phlegm is produced naturally to catch and disable germs. I think I must be producing too much of it and this is causing me to cough. But I can't find anyone who can suggest a drug to get my body to produce less phlegm.

The first time that I attended the doctors I did a peak flow test and got prescribed a brown inhaler (approximately 10 weeks ago). The second time (approx 6 weeks ago) I attended the doctors, a blue inhaler was added for times when the mucus gets particularly bad. The third time I attended (approx 3 weeks ago) I was prescribed Beconase nasal spray to take in conjunction with the inhalers.
Has anyone tried using a netipot to relieve these symptoms? I have had the same problem for exactly a year now and it's really become unbearable. I feel a constant tightness in my throat and every time I swallow, I have coughing fits.Throughout the day I will have to clear my throat and i always have clear mucus to clear. It's made it to the point where I don't looking forward to meals anymore b/c I know what to expect.
It causes me fatigue, and it interferes with daily life, e.g. coughing up mucus all day into sink, tissues, etc. It has not let up, except for about 2 days. I have gone to approximately six doctors and no one has determined the cause nor does anyone have any ideas. I have had a car load of tests run, e.g. sinus CT scan, chest CT scan, phlegm cultures, blood work, pulmonary/respiratory tests, allergy tests, tests for immunological disorders, but nothing shows up. It's all negative.

I have always had extreme sensitivity to dust, smoke, smog, strong smells etc., etc, wherein particles seemed to get into my throat and mucus builds up in throat and I cough for I seem to be about to choke. My symptoms - I had a sore throat, coughing up mucus, mild temp, sneezing etc, about 4 months ago, ever since, the symptoms keep recurring, mainly coughing. mild crackles in my airways upon waking, which is cleared by coughing up mucus. The problem is because of slow down of stomach. As you said it right; GERD / Acid indigestion are often caused by slow stomach. When the stomach slowed down there is a build up of food and once you had mucus which was probably because of recent cold, it does not have a way to get out normally through colon. So what happens is that it tries to come out through mouth.
One way to get this problem resolved is to take necessary steps to empty the stomach through detox.
There is no stopping the cough unless I want to choke on the mucus. The excessive mucus affects my voice as well and is really annoying and extremely embarrassing. Everyone always thinks I have some kind of horrible cold if I eat around them, which makes me not want to. I have never met anyone else with this going on with them so I don't know where to begin to seek help.
This could be due to post nasal drip which is mucus accumulation in the back of the nose and throat, excessive or thick secretions, or impairment in the normal clearance of mucus from the nose and throat. Try to avoid the nasal irritants such as cigarette smoke, perfume, aerosol sprays, smoke, smog and car exhaust. For the past several weeks I have had what seems to be a constant over-production of mucus draining in my throat. It's like I have to clear my throat every few minutes -- VERY ANNOYING!! Now my throat is getting sore from all the clearing and I'm waking up at night coughing from that 'tickling' sensation in the back of my throat.
When I was younger I would have a problem where I would start coughing whenever I would exercise. As I got older it got worse. After I had my child though it started to become a real problem. I now have these episodes (doesn't matter if I am sitting or exercising) I start sweating and then coughing with shortness of breath and pain in my left front and middle of my back, as well as a feeling that my throat is closing off and my nose starts draining.

green and yellow flem should not be coming up from allergy unless it is stomach acid. Usually allergy is clear mucus. I'm not a doctor but I wonder if it is a bacteria infection. Sorry I don't know the correct answer. Maybe the doctors are correct too. I just personally haven't heard of colored mucus from allergy. Allergy can cause mucus that can lead to bacteria infection too. See another doctor.
In the last three weeks I have had three overt sessions of uncontrollable, without notice, violent vomiting, with excessive mucus and food. I am coughing up excessive mucus every night as well which disturbs my sleep. have been diagnosed (three years back but know now I had them long before) with CFS and FMS and had nearly complete adrenal failure but seem to be back from the edge with it. I thought that I was the only one with this wierd set of symptoms. I have hacked after eating for years now. I have tried to figure out what food I was sensitive to but it seemed like everything bothered me. Finally I realized that I even hacked after something as simple as unsweetened tea. I get this thick phlem at the back of my throat that makes it impossible to even consider lunch meetings or dinner with polite company.
