Avatar f tn excess estrogen, low progesterone, estrogen dominance, obesity, low folate, liver dysfunction, birth control pill side effects and other. Are you on any birth control? Anything unusual with the blood loss, like darker color, thicker & heavier? What is your age? Is it very painful? Any other symptoms? Did you have a hormonal panel in the past? Looking forward to your reply. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn Research has shown 4-hydroxy and 16-hydroxy estrogens to be powerful growth and inflammation promoters, with direct connections to cancer, especially in estrogen-sensitive tissues such as the uterus, cervix, and prostate.7 Obesity is also associated with unfavorable estrogen metabolites.
703031 tn?1398963307 In my case, as far as I remember, the docs never directly related thyroid issues with PCOS, but thyroid issues to hypothyreosis; hypothyreosis to a slow metabolism, a slow metaboism to weight gain, weight gain to obesity, obesity to pre-diabetic issues and PCOS. The thyroid issues have been an incidential finding; I was diagnosed with Hashimoto and was put on L-Thyroxin 50µ. That was 10 years ago; I weighted 50kg, had a small thyroid and no PCOS.
Avatar f tn It's been 3 yrs since I was diagnosed with invasive ductal cancer stage 2 estrogen positive. I did chemo, radiation and had a bilateral along with 13 lymphnodes removed on left side where cancer was. I had my last radiation in april 2008 . I also had a radical hysterectamy. Since then I have had no real teasts done nor do I take any medication. What should I do. Is there some kind of check up I should be having? How will I know if it has come back.
Avatar m tn Hi, Testosterone (T) replacement may not help in high estrogen cases, what may be required in such cases is aromatise inhibitor which blocks conversion of T to estrogen. Your test results does not show LH , SHBG and total T values. High SHBG values can reduce free T levels while not reducing estrogen levels, thus upsetting their balance. SHBG values increases quadruply with obesity in combination with prediabetic conditions.

Avatar n tn There is a small portion of obese people that have serious medical conditions that cause obesity or on medication that causes it, however the majority is the reason stated above. Not only do they overeat but its horrible kinds of food. The portions served in American restaurants are sometimes can contain a day and half worth of calories of a healthy serving size for just one meal!!! Think about someone eating that way 3 times a day. No wonder obesity is an epidemic.
Avatar f tn (sadly, in women who smoke, lung cancer is the most common cancer and is a big killer) Breast cancer is associated with high estrogen stimulation, obesity, and family history. Mammograms are a wonderful and effective screening test for breast cancer. Depending on family history, mammogram screening should start at age 40. Depression is serious, disabling, and occasionally, life threatening, illness. There is no compelling data to suggest that SSRIs are related to breast cancer. .
Avatar n tn Letrozole is an estrogen blocker per se, prevents the conversion of the body's male hormones to estrogen and therefore slows maturation of the bones,It is used in breast cancer and tends to lower the body's estrogen and may raise testosterone levels, it is sometimes used with growth hormone. however it can also affect the liver and use of it is controversial in regards to its true benefit.
Avatar f tn Causes of estrogen dominance include birth control pills, estrogen replacement therapy, stress, poor diet, obesity, xenoestrogens (excess estrogens found in anything from pesticides to plastics). Estrogen dominance can affect conversion of T4 to T3 as well as increase thyroxine binding globulin (if there is too much thyroid binding globulin, thyroid hormone is bound and unable to get into the cells).
1488429 tn?1289222119 A thyroid disorder can be the underlying cause effecting the sense of smell. Also, some medicaions. But you should see your doctor as the condition can be a serious health condition. A smell disorder can be an early sign of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, or multiple sclerosis. It can also accompany or be a sign of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and malnutrition. Hope this helps. Thanks for your question, and if you have any followup questions you are welcome to respond.
Avatar n tn If your kids have an increased risk for high cholesterol (i.e. obesity) it would be reasonable to measure the cholesterol, to define how aggressive has to be the intervention. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I have also read soy has phytoestrogen (estrogenic activity) so it will add to the already elevated levels of estrogen in the body of a PCOS sufferer, so it should be avoided. On the contrary some articles say that soy is good as it has estrogenic activity and would block the excess estrogen receptors in PCOS). Please advice. 2. Can I consume milk and egg white?
Avatar f tn Hi, Even with a total hysterectomy, the body will still produce some estrogen which is effectively blocked with an aromatase inhibitor (such as arimidex,Femara etc). In one study, aromatase inhibitors were found to offer greater benefit than tamoxifen in Post- menopausal women.Tamoxifen blocks the estrogen especially to the breast tissue. This is an important distinction because aromatase inhibitors cannot be used in Pre- menopausal women.
