Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen in the pill

Avatar n tn Yes, it's normal. The lower estrogen pills usually cause break through bleeding.
Avatar m tn Endometriosis feed off estrogen. The estrogen-dependent endo lesions, if left unchecked, will begin to create their own estrogen. I do want to clarify that the pill or any other form of HRT does not prevent the Endometriosis from growing. The reason it is used is to help stop the pain by stopping the periods. I was on a low dose BCP (Marvelon) for 8 yrs continuously and did help with my pain. However it still continued to grow even after deep excision surgery.
Avatar f tn I assume this is based on the fairly well established observation that pregnant women often (though certainly not always) experience a reduction in or absence of MS symptoms which seem to return, sometimes intensely, after delivery. As contraceptive pills work by suppressing ovulation (in effect making the body think it's already pregnant), this may be where he's coming from. But... this is a GP. He is not a neurologist, much less an MS specialist.
Avatar m tn go back to the doctor it is not the pill for you. Had same thing happen to me. They will simply change it and what a difference a pill makes.
Avatar f tn can i take the mini-pill or the depo-provera injection even if i am taking other medicines such as pristiq, clonazepam, and tenoretic for high blood pressure?
Avatar f tn After the last laparoscopy the doctor told me that the endo. was gone and put me on the pill as a prevenative measure. However, the pill really exacerabated my migraines and made me quite depressed so I stopped taking it. Immediately after, the frequency of my migraines lessened but since, the frequency has increased greatly. I am now worried that this may be a sign that the endo. has returned.
Avatar n tn Taking any type of estrogen can cause you to need an increase in thyroid hormone meds.

Avatar f tn LoEstrogen is a lowered amount of Estrogen as you can probably guess by the name. Spotting in not uncommon when taking the pill, especially when you are new to taking it, within the first 6 months up to a year, and for some even the whole time they take it. However, also missing pills and or taking them at not the same time everyday, (for some this means exactly the same time each day) can cause more spotting and a decrease in efficacy with the pill. At best, there is a 92-99.
Avatar n tn Last year, I was on the birth control pill (Marvelon 21) to regulate my periods which I had a lack of due to low estrogen levels because of, mainly, being overweight. I have not been on the pill since July 2007. I am just wondering, is it possible to become pregnant if I have not had my period for the past 4 to 5 months? Also, will I have difficulty in the future to get pregnant having such irregular menstrual cycles and taking the birth control pill so excessively?
5134931 tn?1364117023 But the problem is, yesterday I took the 12th which is correct and the second pill is the 27th pill instead of the 13th! And so far, yesterday I wasn't able to have a contact with my husband. If you can provide relevant answer and advice, that would be much appreciated. I don't want to get pregnant again at this time! Thank you all in advance!
Avatar f tn This is a non-cancerous condition which results when portions of the breast gland grow abnormally large because of excessive sensitivity to estrogen (the female hormone) stimulation. Cancer usually appears as solid masses or calcified nodules, not cysts, which are fluid-containing lumps. Fibrocystic disease is not "normal", but it doesn't usually cause problems other than intermittent discomfort and pain particularly as menstruation approaches.
266539 tn?1281402152 There is a BC pill that is progesterone only, I don't know brands but I took it while I was breastfeeding because estrogen can affect milk supply. It has a slightly higher failure rate than the estrogen/progesterone pill, but is still highly effective if taken at the same time every day. Condoms are another option.
938326 tn?1300878804 You definitely do not want to go on the shot if you are looking for something that is not long lasting. Been there done that, and it can take a long time to get out of your system. I only tried the ring for two months. I bled the entire time I was on it! When you say you cannot take the pill are you referring to combination pills or all pills? I cannot take combination pills (pills with both estrogen & progesterone), but I can take the mini pill (progesterone only pill).
Avatar n tn It makes sense to go with a low estrogen dose since you want to supress the estrogen levels in your body to control the growth of the endo. It's been so long since I was on bc pills I can't even remember what I took, but I do remember that it helped my pain. One thing to consider is that if you think you may want to TTC in a year you may be best served not even starting the pills since it's recommended that you are off of them for about 6 months before trying.
Avatar f tn Anyway I have been doing alot of research and stumbled across a condition called Estrogen Dominance which can be caused by the Birth Control Pill and how Estrogen Dominance can affect the thyroid. http://outsmartdisease.com/how-estrogen-dominance-can-ruin-your-thyroid-health/ I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on this? and if anyone has gone through the same thing.
17075101 tn?1453495395 Hello, It could be a combination of the "mini pill" and the alcohol causing the reaction. I would call your pharmacist and ask about certain side-effects and if this is possible. I know that some hormones (including the "pill" can cause headaches, especially if you already have an over-abundance of Estrogen in you, called "Estrogen Dominance" That, too, can cause headaches, so, like I said, ask the pharmacist and even your doctor.
280418 tn?1306325910 t been on the pill in years). I started the pill (Yaz) this Jan. and now the migraines have really increased in frequency. I stopped the pill last night to see if they at least decrease in frequency. Does any research support an increase/onset of migraines with taking the pill? I am very tired of the migraines! Thank you in advance for any insight! PS...
284738 tn?1283106819 You get what is called break through ovulation, it may be a small chance, but yes you can ovulate, the bad part about it, is if you do ovualte and do get prego like i did, what happends is the other things that are in the pill as a back up if you do ovulate wind up makin you miscarry. Or having a chemical pregnancy. Meaning the preg didnt really take.
1273473 tn?1270775840 s what happened to me because prior to tx, I was on the pill to stop my period. I quit taking it straight through (skip the sugar pill week) and it never came back. Might have just went through the change early. I really wasn't surprised when it didn't come back when I quit the pill, which was right before tx began because I read on this forum that one woman's came back at age 55, 3 yrs after she went through menopause. What a horrible thought.
7172456 tn?1403092946 Is it safe to take the contraceptive pill while breast feeding.. I want to start on it straight After I have bub but I intend on breast feeding.. Is this ok?
Avatar f tn I actually had trouble with the pill as my lactation (ugh, really NOT cool when you are a single girl with no children . . . LOL) was due to too much estrogen and many pills are estrogen based. So, you'd have to talk to your doctor to see which pill if any would work in the situation of a hormonal imbalance.
Avatar m tn Systemic estrogen therapy — by pill, patch or gel — can have a positive effect on brain function and mood factors that affect sexual response. Local estrogen therapy — in the form of a vaginal cream or a slow-releasing suppository or ring that you place in your vagina — can increase blood flow to the vagina and help improve desire. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe a combination of estrogen and progesterone.
Avatar n tn (YAY) My hormones were unaffected by the ablasion. But I was already in the process of menopause in the first place, so I still had to (have to - still in menopause) deal with that. My sister opted for a hysterectomy. She dealt with the sudden menopause at first with human hormones. That was expensive, though, and she eventually went cold turkey and let her body get used to no estrogen. The baloon ablasion was not bad at all. In retrospect, I might have chosen to have a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn My tests show I have low estrogen (also taking birth control pill), decreased cortisol in the morning and increased at night and elevated DHEA. I'm just baffled as to why I am sweating so much. Should I get treated for the estrogen or should they level out once my thyroid is fixed? I am taking natural supplements for my adrenals and might want to try HC but I have heard not so good stories about it. Are there natural adrenal meds or how should I go abouts treating it?
Avatar m tn Whew, trying to follow that. So, you are not taking a break in between pill packs to get the induced sugar pill (cessation of hormones) spotting? I'd probably not do that to be honest. It's not like a real period but rather some spotting. Usually not that heavy. I'm not sure what is going except that you seem to be out of balance hormonally. This can happen--- perhaps the kind of pill you are on isn't a great fit for you.
