Avatar m tn During the peri-menopausal years (the 10 to 15 years before menopause) and menopause (menopause means one year with no periods), it is common for women to suffer a multitude of hormonal complaints. Hot flashes, night sweats and sleep disturbances are common complaints during this time in a woman's life. Most would think these symptoms are associated with a decline in estrogen, but they are also hallmark symptoms of low thyroid, especially night sweats and insomnia.
440728 tn?1234645302 Balance it out by asking your doctor for the highest dosage of estrogen and progesterone and take a quarter at first... then regulate it based on your cycle if you are regular and if you're not, you'll soon know.
5618825 tn?1371044135 Never had sleep problems before until getting menopause. I take now 2 days of 1/2 pill of estrogen red pill and every 2 days medroxy progesterone. I hadn't taken it for quite a long time but started again after reading it prevents thickening of walls. I awake around 3 and have a hard time sleeping. I started taking on the shelf after midnight. This works for 4 hrs now I am wondering about melatonin. I tried two 5mg at 3 and couldn't sleep at all. Finally did at 6. Guess was too much.
Avatar f tn I take it for panic attacks. I heard low estrogen levels can cause migraines, anxiety and night sweats. Do they do check this in a regular blood test? I'm not sure I have ever had this checked out. I had everything else checked...I am just so fed up with this I don't nkow what to do anymore. What medications has anyone been on to help them with this?
587083 tn?1327120262 Since menopause,I have consumed some natural product containing some kind of estrogen to control the night sweating, hot flashes.I drank milk made of soy,ate soy beans and tofu. Could this be the cause that my mammogram was abnormal?I have to have another mammogram and an ultrasound at the end of this month. am very worried and don't know what to think anymore.Maybe the natural things I ate, containing estrogen is the cause that I might have cancer?
Avatar f tn I was thinking of Premarin or some other doctor-prescribed estrogen cream for the vagina. I wasn't thinking of Wild Yam cream or anything like that. You might just see if your doc thinks you would get the effectiveness of estrogen without so many mood swings if you were on a cream instead of a pill.
Avatar f tn I have had the pellet implants for 6 years. Don't give up. They are the best thing I've ever used for HRT. Any form of estrogen can cause bloating. It should even out in time. Ask your doctor for Spironolactone. It's a mild diuretic that also helps the testosterone in your body. I know many women on pellets that use it, myself included. What dosage of estrogen and testosterone did you get? What were your lab numbers? Hang in there!
Avatar f tn Do they even have over-the-counter estrogen? Mine (for IVF purposes) was all by prescription.
Avatar f tn Went to my gyno today to have some blood drawn to see where I'm at with the whole menopause thing. Started having hot flashes after upping my Cytomel dosage and both docs want to see if it's hormones or the cytomel. My gyno said that since I have no uterus she'd like to start me on estrogen if my labs show that I'm in perimenopause. I don't know why but I thought that if you didn't have a thyroid you weren't supposed to take estrogen. What is the protocol for this?
Avatar f tn My previous doctor tried me in Effexor instead of estrogen for extreme menopausal symptoms and migraines because the clinic now refuses to prescribe estrogen to anyone. I had been on low dose (.25 mg) estrogen every other day over 25 years since I had to have a hysterectomy when I was in my 30s. On Effexor I could not even function. I could only work for a few minutes at a time and then would feel exhausted and unable to concentrate so I had to lie down. I cried all the time.
414018 tn?1268611672 Terrific story! Thanks. : ) And thanks for all your hard work. Is your OVCA estrogen-dependent? Have you asked your doctor about taking anti-estrogen medication? I'm on one called Aromasin. It kills up to 95% of the estrogen in your body. I'm hoping it works for OVCA; it's in clinical trials for it now (it's used for breast cancer at the moment.) And hey, at least you're entering menopause as your winter is approaching in Australia. Happy hot flashes!
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi, I'm on a HRT (Vivelle-Dot) but I'm also a limbolander, but I might be of some help. I was put on Vivelle-Dot after loosing all my hormones due to a hysterectomy. Both Vivelle-Dot and Climara seem to contain estradiol (a form of estrogen bioidentical to your body's own). In the summer, I have been on this med for a year. I was put on this med right after my last form of hormone was removed (which was one ovary by this point).
Avatar m tn s body is different so what delivery route (pill, patch, gel, vaginal ring) and dosage works for one may not work for another. But the generic Estrace works well for me and is a $4/$10 prescription (without insurance). Hope this helps and I hope you can find something that helps you quickly. Hysterectomy can also affect thyroid function so just something to keep in mind as you may want to have a thyroid panel done at some point.
Avatar f tn I know that it is best to take the lowest dosage that gives me relief of my symptoms to decrease my risks of cancer. For the past 6 months, I have been taking half the dosage prescribed initially. I am taking estrogel 0.06% 1 pump daily and prometrium 200 mg. every second day, since my pharmacy only supplies the prometrium in 200 mg gel capsules which I cannot cut in half. I have remained symptom free.
Avatar n tn I had chosen the free trial but when I started to have problems the company suggested that I double my dosage and it was pure hell. Because I doubled my dosage, I no longer qualified for the free trial and now had to pay for a product that not only did not work for me but actually made my symptoms worse. I have since found out that I am estrogen dominant and that perhaps is the problem. I am currently on bio-identicals and all of my menopause symptoms are gone.
161647 tn?1280608163 Had problems with cycle 2 years ago, but estrogen was normal. Figure now it was thyroid issue. As I write this my cycle is late and I "could be" starting peri-menopause...ugh...thyroid and menopause symptoms mimic each other, its so hard to tell.
Avatar f tn You can also use a good, over the counter cream, I am talking about Progesterone by the way, it will help to alleviate the estrogen dominance and get those hormones back in balance. Hardly anyone needs extra estrogen, our bodies still make it even after menopause, just not as much, the progesterone will use what your body makes and help balance it out, there is no cancer risk with natural hormones either, with synthetic, that is a different story.
437027 tn?1670266352 Some find surgical menopause difficult. Some people sail through it no problem. You can be put on an Estrogen patch, but if you have had a cancer diagnosis that is not always an option. I can't tell you about my personal experience with it, as I am just a "left over" from the old days when this forum was for everyone and I am well aware that I am not welcome here, as I, thankfully, was fortunate to receive a benign diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Although it has been used with carrying success for years because of its ability to act like estrogens and bind to estrogen receptors, there is an extremely high concern for allergic responses, poor quality control and limited efficacy.
1033165 tn?1309435416 Also, what is the age for getting check for osteoperosis? I am 44, very thin and I smoke. Should I be checked sooner for this along with the history of the ablation 3 years ago?
Avatar n tn Maybe you could check a book on natural remedies -- I think I did see one specifically about natural remedies for menopause symptoms a while back. It kind of was tough to read (who wants to believe these things are really going to happen?) but it seems like I remember it talked about foods and supplements and stuff.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for the information. Unfortunately the lab did not break down my estrogen separately. From what you said, would you say my total estrogen is high? Should I get a second opinion or retest in a month? And is it safe for me to assume I'm far from menopause? Thanks for your time and help!! I'm a little lost and new to all this.
Avatar f tn The doctor put me on estrogen as soon as I had it for estrogen replacement therapy. Now two years after having no symptoms or problems at all, I have almost every symptom of going through menopause except the hot flashes. I don't have hot flashes, I sweat all the time. Can't sleep.
Avatar f tn s because the estrogen level goes down at menopause, hence the estrogen no longer protects you as well against the virus...when some of these women supplemented with estrogen, they seemed to do better...oh well, I'll go look for it, some people are picky, come back later...lol....
