Avatar f tn of norepinephrine in the striatum (and other areas) of the brain. One of the common drugs is Stretarra which is used to treat ADD/ADHD. Previously, amphetamines were used to increase dopamine levels in the brain. Rather than messing with the dopamine levels, Stretarra prevents the reuptake of norepinephrine and attempts to regulate the dopamine/norepinephrine balance that way. Not sure if this helps or not.
Avatar f tn s or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and SNRIs, serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors do not actually increase the amount of serotonin molecules in the brain. SSRI’s are thought to block the reabsorption (reuptake) of serotonin by certain nerve cells in the brain. This theoretically leaves more serotonin available in the brain. However if you have low serotonin to begin with these medications either will not work well, or work for a while then "poop out".
Avatar f tn High level of glutamate could lead to depression and OCD. High levels of norepinephrine is linked to anxiety and stress and low levels to fatigue. Finally a lack of serotonin could cause all the symptoms mentioned above. Diet, hormones and estrogen levels have key roles in regulating all those neurotransmitters. So doing physical activities, having a healthy diet, getting enough sleep will help.
Avatar m tn You don't say why you're taking the alpha blocker, and you're posting in the anxiety forum but taking Cymbalta, which is usually used for primary depression rather than primary anxiety as its effects on norepinephrine you're talking about can be very stimulating -- intentionally so to get depressed people going again but can cause anxiety because of this. None of us on here are pharmacologists, so this is a question for your psychiatrist or perhaps a pharmacist.
Avatar m tn TCA agents are predominantly serotonin and/or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. Serotonin deficiency causes numerous symptoms but includes chronic pain (eg: headaches, backaches, fibromyalgia).

Avatar m tn I have to go off of Cymbalta because of side effects. The norepinephrine part was helping tremendously. Any way to help get the good stuff naturally. I would wake at a regular time like clock work. I had a sense of cognitive clarity that I did not have on Celexa.
886699 tn?1270779744 POTS- one of the criteria listed by a doctor w/Vanderbilt is a standing norepinephrine of over 600. Norepinephrine is a hormone and neurotransmitter, so it definitely can have an affect on that one!
Avatar f tn Desvenlafaxine ( Pristiq ) is a novel form of the isolated major active metabolite of venlafaxine, and is categorized as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It works by blocking the transporter "reuptake" proteins for key neurotransmitters affecting mood, thereby leaving more active neurotransmitters in the synapse. The neurotransmitters affected are serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline).
1438638 tn?1304946457 Depending on your symptoms, you might ask for aldosterone, renin, angiotensin II, and dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. All of these can be done by an endo and all are implicated in various AD symptoms. Be sure the endo tests all thyroid hormones, not just TSH and T4. Good luck on Thursday!
653169 tn?1303446369 My doc recently changed me from prozac to Savella since I have alot of muscular, nerve, and joint pains. I stopped the Savella because it was making me feel faint and just weird and on top of it did not help my depression, but it did stop my nerve (including sciatica type pains). Has anyone else had similar side effects with Savella and is it possible to take prozac with Savella?
Avatar n tn He is slurring words, falling over, and just out of it. I didn;t think the cymbalta would have that effect immediately since it should take awhile to enter into his system., I was on 60 mg of cymbalta, as well with xanax and although it made me tired I was not in the shape he is in. What do you think could be the problem? Is it too high of a dose to begin with? Is he taking too many miligrams of valium? I believe he takes 10mg pills. The first day he took 3 valiums with the cymbalta.
190673 tn?1259203266 I am quitting effexor (slowly but surely) and am down to 50 mg from 150. The only problem I have is depressed mood which my shrink says is a withdrawal symptom. I plan to be med free as long as I can and if I have to get back on meds ever again (been on them for 11 years continuously) it will be lexapro first because I used to take celexa and it was working better than others. My doctor said if I get too depressed to start lexapro right away. He gave me samples.
Avatar f tn can depression cause migraines and is that because there is a lack of norepinephrine ??
Avatar n tn Trams is a weak u-opioid receptor agonist. It is a serotonin releaser and a reuptake inhibitor of norepinephrine..It is a SNRI..also. There fore it is like taking 2 meds in one. I am not sure I really understand..Why or What!
Avatar n tn Namaste, Cymbalta is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs). Cymbalta works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine), which helps to improve certain mood problems. Cymbalta is used to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder. It is also used to treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy).
Avatar m tn t work the same for men, and DHEA is not to be taken indefinitely since it is an estrogen precursor. Also found some of the items from your list helpful, but have not tried immersion in cold water because of severe cold intolerance. Exercise helps me, too, but I wake up the next AM feeling like I was hit by a truck--I gather this is called exercise intolerance or sensitivity or some such thing.
787406 tn?1339203183 My Endocrinologist ran another Plasma Norepinephrine test and my level was 1129. Previously it had been 1042. Can stress cause this? My Endo is saying that stress is responsible for it being extremely high. My cortisol level was normal at 6.
Avatar n tn It started with body temperature discomfort, then progressed to night sweats and hot flashes, although I had been comfortable on ERT for 14 years. Because of a CLL diagnosis I had to go off estrogen. The hot flashes were intense and nearly hourly day and night so I went back on ERT. Of course by then my sleep patterns were much worse. My hot flashes are now looked after by the ERT but the sleep problems aren’t.
Avatar f tn s experiences were, but the electrophysiologist who diagnosed me did not even mention doing a standing norepinephrine test and I had not been having POTS symptoms for very long when I was diagnosed. He told me it usually comes out in the third decade in life and can be hereditary. I later learned I have a second cousin who suffers from POTS as well. I read about the norepinephrine criteria in an article, but haven't gotten that standing blood test.
Avatar m tn The Cymbalta only affects the seratonin and norepinephrine and still has the sexual side effects that I very much DISLIKE. Should I call my doctor back and suggest the wellbutrin and zoloft? or try the cymbalta?
969132 tn?1249324251 I recommend you get your norepinephrine tested, including standing and a fasting plasma free metanephrines (inactive metabolites of catecholamines epinephrine and norepinephrine and helpful toward ruling out pheochromocytoma). High norepinephrine I've read, can actually cause a panic attack. Norepinephrine is part of the autonomic nervous system and is not controlled by emotion.
4703993 tn?1379768388 Syncope while supine Sudden loss of consciousness occurred in 4 patients while being monitored in the supine position. At baseline, arterial plasma concentrations of norepinephrine (1.3 ± 0.2 nmol/L) and epinephrine (0.29 ± 0.09 nmol/L) were normal (1.3 ± 0.1 nmol/L in 77 normal volunteers and 0.34 ± 0.03 nmol/L in 45 normal volunteers). During spontaneous loss of consciousness, all 4 patients had an increase in plasma epinephrine levels (mean 3.

Avatar f tn However, I know Wellbutrin works differently than other antidepressants because it affects Norepinephrine and Dopamine levels versus Serotonin (like with most other antidepressants and/or anti anxiety meds). Increases in Norepinephrine and Dopamine would most likely cause more anxiety. They are the same receptors affected when you take stimulants, such as Adderall or Cocaine. I've never understood why doctors prescribe Wellbutrin to patients experiencing anxiety.
