Avatar n tn It isnt worth it for me to go off the anti depressants either because it will just make me gain more weight and incredibly depressed. All i can say is ask your doctor.
Avatar f tn Thanks, prozac and escitalopram and setraline never gave me weight gain but made my pulse race. I am now quite scared to try others. I was on 40mg citalopram for 12 years and put on over 3 stones with it in that time. I am trying a low dose 10mg to see if itll help me but not cause the weight gain.
Avatar f tn I was on it a good few years, then put on citalopram with subsequent major weight gain. Then trazodone which gave me palpatations as did escitalopram and had problems with others too, and prozac gave me weight gain too. Been on antidepressants 16 years or more, trying herbal antidepressants but losing my battle as my depression extremely bad just now and my fast pulse and palpatations are returning.
Avatar f tn I was on it for 3 years and also started to gain weight. My doctor told me to excercise more, but I ended up changing docs and was switched over to Cymbalta and less side effects, no weight gain and geberally I feel a lot better. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Be aware though, Mirtazapine does cause weight gain, and high blood pressure, I gained 40 lbs in 7 months, my bp went from normal to high range.
Avatar m tn showed that people with elevated cortisol levels are associated with increased appetite, cravings for sugar and weight gain. However, elevated cortisol due to temporary stress will not likely cause weight gain.
415867 tn?1323365503 Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar.
Avatar f tn I have recently been prescribed Cipralex (Lexapro) and was wondering if anyone could tell me how effective this medication is in treating depression/anxiety. Have you found it helpful and has it caused side effects such as weight gain and insomnia? I've heard it's a weight neutral antidepressant but the label says weight gain is one of the most frequent side effects.
Avatar m tn Began this earlier this year and frightened the living death of me with regards to my weight as found that in the beginning that i did put on some extra pounds very quickly (6-8 pounds) over 2-4 weeks. I did find myself graving more sweeter stuff initially and i just felt never full during this time hence my double wammy feeling of what actually was going on with me with this medication.
135456 tn?1301437624 I just started lexapro and dr told me to take mild Xanax with it at bed time the first night I had terrible nightmares. I don't know what to do. I'm on 5 ml gram lexapro and .25 Xanax.
Avatar n tn Just wondering if anybody here has ever taken Domperidone and Escitalopram. It says in the Domperidone leaflet not to take the two medications together, and some quick research online says there is a severe interaction between the two medicines. Despite this my doctor has prescribed them both to me. 30mg of Domperidone a day + 20mg of Escitalopram a day. Should I consult with my doctor about this or will I be fine? Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn After taking Celexa, I graduated to a new and better version called Lexapro. This was about 2 years ago. Recently, with my AFib issues, both my cardiologist and family doctor have taken issue with it. I'm unclear why and will ask them after I get my cardiovesion, but I think it is a "mood elevator" and with my heart thumping all the time anyway, the last thing I need is to take something that makes it go faster. I will have a more definitive answer for you soon.
Avatar f tn re on several drugs, it appears, and it might be interacting with one or more of them. But generally, remeron is so sedating and induces people to eat so much and gain so much weight that my psychiatrist rarely uses it except with geriatric patients who have stopped eating. If you're using a general doc for this, perhaps see a psychiatrist who is more familiar with these meds. Also, diagnoses of various bipolar disorders is a controversial area of mental health care.
698408 tn?1256958348 I and other people have found Lamictal to be more tolerable and it does not cause weight gain and generally not cognitive confusion. You could ask about Lamictal. For information google "Depression Central" (it has information about all mood disorders and mood stabilizers).
Avatar m tn The R-enantiomer present in citalopram counteracts the activity of the S-enantiomer, thereby providing a possible basis for the pharmacological and clinical differences observed between citalopram and escitalopram.
Avatar n tn I have another question(as I mentioned in my first post) - Will the weight gain stabilize after a point or will it keep going up and up and up?
Avatar f tn I had to do a fast taper from a cousin of Escitalopram and it was not fun. I was cut down from 20mgs (doctor recommended taper) within three days for a drug study I volunteered for. I realize now that was not the smart thing to do. Try asking your doctor about something like Clonazepam. It's a benzo like Xanax however I found it to be less addicting than xanax--which should only be used for short term. To be honest, I wouldn't try Xanax at all. Don't chance it.
Avatar f tn I don't know if your doc has discussed with you Xanax or something like it to take when you have a severe bout of anxiety. I use it and it works very well with no side effects. Take it as needed. It can be slightly addictive. The docs have me on it 3 times a day, but because I need it and am not on anything else at the moment.
Avatar f tn I was also taking escitalopram (10) and resperidone (2 mg) since last few years. I have read that mostly everyone gaining weight while on these medications. I hope some one who have reduced their weight could comment on this. I have committed myself for a 25 kg weight reduction goal, for the next 20 months. Maybe by following a strict regimen of activities I could put off the weight i gained.
