Common Questions and Answers about Effexor results

effexor

Avatar n tn I have a few questions~ two years ago I began experiencing some rapid heart beats so my doctor put me on a 24 hr holtor monitor and results came back with one episode of what "may represent" atrial firbrillation. I was sent to a cardiologist. He did the blood work and an echocardiogram ~ all came back normal so he started me on Verapamil. Verapamil worked fine until recently when it seemed not to be working at all. Doctor swtiched me to Cardizem~ could not take it~ made me sick.
Avatar n tn You may want to consider a different combo. Effexor no longer works for me either and Welbuterin never did. I am currently taking a Tri-cyclic Antidepressant (Nortriptilyne) and I have to say it's really been working pretty good over the last year or so. I wore myself out on all the SSRI's and have found this older Tri-Cyclic to work much better. The side effects aren't really much different either. I am also taking 30Mgs of Lexapro per day, just for that little extra punch.
Avatar m tn Hello there, I stopped taking Effexor about 2 years ago and was on it for about almost 3 years. I was on 150mg daily and as I can recall I believe it helped out a lot with my anxiety. My question now is that my doc has prescibed me Effexor again since I'm going through hard times with anxiety and mild depression, would it still be effective as it was before? Since I've taken it before, will I experience the same results, side effects etc? Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Hello, I was on Effexor 150mg for two years and then took myself of it. My depression returned, and my doctor has put me back on it as he says as it helped me before, and as it suited me, it will help me again. It took eight weeks to feel any improvement this time, but now I can honestly say my depression, anxiety and panics are gone. I think it is a magic pill, and will stay on it as long as it helps me. I do hope you benefit like me. Good luck, and take care.
Avatar n tn I have been on effexor for the last 4 years with great results i never wanted to go off. but heres the problem. i am 5 weeks pregnant with my second child, and my psych took me off the effexor cold turkey and put me on zoloft. well my depression and anxiety has returned with a vengence, i can't even function to take care of my 4 year old. this is causing great stress to my marriage, my husband wants to take my son to my inlaws until i get better.
Avatar f tn Anyone had good results from switching from effexor (venlafaxine) to fluoxetine (prozac).
700212 tn?1240760820 I dont drink or smoke..the only med I take is effexor and sometimes some motrin....So I dont know...hopefully my doc can figure it out!..
Avatar f tn Mind you I have also read that some doctors prescribe Effexor for menopausal sweats, which seems strange to me as Effexor can cause sweats in some people. Let us know how you get on. I am so sorry about your chronic pain.
Avatar f tn at this moment I stopped the effexor and the doctor gave me cortisone because I have exams and it takes about 6 weeks for the effexor to kick in.. and it would have been too long.. the cortisone helps a little bit more on short term.. but in two weeks I'm gonna start effexor again.. I can't wait now that I have seen your post.. I have the same issues.. neurocardiogenic syncope.. pacing heart... high blood pressure.. low blood pressure.. damnn.. It's like going through hell..
Avatar m tn Some antidepressants have been successfully used for pain. Cymbalta is commonly prescribed for pain and Effexor has shown promise in studies for pain. Some of the older Tricyclic antidepressants like Imipramine have had good results on pain. I have never heard of Zoloft being used for pain however. I suppose it could possibly work by the way it increases synaptic levels of dopamine but Zoloft is only a weak dopamine re-uptake inhibitor.
1102732 tn?1257823629 Hello there, Klonopin is used on a relatively short term. There is no sane doctor that will go for a 6 months treatment with a benzodiazepine like Klonopin. Klonopin is good to control panic attack when they happens but you can't take this for a long term treatment. Effexor was the drug to use for a long term treatment. I might also suggest you try Cymbalta. It's a SNRI like Effexor but it's newer and from the same maker of Effexor.
Avatar m tn I was told everything was normal. The route that I was told to try was a to depressants. So, I was on Effexor, that never quite worked. I had several side effects from using it, and it caused me to have insomnia, which the doctor then prescribed sleeping pills. The episodes still occurred while I was taking Effexor. It helped at first, and then it stopped working. So, now I'm off of the Effexor and sleeping pills, and I had severe withdrawals from both medications.
Avatar m tn I have been on effexor for two years and I can tell you without insurrance it is not cheap. Also it is one of the hardest drugs to withdraw off. I also was on citolapram but my doctor pulled me off it when he saw alot of mood change and weight gain. But then I was on both effexor and citolapram, highest doses each. This could of had some effect. I have been off both 8 months and the withdrawls are alful. I asked my doctor about it and he told me it was the effexor.
Avatar f tn On the molecular level it is very much like Effexor, but just different enough that some people that have become resisatent to Effexor have noticed this Pristiq drug working because it just different enough that resistance has not been built to it. It's an SNRI that is much different than Cymbalta, but closer to Effexor with less reported side effects. May be worth trying.
Avatar m tn hi bob, i was on effexor for five years, 75mgs, your dosage sounds a little high but i guess it depends on your height and weight. yes, the effexor could be giving you blurry vision, your body is trying to get used to it. if it continues just ask your dr. about it. stay sober, don't drink while your taking these meds, i'm sure your dr. told you that. my prayers are with you, it will get better if you stick to it and look towards the future.
Avatar f tn 5 mg and it was the best thing for my anxiety. I was very happy with the results I achieved on the Effexor. I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder.
Avatar f tn I was supposed to take them together but I ran out of effexor, and I was waiting a week to get another appointment with my doctor, and now I think the effexor is out of my system. Luckily I didn't have any withdrawal when I stopped, but perhaps its because I started Wellburtin right away. Wellburtin has,has increased my anxiety A LOT. Made my insomnia worse and side affects are worse than effexor. BUT i've only been on it for a week.
Avatar m tn Hi all, I am on Effexor 187.5mg for 9months now for depressiom and Klonopin for panic attacks...Recently my depression has come back like a lead pipe. All the great symptoms...fear of facing life, loss of interest, loss of motivation, its like I just want to lay in bed all day. I HATE feeling this way! DOes my Effexor need a MG adjustment? Lucky I see my doc in a week. Any feedback, anyone who has similar experience is welcomed.
Avatar f tn hi was just wondering if the meds i'm on are for me or not??? i'm on 20mg prozac week 4 and 2 days and have been off effexor 17days The reason for the change in meds was effexor wasn't working for me even tho it has done before .I do feel i'v picked up at little but after a 7/8 hours night sleep feel tired and not rested at all. I'm yawning alot have bad diarrhea and feel anxious most of the time and haven't got that happy feeling like i used to have.
1665434 tn?1365238898 Most Drs recommend giving these meds 6 weeks unless there are such terrible side effects that you can't tolerate them. You've been on this med for 5 weeks and you're feeling even worse on top of the eye twitching. I would recommend seeing your Dr to get off Effexor and to try something different. I do think it's a possibility that the eye twitching is from this med.
