I have this one spot on my scalp that itches like crazy. I have always had dry scalp, but lately it's gotten much worse. It's red and sore and nothing I have tried has worked. I've tried tea tree hair and scalp treatment, and a special shampoo. Is there anything that will help with the itching until I can get into a doctor?

It can be due to dandruff, eczema or fungal infection. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales.
Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.

My skin was extremely dry I tried coconut oil tummyy butter aveeno lotion and baby oil nothing helped so I started using something called "mothers friend" it works amazing got it from a local pharmacy but it can be ordered online and is only $8. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water also it helps. For my hair ive been using mane and tail horse shampoo.
yes, it was the worse SE for me. I did everything that uriah1 did plus some. It was awful. I made my skin bleed from scratching so much and my scalp had sores on it. After I ended tx, it all went away. Antihistamines helped the most.

I am on week 11 of treatment, interferon and riba, about 2 weeks ago, my scalp started to get very itchy, I have used a variety of different shampoos for dandruff, none seem to work on helping the itch. I am a licensed cosmetologist and let me tell you; dandruff is caused by a FUNGUS. Dry skin & dandruff are two completely unrelated hair diseases. I have experienced exactly what you are going through right now and you must treat it as dry skin not dandruff. Selsun blue won't do you any good because it contains a medication used for treating the dandruff fungus. Head and shoulders may help because it is targeted for dry, itchy scalp.
Thanks for the info! I have tried some of the shampoos with salicylic acid or coal tar - all it did was make my scalp worse- sort of firery sore and super itchy. that's why I think its dry scalp and not dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis - the symptoms just don't fit. my hair and scalp are dry, not greasy - even if i go 3 days between shampoos my hair is not greasy. the flakes are small and white and not oily.
