Avatar m tn Hi i am a 26 yr old male. i have a moderately itchy scalp that gets oily by the end of the day & have occasional acne on the scalp. also i have significant hair loss due to it.Recently, i have noticed more frequent occurrence of acne on my face & rarely on my chest & back. i wash my hair everyday with a mild shampoo to remove the oiliness. it just doesn't seem to help. i somehow feel the itchy scalp, acne & facial acne are related.
Avatar f tn My scalp is very red, slightly smelly and itchy, however it is only down the centre part of my hair. In addition, I am losing handfuls of hair every time I wash it. I have tried oral antibiotics, topical antifungals, corticosteriods, coconut oil, Head & Shoulders shampoo for itchy scalp, Nizoral shampoo and Neutrogena Tar shampoo, however, nothing has improved my scalp. It started about five months ago and it is getting more severe.
Avatar f tn I'm 31 wks pregnant with my first boy and my scalp is so dry and so itchy. Its uncomfortable and its drivin me insane!! I am constantly itchin and scratchin, ive heard from others that durin their pregnancies with boys, they dealt with the same thing. What about you all? And any suggestions? Ive tried a dry scalp shampoo and it eased the itchin for just a short period of time.
Avatar f tn I am on minocycline and it says some stuff about peoples skin being itchy but not very much about scalp itching. It is mostly on the back of my head. I dont know if it is lice or anything else. It is really annoying. Any help?
Avatar n tn Try using t gel by neutrogena, that does sound like psorosis. T gel is very helpful, and it's not expensive I use it because I get acne on my scalp from using hair spray And it works wonders even though it is made for psorosis. It's main ingredient is coal tar so it doesn't smell pleasant but it's worth a try. Also if you had lice you'd see it crawling.
Avatar n tn In short, I regard the two conditions as separate and unrelated. Acne itself does not affect the scalp. In my experience, many cases of scalp folliculitis are stress-related. Unless a culture actually shows staph germs, I would be skeptical that these bacteria are playing any role here. If a topical antibiotic doesn't help, perhaps a topical steroid might. Ask your dermatologist. Also, be sure never to scratch any of the spots, since that perpetuates the problem. Take care. Dr.
Avatar f tn I have no scaling or dandruff symptoms, just BURNING, red and EXTREMELY INTENSE itchy scalp. I was given some sort of steroid (can't remember the name of it) that is a foam consistency (like moose). She seemed more concerned about my knees, which turned out to be Granuloma Annulare. I have severe allergies to all trees and grass. Not sure if that would cause the scalp issues though. The scalp issues started around Thanksgiving or Christmas (I think).
Avatar n tn I have very itchy and puss filled 'spots' only in my hair. I have been reading around and am trying to find out if this is acne, folliculitis or something else. The marks are puss filled and then crust over. They seem to be never ending as Ive had them for years with no real change. Ive used lots of different shampoos and conditioners so I don't think they are chemically related. I keep clean hair washing 2 or three times a week so I don't think its poor hygene or over washing..
Avatar n tn A couple of months later I moved to a warm climate under stress and itchy painful red bumps formed on my scalp near the back of my neck, then on one side of my mid neck. Gradually, small blotchy, bumpy itchy redness developed on both sides of my neck, shoulders, under breasts, armpits and recently my hips! I have been to the doctor 5 times, including 2 Dermatologists. I have been treated for acne, fungus, bed bugs and scabies, and I think just Dermatitis in general.
Avatar m tn I have problem with my scalp, it started a 4 months ago. I have acne all over my scalp, maybe around 5 to 6 of them at any time. Its itchy, red skin, inflammation around the area for a few days until i apply ketoconozole cream. I hav tried taking kotoconazole tablet (400mg /day) and fluconozole on a weekly basis. I try going to a hot spring (natural) which believe to have to cure. so far Its getting better but i still feel something on my scalp, which is not normal. 1.
Avatar f tn I have had the same problem!! After a couple years of itchy scalp I had a big bout of hair loss it's didn't have patches but thinned out a LOT, then it stopped, I switched back to Pantene because it gave it more support and started biotin for hair growth ... now I am having all over itchy skin!! Going crazy btw... look into over growth of yeast!! Try a good digestive cleanse and see a naturopath Dr... my boss swears by the "eat right for your blood type" diet.. check it out!!
1516332 tn?1360765586 Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.

237053 tn?1258828426 I also forgot to mention that my I've had problems with a dry flaky, scaly scalp since the onset of sx too. It isn't my whole scalp just a small area near the front right side.
Avatar m tn After two years of moderate to severe cystic acne (but a lifetime of mild acne punctuated by spurts of cystic acne), I have noticed two things-While I'm in my late 30's, "hormonal" acne treatments etc. DON'T WORK and powerful anitbiotics work FAST & best. My most recent expereinces: using a sulfa based drug for non-skin infections has almost obliterated cystic acne in 4, yes 4 days!!!!!!
Avatar f tn These sores can be caused by viral, bacterial or fungal infections. Acne and clogged hair shafts can cause scalp sores, too. Cysts on the scalp are another cause of scalp sores. In folliculitis there is inflammation of one or several hair follicles on the skin causing red, bumpy and pimple-like lumps.Tinea capitis causes round, red, scaly bumps on the scalp's surface.
Avatar f tn My husband has large itchy, flaky skin on his scalp and in his beard and mustache. It flakes in large yellow chunks that tend to be quite thick and if scratched off will often bleed. It is embarassing as he has large yucky flakes falling out all the time. He has tried prescription shampoos which worked for a couple months only. Now he uses a different kind of shampoo and conditioner every time he washes his hair which helps a bit but not much. Also have used different oils, etc.
Avatar n tn it phased out and now my itchy scalp condition is a combination of Rosacea acne bumps and some sort of seborrhea. Forget the medical jargon now. I was given a steroid shampoo after 3 yrs of suffering with the itching...not so much bumps, and finally have relief. Face bumps past adolescence: usually a form of Rosacea. There are medications oral and topical to fight the condition which is inherited. Skin problems that go on and on without relief are depressing.
Avatar n tn Hi! I have had an itchy rash on the back of my head for the past 8 years. It is reddish, mostly flat with some raised bumps (some become pimples). There are areas of red that coalesce and thicker areas of skin. I have tried washing with Selsun Blue shampoo before, and occasionally tried Clindamycin gel on my skin with little improvement. Can anyone suggest a diagnosis and a cure? I have included the picture below.
