Common Questions and Answers about Itchy scalp losing hair

itchy

Avatar f tn I am on t3 and t4 (Cytomel and Lyvoxl) and losing hair. Washing my hair (normally long and thick) yesterday, a nest the size of a golf ball came out. My scalp itches terribly and I am literally tearing my hair out. Most of the itching is at the crown, more on the right side than the left, and I'm getting a bald spot there. But all of the crown area has definitely thinned. I am on bio-idential HRT program which has been working well for two years.
Avatar f tn What causes a red, itchy pimple-like rash on scalp with subsequent hair loss? I have been treated with Ketokonazole shampoo, steroid liquid applied to scalp, chemical- and fragrance-free shampoo and conditioner (Free & Clear), stopped coloring my hair, etc. and so far nothing has taken this away. I am now losing my hair! Can anyone help me?
Avatar m tn i am really quite worried because every time I wash my hair, at least about 20 hairs fall out. (I wash my hair every 2 days) not only this, my hair always feels really dry and very itchy, it sometimes even stings a bit. even when input conditioner in my hair it is still dry and itchy. Although my hair is dry I don't usually see any dandruff. I have permanently waved hair this summer but hair started falling out before this. I also put curlers in to sleep. I eat a fairly balanced diet.
Avatar m tn im 19 years old i got this red spot in my head scalp looks more like a pimple but it's been there for couple of months, it doesn't hurt it;s not itchy . but im losing hair there and the hair that its growing its white what do i do?
Avatar n tn There are two kinds of hair loss. There is hair loss with visible scalp disease and there is hair loss without scalp disease. In your case, the hair loss may be associated with both the fungal infection and another underlying condition of seborrheic dermatitis. At this point, there is really no effective medical therapy for hair loss. If your hair loss is associated with tinea and seborrheic dermatitis then the underlying disorders need to be addressed first.
Avatar f tn I'm losing hair too. Not in clumps but I clog the drain once a week from my hair loss. And all my friends said their hair was so full and healthy during pregnancy and after lost some. I get a ball of hair during evey wash and its not normal for me also my scalp itches like crazy and I don't have bugs lol o had my husband check lol!
Avatar f tn My scalp is very red, slightly smelly and itchy, however it is only down the centre part of my hair. In addition, I am losing handfuls of hair every time I wash it. I have tried oral antibiotics, topical antifungals, corticosteriods, coconut oil, Head & Shoulders shampoo for itchy scalp, Nizoral shampoo and Neutrogena Tar shampoo, however, nothing has improved my scalp. It started about five months ago and it is getting more severe.
Avatar f tn I examined some of my hair and found there to be white dots or bumps at the end of the hair where it attaches to the scalp. Also when I give me scalp a good scratch I get white stuff under my nails. It looks like powder almost but it rubs into skin and is somewhat oily. I have tried looking it up with no luck. What is this?
Avatar f tn I also have a regularly itchy and dry scalp with white or yellow flakes everywhere. I lose a lot of hair during combing and when washing it so have reduced to washing my hair only a couple of times a week or at the most 3 times. Also I often find 'scabs' on my scalp which itch like crazy till I pick them off (gross, I know!) and there are even some small 'bloody' bits in places. My hair strands always have something whitish-clear stuck to them like glue (oil?).
Avatar f tn Does anyone have anextreme itchy scalp and losing alot of hair. It just comes out in 2 or more strands everytime anything touches it. It doesn't have to be a hair brush. I haven't been through chemo yet.
Avatar f tn My issue dates back 7 years where I had an intensely itchy scalp like a crawling sensation for a month. It has since come back for 2 weeks at a time then disappears. Until last year when it came back April 2017 it has gone for 2 months then has been there pretty much for a year. It is an unbearable need to scratch it and is like a crawling sensation all over my head.
Avatar f tn My dermatologist prescribed steroids and the rash went down, but the itchy scalp and flaking and hair loss are still going on - three weeks later. I want to know if this is hormonal and stress-related (my job is requiring me to work 12-hour days and is a stressful PR position AND I work a job on the weekends because my PR job doesnt pay what I owe in student loans) - this on top of having to deal with becoming pregnant (unplanned) and then losing that pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Try using t gel by neutrogena, that does sound like psorosis. T gel is very helpful, and it's not expensive I use it because I get acne on my scalp from using hair spray And it works wonders even though it is made for psorosis. It's main ingredient is coal tar so it doesn't smell pleasant but it's worth a try. Also if you had lice you'd see it crawling.
Avatar f tn I put my hair half up half down (mine is long) so I get it on my lower scalp (above my neck, on scalp behind my ears etc) and crown/top of my head. You really dont need it on your hair, just scalp so splitting my hair works best. Only wash it every two days. Dr can prescribe clobetasol for itchy spots if it gets worse. Water, sunshine and keeping stress low also helps a lot:) I hardly have issues anymore.
5255779 tn?1414034937 Hi, yes I am only 5 weeks and have really dry itchy scalp which is a first for me, but it is normal due to the hormonal change.
Avatar n tn My thyroid levels are generally stable. My hair line is receding rapidly, with hair thinning all over the scalp as a result of which my scalp is showing especially when I oil it or when my hair is wet. I have been taking vitamins, and trying all sorts of natural remedies, but nothing has worked. My scalp also feels itchy most of the time. Could you advise if i can take evening primrose oil ? How does it work ?
Avatar f tn t have scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin; just itchy scalp and some pimples. I also have had no hair loss; if only I could on my legs and underarms, ha ha. That's why I asked if it could be related to rosacea. Has anyone every heard of rosacea spreading to the scalp; I know it can affect your eyes.
Avatar n tn There is never a root on the hair it snaps off before the root. I am very depressed, and devastated to be losing my hair. All I need to know is how long it takes to treat a scalp fungal infection, and when will my hair stop falling out??
7827642 tn?1396958758 15 weeks and 5 days and my scalp has been super itchy here lately as well as parts of my face and my forehead. Sometimes others parts of my body will itch but not all the time. What could be going on? I don't see the doctor again until Tuesday of next week.
Avatar m tn Hi i am a 26 yr old male. i have a moderately itchy scalp that gets oily by the end of the day & have occasional acne on the scalp. also i have significant hair loss due to it.Recently, i have noticed more frequent occurrence of acne on my face & rarely on my chest & back. i wash my hair everyday with a mild shampoo to remove the oiliness. it just doesn't seem to help. i somehow feel the itchy scalp, acne & facial acne are related.
Avatar f tn ll do wonders for your hair too. Before I cut my hair, it was always very healthy for mid thigh length hair and I did that once every few weeks. Just shampoo it out like normal in the shower. Also, wash your hair everyday, or every other day. If I go too long like 3-4 days with out washing my hair, i get a bit itchy too. But when I workout regularly, I wash daily since I workout hard and sweat.
Avatar m tn I am a 34 year old male. I have been steadily losing my hair for approximately 8 years. I tried regaine back in 2006, and used it for about 8 weeks. However, I stopped using it following advice from my GP, because my scalp became severely irritated, causing soreness and weeping. As a result, several lymph nodes appeared around the back of my head and neck. During this period I went on holiday to Menorca and my scalp was exposed to the sun and I wondered whether the reaction was due to this.
