Avatar m tn Ringworm is a fungal skin infection that occurs on the face, body or scalp. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. I suggest you to get an examination done from your doctor and get a KOH examination of the scrapings to check whether it is a fungal infection. Then treatment involves using topical and oral antifungals.
Avatar f tn I then applied a homeopathic (well advertised) RX lotion, but unfortunately it seemed to spread across my face causing small circular rashes made up of little bumps which were also itchy. I then started itchy irregular shaped lesions up my forearms. I also noticed a pale purple lacy pattern on my wrists and around my knees which was much more noticeable at night.
Avatar f tn Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin disorder that mainly affects the scalp, causing itchy, yellow or white patchy scales or thick crusts that may attach to the hair shaft, as seen in the lower left side of the image. Your doctor may recommend topical creams, ultraviolet light therapy, or oral medication to help restore skin color and stop the spread of white patches. Skin grafts are also effective for getting rid of small patches of white skin.
Avatar f tn m 29 weeks and FTM the most annoying symptom to me right now is my itchy scalp I try not to scratch or pat but it only seems to make my scalp more itchy an hard to go asleep .
Avatar f tn My issue dates back 7 years where I had an intensely itchy scalp like a crawling sensation for a month. It has since come back for 2 weeks at a time then disappears. Until last year when it came back April 2017 it has gone for 2 months then has been there pretty much for a year. It is an unbearable need to scratch it and is like a crawling sensation all over my head.

Avatar n tn Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Internal causes include hormonal imbalance, poor health, poor hygiene, allergic hypersensitivity, lack of rest, emotional stress, excessive consumption of sugar, fat or starch and heredity predisposition.
Avatar f tn m going off of what I vaguely remember lol. There are 3 causes for dandruff dry scalp, oily scalp, and a fungus. The condition of your scalp is what is going to tell u which treatment to use. One remedy is ad easy as shampooing everyday and using less conditioner on your scalp. You should also try using a clarifying shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner.
Avatar f tn Help!!! I have been dealing with a bizarre scalp issue. I was first diagnosed with seborria dermatitis (sp.) in December. I have very thick hair. I was prescribed a shampoo "capex" that was a cortisone. After 6 months I developed what I believe is foliculitis....I think I was misdiagnosed all along. I see dirt, greenish hair, brown specks, etc. etc....could it be a fungus? I do have some breakage but I could have caused this by pulling on it.
Avatar m tn And I'm wondering if the fungus could survive not being on your body and just on dead tissue. I'm also confused about the Psoriasis thing -- that's an autoimmune disorder, a form of arthritis, and it would be odd to only have symptoms on your head. It should also be able to be diagnosed as, again, this isn't just a skin disorder, it's an autoimmune disease.
Avatar n tn re still experiencing an itchy, flaky scalp, talk to your doctor or dermatologist. You may need a prescription-strength shampoo or more aggressive treatment with a steroid lotion”. Taken from website http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn My fiancee has an itchy scalp, he has a little bit of dandruff but not bad. But my concern is about the pus-filled bumps on the back and sides of his scalp. He has had them for a long time, he went and seen a doctor about them and the doctor just told him that it's like athlete's feet and to put some fungus ointment on them. When my fiancee told me what the doctor had said I was like "That don't sound right.
Avatar n tn I think there is some hairloss and scalp is very dry and itchy. Everytime I run my fingers through my hand i can see flakes falling down. I plan on shaving my head and start applying some cream. Can you recommend any medicine or any remedies. I would really appreciate some help. thank you, max.
Avatar m tn hey did you ever find a solution to your problem? I too have IBS and itchy scalp with flakes....
Avatar n tn I am a licensed cosmetologist and let me tell you; dandruff is caused by a FUNGUS. Dry skin & dandruff are two completely unrelated hair diseases. I have experienced exactly what you are going through right now and you must treat it as dry skin not dandruff. Selsun blue won't do you any good because it contains a medication used for treating the dandruff fungus. Head and shoulders may help because it is targeted for dry, itchy scalp.
Avatar f tn My scalp is very red, slightly smelly and itchy, however it is only down the centre part of my hair. In addition, I am losing handfuls of hair every time I wash it. I have tried oral antibiotics, topical antifungals, corticosteriods, coconut oil, Head & Shoulders shampoo for itchy scalp, Nizoral shampoo and Neutrogena Tar shampoo, however, nothing has improved my scalp. It started about five months ago and it is getting more severe.
Avatar n tn Both ringworm and yeast infection are fungus. in fact one of the very best treatments for ringworm is monostat mixed with hibiclense I am not a medical pro, but I did rescue 3 infested kittens 4 years ago and my hairless dogs got ringworm. from that i learned the ringworm spores can live many months. I bought a woods lamp, only to discover all ringworms do not florese. dry skin does florese. grr a waste of good money.
Avatar f tn I have had very dry itchy scalp my whole life. It never really seemed to bother me- when I got pregnant the dryness and itchyness seemed to be dormant. However after I gave birth the dryness came back in full force. It is on the back of my scalp on the left side near my hairline - starting from the bottoms of my hair line to above my ear- all in my scalp. I tried to look at the area if dryness and it's red with a white crust. Very itchy and burns at times.
Avatar n tn My scalp has been tested for fungus and was negative. My entire scalp, wherever there is hair, feels like granulated sugar, and, at times, have open lesions that bleed and ooze clear liquid. The follicles on my arms are raised and, both my arms and when I rub my arms and shake my hair, tiny, what look like tiny pieces of clear to white thread float off. It is extremely embarrassing because I look like I am covered in dust. The top of my legs burn and and the follicles are also enlarged.
Avatar n tn Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Dandruff is associated with a tiny fungus called Pityrosporum ovale, or P. ovale for short. This fungus lives on our bodies and scalp all the time, usually without causing a problem. Unfortunately, for some people, it can get out of control -- leading to dandruff.
Avatar f tn Selsum Blue for dry, itchy scalp; T-Gel with Menthol. The T-Gel helped reduce the itching and flaking to not-as-severe for about a day before it all returned worse than ever. I have also used Scalpcin to spot treat itchiness with minimal effectiveness. I am at a loss to a solution now. I would like to return to my normal hair texture and non-itching scalp from a year before this nightmare hair cut. I will be so grateful for whatever help provided. Thank you very, very much!
Avatar f tn It is characterised by small, very itchy pustules within the scalp, often most troublesome on the frontal hairline. The scalp should be washed with a mild normal shampoo as often as desired. Antidandruff shampoos containing antifungal agents such as ketoconazole or ciclopirox are sometimes helpful. Apart from that you need topical and oral antibiotics, antihistamines, oral steroids and topical tretinoin. My sincere advice is to get it examined from a dermatologist.
Avatar f tn I've had skin itch problems for 5 years now & I've all but given up on finding solutions as it seems nobody can help me. I was in Malaysia for some years, which has a tropical climate & I used to get athlete's foot as a student all the time. I itch allover my body, but it varies. Worst, most annoying & most consistent is my feet that itch constantly, it just never stops, it even wakes me up at night!
Avatar n tn It is caused by a fungus and usually affects children. Scalp ringworm may be passed among humans by direct contact with infected people or with contaminated objects (such as combs, pillows, and sofas). Medicated shampoo such as ketoconazole is often used for treatment in mild cases and to reduce the risk of spreading the scalp ringworm. However, oral antifungal medicines are prescribed if the fungus invades deep into the hair follicle.
Avatar n tn A couple of months later I moved to a warm climate under stress and itchy painful red bumps formed on my scalp near the back of my neck, then on one side of my mid neck. Gradually, small blotchy, bumpy itchy redness developed on both sides of my neck, shoulders, under breasts, armpits and recently my hips! I have been to the doctor 5 times, including 2 Dermatologists. I have been treated for acne, fungus, bed bugs and scabies, and I think just Dermatitis in general.
Avatar n tn The symptoms of Tinea Capitis (fungal infection) include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps.
