Common Questions and Answers about Difference between zantac and tagamet

zantac

Avatar f tn I have had different sysmptons for months mostly throat burning and mid sternum pain alternating with soreness. I was put on prilosec with no difference then zantac 300 mg and now nexium. The zantac showed improvement. Then went to a gastro and he changed me to 40 mg Nexium with marked improvement. I had an ultrasound, hyda scan both normal. I then had an endoscopy that showed stomach was irritated and and a raw spot in my esophagus. It appeared to be healing.
1088529 tn?1256844030 I've just started taking zantac, and I don't know if I'll have any side effects, or if my regular symptoms (stomach pain, upset stomach) will become apparent or come back. My question is this; if I get nauseous, stomach pain, upset stomach etc. as a side effect or other, can I take tums to calm my stomach down? Or will it just make things worse? I can't talk to my doctor because (a) don't have an appointment and (b) am too young to drive there or get an appointment myself.
1448936 tn?1363206346 I took Tagamet which is over the counter and had excellent results. If this doesn't help, I would seek a second opinion from another gastro doc. There's obviously something making your stomach burn, they can't just throw up their hands and let you suffer! (although many do). Make sure you're not taking pain medication as well, some can really irritate the stomach and even eat a hole in it, I experienced this with Advil after 10 days.
Avatar n tn can you take imodium and prilosec OTC or zantac to get rid of opiate withdrawals?
Avatar f tn If you have no money to go to doc right now and need immediate relief, I would recommend you try pepto bismol which coats the lining of your stomach or Tagamet or Zantac. Those are a few over the counter meds you could try. Also your pharmacist can assist you in your selection if you tell them your symptoms. If your symptoms continue, I would strongly recommend you get to the doc as it you could be making a bad situation much worse! Don't risk your health! :o) Good luck!
Avatar f tn I get a sore spot on the right side of my neck/throat that comes and goes. Sometimes if I press on that spot on my neck/throat it's tender. I have also noticed sometimes when I bend over it feels worse. Has anyone else ever experienced this? My doctor wants me to start taking Zantac everyday which I am worried about due to possible long term effects of this medicine.
3150328 tn?1349627121 I first used carafate about 30yrs ago sort of before all of the newer drugs came on the scene, then it was Tagamet Zantac Pepcid and all down the line one good thing about carafate is it is not systemic with mostly minor side effects.
338416 tn?1420045702 Since Copaxone is a copolymer, histamine H1-receptor antagonist may not work well. The histamine H2-receptor antagonists, like cimetidine (Tagamet) or ranitidine (Zantac) and famotidine (Pepcid) might actually work better. I know, it sounds goofy, but the histamine response causes the acid pumps in the stomach to turn on. The histamine H2-receptor antagonists are becoming pretty common in the treatment of allergic reactions not controlled by typical antihistamines.
Avatar m tn Acid reducers like Zantac, Pepcid and Tagamet as well as PPI proton pump inhibitors like Prevacid Protonix and Aciphex commonly help acid reflux. Valium and other benzodiazepines help anxiety. With respect to diarrhea, dexadrine commonly causes that side effect, and many others do as well.
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I've had occassional PVC's for 20 plus years. I also have Mitral Valve Prolaps. About 2 months ago I started taking Prilosec for reflux. I then began to have a huge increase in the number of PVC's. Sometimes lasting all day. I've been on an event monitor for the past 2 weeks. I didn't even think that to relate this increase in PVC's to the Prilosec until about a week ago.
Avatar f tn I rescued a cat, he was about 3 months old, in may, he was born around the restaurant that I work at, where people drop off unwanted cats, because our owner feeds them, I believe he is inbreed and I fell in love with him. He had a hurt eye and I took him to my vet and got him medicine and decided to add him to my family of 2 cats and 2 dogs. I took him for his shots and he had tape worms and he got medicine for that.
Avatar m tn It could be described as a slow constant leakage that increases as I get more nervous. I would eventually be diagnosed with an ulcer. I was prescribed Tagamet and after about 6 weeks the problem went away. Once they took me off Tagamet the trouble returned. That was back in 83 and it has altered my entire existence. Help! does anyone have any suggestions to resolve this issue.
539904 tn?1217442643 And yes, when I was finally diagnosed, I know mine was due to extreme stress at the time. I think I took Zantac, Pepcid, Tagamet....tried a few but really, it had to go away on its own for me. So, I tried deep breathing exercises and began a small walking routine all for relaxation and for me, it went away in a few months....yes, months....long time. Every once in a while still I can feel it coming on so I abate it right away with deep breaths and diverging my mind away from it.
Avatar m tn Well, I know you were on the PPI but have you tried something more simple like Tagamet or Pepcid? I can't take PPI as it GIVES me gastric pains but the others control my heartburn when I've had it chronically. Try it and see. But it does sound like you will need to see your doctor. Upper stomach pain can also be gall bladder related. For heartburn, acid reflux and gall bladder issues, sometimes certain things can reduce them. What we eat and when.

975357 tn?1252704723 ) but I stupidly continued to take my pepcid (famotidine) and forgot that this is also in the class of antihistamines known as h2 blockers (includes tagamet, pepcid, zantac etc.) Since the receptionist didn't specify and I didn't use by brain lol, is this going to affect my test results in any way, and is it still worth going? my appointment is at 9am its 6am now and I dont want to drive 40 miles if its going to be pointless. someone please help...pref. SOON!
2020005 tn?1628125976 You can also be getting Epigastric pain (located usually directly below the sternum and to the sides) which is likely acid related, as the previous poster said. Zantac is also fine to use, and if it controls it that's likely the issue. Try to keep a log of everything you eat and see what triggers it.
Avatar f tn The new gastro took me through Pepcid (made me severly hypoglycemic); Prilosec (made me dizzy and caused migraines); and finally Zantac. Every scope showed the same thing -- hiatal hernia and small ulcer in Dueduonum. It was a mystery. But, once I quit eating milk protein, I threw the meds away.
Avatar f tn Yes, like candace said zantac 75. I was told not to take zantac 150.
Avatar n tn Gastroesophageal reflux is treated by elevating the head of the bed six to eight inches, avoiding foods and beverages for two to three hours before bedtime, and eliminating alcohol and caffeine from the daily diet. Antacids such as Mylanta, Gaviscon and drugs that block stomach acid production such as Zantac, Tagamet, or pepcid may be prescribed. Other possibilities may be allergic rhinitis, sinus problems (for example sinus infection) and post nasal drip.
Avatar f tn s office. There are many other reflux brands, some strong. Pepcid, zantac, tagamet are all old basic meds. I guess these are good to start with. Ask your doctor. They are also OTC, over the counter. As far as diet goes, it can be hit and miss until you find the really acid triggering food, it varies from person to person. Typical are spicey foods, hot peppers, chilli, etc. then dairy, cheese, milk, etc. then alcohol, beer, hard stuff, etc.
Avatar m tn I thought for sure they would not ever go away but they finally did and in my mind the Tagamet made the biggest difference but I give some credit to the Aloe Vera & Bee Propolis, my diet and exercise as well. I will be taking Celebrex for the next 6 months to a year, just to make sure I have it cleared but it seems I have finally cured myself. ============== Herbal Aloe Vera & Bee Propolis http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
