Avatar n tn I have IGT with FBS 120 mg and PPBS 166 mg. But recently i developed Diabetic amyotrophy. I would like to know the cause of the above condition when my HbA1c is always <7. This discussion is related to Diabetic Amyotrophy.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I had expected him to up my dose of Lyrica from 400mg a day to 600mg a day, as I still have a lot of neuropathic pain. But instead he stopped my amitriptyline which I take 50mg at night and changed to 60mg Duloxetine at night. I gather it is an anti depression tablet also used for neuropathic pain in diabetic's I am not Diabetic. So I wonder what peoples opinions were?
Avatar m tn My 75 year old father, a chronic Type I diabetic for over 50 years, has his one leg amputated due to foot gangerene. He now has severe pain in the other leg. Short of another amputation, is there any way to reduce his pain in the leg?
1784020 tn?1314864316 Are you a diabetic? Acral bulluous diabeticorum is my clinical impression .As a differential diagnosis I would consider porphyria. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn Some antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) also are showing success at relieving neuropathic pain. Neurontin and Lyrica are commonly prescribed AEDs. They work by reducing the frequency of pain signals that nerve cells send to the brain." Bottom line, good control of your diabetes is the key to treating Neuropathy - maintain a healthy and normal A1c level. Taking drugs to mask the pain while one ignores good diabetic glucose control is like driving your car at a high rate of speed on flat tire.
Avatar n tn For the past 6 months or so I have been experiencing neuropathic tingling and burning sensations in my thighs. It is a constant sensation, felt most severely when sitting down. It is in both legs, previously felt mostly on the insides of my thighs, but more recently on the outside and backs of my legs as well. I have no visual symptoms when experiencing this, no rash or marks etc. When it occurs it usually lasts constantly for a week or sometimes 2, then it disappears.
172023 tn?1334672284 m really glad that you are trying the TENS Unit. Before My Hubby passed away 13 years ago, he had the TENS to help with the Diabetic Neuropathy in his legs. It made a TREMENDOUS difference for him and allowed him to work about 5 years longer than he would have been able too without the Unit. I hope it gives you the same relief that he received from it!!! Wishing ONLY the BEST for you,........
280418 tn?1306325910 Should I go to Johns Hopkins and get a skin biopsy to check for small fiber neuropathy? Mine is idiopathic -not diabetic, not toxicity from vitamins or other toxins. Every test has come up normal - MRIs, Lumbar punctures, bloodwork etc.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have Diabetic Neuropathy in my feet. I take Gabapentin that helps. I was given an advertisement for an over the counter medication called Neuragen. Has anyone heard of this or tried it? Thanks!

1218873 tn?1300091216 Lyrica is prescribed for seizures, Fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy, or other neuropathy associated diseases. Amitriptyline is in the class of antidepressants which can be used for neuropathic pain as well. I'm not sure if it would dull your brisk reflexes or not -- I would place a call to your doctor and ask him/her if it can cause your reflexes to be dull.
Business woman2 If your diabetes has been uncontrolled or ill-managed your symptoms could be signs of diabetic neuropathy [dn]. If left untreated dn can lead to amputation.
Avatar n tn The tingling looks like a neuropathic paresthesia. You will have to get it checked by a Neurologist. Are you a diabetic ?
Avatar f tn i am a diabetic and i take plavix i have numbness in my right leg i have no toes i have been taking penicillin for my toothe ache and i'm wondering does that have any thing to do with the numbness
1147994 tn?1385568424 Hi Nanaonwheels, Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. Your fear is heard and understood. I thought the same when a neurologist first prescribed Amitriptyline for me some years ago. Unfortunately for me it was not effective. They were "guessing" and my pain was not neuropathic. But I did think, "Oh goodness. They think it's all in my head." Elavil, generic name Amitriptyline, is a tricyclic antidepressant. It is often prescribed "off label" for chronic pain.
Avatar n tn I have had pernicious anemia for 4 years. I have neurological damage to my legs and feet. they sting, they burn. My neurologist gave me Lyrica but it only takes the edge off. The dr. said that the nerve damage is similar to diabetic neuropathy. I don't have any tremors, not have I heard of this. Now I take B-12 dots under my tongue every day. Twin Labs makes them and they can be bought in the health food store. My levels in my blood tests is high. Hope I helped.
Avatar m tn Like quite a few members, I have suffered acutely from the pain of peripheral neuropahy in the feet - doesn't matter if it's diabetic, or like mine, the hereditary kind, the pain is what counts. My question is: is there any research on the horizon, or even imminent, which offers us any hope? I think it is fair to say we feel acutely neglected by medical sciences. My email is John.***@****. Thanks for your attention. Blazingfeet (eetired journalist, Brentwood UK).
Avatar n tn I have a large ulceration above my right eye tooth and lump above my jawline, and at times there is clear drainage leaking from right nostril. On face right side of nostril feels different not the same as the left.
