Avatar m tn Ihave high b.p. 156/80 after taking a 240mg verapamil tab.daily. I have type-2 diabetes also. my dr. has increased the verapamil dose twice a day. He says my bp should be in a range of 110 to120/80 because I am diabetic. what is your opinion about this approach to bp. I am 82 yrs old healthy man with low thyroid.
Avatar f tn I just realized that I haven't seen my diabetes specialist in about three years. On my last visit she "discharged" me to the care of my internist. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 years ago, at age 62. My glucose levels are stable at around 110, hB!ac 5.9. I've recently lost 25 kg, do some mild exercise and feel good. I'm taking metformin twice a day (750 mg).
Avatar m tn One can typically prevent type 2 diabetes by lifestyle choices of proper weight, exercise and eating habits. This is considered non insulin diabetes. With type 2 diabetes, blood sugar is too high. The body doesn't make insulin well anymore or use it well. It's usually slow developing and can be reversed. I hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you would like any more information!
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
Avatar n tn Although there's no cure for type 2 diabetes, studies show it's possible for some people to reverse it. Through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. This doesn't mean you're completely cured. Type 2 diabetes is an ongoing disease.
283921 tn?1218525506 When I had a heart attack (MI) in 1992 I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and was advised of the need to take insulin for the rest of my life.As the years went by and my insulin intake increased along with my weight but my sugar level remained fairly consistent HbA1c approx 7.2. In 2005 I decided on a life style change predominantly targeted at reducing my weight and found that I could reduce my insulin intake.
Avatar n tn CLBear, You might enjoy a diabetes discussion board that's got topics for Type 2s and Type 1s and for the stuff we share. I highly recommend this site: http://chat.joslin.harvard.edu:8080/~diabetes You don't need to register to read the information there, but you may need to register to post (it's free, tho'). Folks who post can choose to be anonymous.
Avatar f tn The best way to know what works for YOU is to try a certain food and test your blood glucose two hours after eating and make sure you stay within target. If a certain food spikes you up say over 140 you might try a lesser amount of that food or just eliminate it from your diet. It is not really possible to make a list of foods to eat and not eat because we are all different. But a diet of protein and lots of fresh vegies, small amounts of fruit and small amounts of carbs should do best.
Avatar m tn You may wish to ask your Dr if he will test you for type 1 diabetes, which you may possibly have given your age and how high your sugars were. If it is type 1 diabetes, you will need to continue taking insulin rather than oral meds. Please learn as much as you can about diabetes. It is managed through diet, exercise and medications (insulin and/or oral). You will need to monitor your blood sugar frequently to see how your medications are working too.
Avatar n tn my blood sugar level is 200-280... 2 hrs after dinner and fasting is 110-130 in morning at 6 AM.
Avatar m tn My Mom has Type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure from last 10 years. She is 63 yr old. She is currently taking diabetes and blood pressure lowering medications including: - Teneligliptin(40 mg/day) for diabetes, - Telmisartan(160 mg/day) & Chlortalidone(25mg/day) for Hypertension. 390388 tn?1279636213 When I had reading like that I had to inject, not take diabetes oral meds. I have type 2 diabetes and since losing a lot of weight my fasting blood sugar readings are about 100. I would double my efforts to control type 2 diabetes with the medications you must have been prescribed, usually they are very inexpensive. If it stays out of control (fasting level of 200 is way out of control) you definitely will have a whole lot of medical issues.

Avatar n tn I would like to know what folks think on this forum with regards to my treatment options, Should I go on medication for Diabetes or just treat the low T and control the diabetes with diet alone? I am only 38 and have very active life/marriage. What does the future look for me ? How long can I go on like this and will be recover the low T or will be on meds permanently? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a mom of a type one and the daughter of a type 2. In a type one diabetic commonly called Juvenile diabetes( because it usually is diagnoses in children , but I know people that were in they 30's and 40's and were diagnosed) is when the body stop s producing insulin. Type 2 diabetics your body still produces insulin, but cannot use it properly use the insulin without help of medication.
