Avatar f tn d suggest getting a carb-counter booklet at a bookstore -- in the section of diet books -- many calorie counting books contain carb amounts too. My number one recommendation is: don't allow diabetes to change your son's life. We look at it as an inconveniece (to say the least,) but it hasn't changed anything my son would normally do. He's a lifeguard and does Tour de France style bike racing.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the quick response. I don't take any antibiotics, and my diet hasn't really changed in the past few months. The only true thing is that now that since I'm working in restaurants again, I'm not eating dinner until 10 or 11 at night. Could that cause any change? Thanks again.
Avatar m tn No processed foods, no lunch meat, no smoked meat, no hotdogs, no canned foods (full of salt). No eating out in restaurants especially fast food restaurants (full of salt and fat). Eat bread and potato without butter or margarine. If you eat organic vegetables, they taste a lot better and feel a lot better on the stomach and digestion. Blood pressure needs to stay down, along with cholesterol. As far as I have read, there is no proven exercise that can help an enlarged heart.
Avatar n tn Eating out is hard you have to choose restaurants that have veggies and rice instead of fried foods. All restaurants put oil in their foods so try to keep it to a minimum. If he did all these things and was willing to do it you would definitely see a change in his bp and weight and he could get off the meds eventually. There are some seminars on this. If you go to drmcdougall.com he has some you can go to but also on line information.
Business woman2 If craving for sweets is something which started recently, then please consult a gynecologist to rule out hormonal imbalance due to polycystic ovary or pre menopause. Diabetes, insulin related problems and adrenal fatigue (problems related to adrenal gland) should also be ruled out. It can also be part of an eating disorder. Please get this investigated. Meanwhile you can opt for ‘diet sweet’ which are sugar free options with artificial sweeteners.
Avatar f tn s Board of Health voted Thursday to ban the sale of sugary drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces in restaurants and other venues, in a move meant to combat obesity and encourage residents to live healthier lifestyles. The board voted eight in favor, with one abstention. "It's time to face the facts: obesity is one of America's most deadly problems, and sugary beverages are a leading cause of it," said New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a statement earlier this month.
Avatar f tn If New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his way, you won't be gulping down any 44-ounce Cokes at any of the Big Apple's eateries after March 2013. Citing what he says is the contribution sugary beverages make to obesity in the U.S., Bloomberg says the buck, and the big Dr. Pepper, stops with him. “Obesity is a nationwide problem, and all over the United States, public health officials are wringing their hands saying, ‘Oh, this is terrible.

1142708 tn?1261137021 And sodium! For people with heart disease, that's a big item. I don't mean just the salt shaker. There's sodium in all kinds of food, especially the canned/boxed variety. I don't buy canned soups any more, never buy frozen dinners or those things in a box. Some of those will give you a full portion of sodium in one serving. Ick! Don't get me started on fast food or restaurants.

Avatar f tn I have had a very strange allergic reaction for the past year and it seems to be getting progressively worse. Almost every time I eat in a restaurant or the kitchen of some people, my nose itches like crazy and gets very stuffy. Sometimes, but not always, my eyes get watery as well. It never happens in my kitchen, and I noticed when I was in San Fransisco a few months ago it didn't seem to happen in restaurants there, or at least wasn't as intense.

Avatar f tn My eye doctor today told me that my vision problems are due to diabetes. I told him that I have never been diagnosed with diabetes by a medical doctor. I had fasting labs done a few months ago because of hypothyroid. My blood glucose at that time was 102mg/dl. Is that high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes? I already have another appointment for fasting labs next month. I thought I would get a jump start on changing my eating habits but I can't figure out what I can eat.
Avatar f tn This is my second week into the diet and have already lost 5 pounds. In my opinion, I don't think we're going to be gaining a whole lot of weight.
Avatar f tn The doctor said I had glucose in my urine. She is going to retest me again in 2 weeks. I went in 2 weeks ago for the sugar test and passed with a 131 cutoff is 135. So my question is has this happened to anyone else? Does this mean I am going to develop gestational diabetes?? I am not over weight but I do have a bad ice cream habit...been known to eat a pint of ben and jerrys a nite!!! Any input would be appericated..thanxs!!
