Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I had it even before pregnancy.Till my 3rd trimester I was on medicine-metformin and diet. From third trimester it is just going up.So along with metformin I am on two types of insulin every day.But as of now my baby is doing fine.I am 34 W 6 days.
Tbd Eventually your pancreas may stop working and your liver may not produce enough insulin anymore. This is when Type 2 can turn to Type 1; when your body doesn't produce insulin. (Of course there are those type 1s that were born this way as well.) Type 1 can be reversed within months with diet. I have reversed pre diabetes (A1C 5.7 down to 4.9) and my brother has reversed insulin dependent Type 2 (A1C now 5.2) and no longer taking ANY medications for diabetes or high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I had type 2 diabetes before I got pregnant. I'm 8 weeks and I inject insulin twice a day. They said if I don't control my levels my baby will be too overweight . any suggestions besides eating right and exercising? Is anyone else experiencing this?
Avatar m tn it is good you went to the dr when you did. You may wish to ask your Dr if he will test you for type 1 diabetes, which you may possibly have given your age and how high your sugars were. If it is type 1 diabetes, you will need to continue taking insulin rather than oral meds. Please learn as much as you can about diabetes. It is managed through diet, exercise and medications (insulin and/or oral).
Avatar n tn s gonna be like that untill someone extraordinary finds a way to completely fix type 2. Type 1 will never be fixed, but one day we may understand why it happens and will be preventable. For now it's either drastically lowering the consumption of carbs, or the drugs. There's no inbetween.
283921 tn?1218525506 When I had a heart attack (MI) in 1992 I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and was advised of the need to take insulin for the rest of my life.As the years went by and my insulin intake increased along with my weight but my sugar level remained fairly consistent HbA1c approx 7.2. In 2005 I decided on a life style change predominantly targeted at reducing my weight and found that I could reduce my insulin intake.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is different from type 1 diabetes, which isn't reversible. Type 2 can generally be reversed by changing your diet and getting plenty of exercise. The reason is that type 2 is caused by the body not being able to absorb or use the insulin it creates.
996946 tn?1503249112 Can Diabetes 2 actually turn into Diabetes 1 if you have it long enough and your pancreas stops working...or is there no connection between Diabetes I & 2?
Avatar n tn First, you must realize that there is a huge difference in the treatment of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. For the type 2 diabetic, I also have read (from the Atkins people) that their diet is a good way to lower glucose levels. This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas.

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes ..We tried the oral meds for a bit and eventually had to move on to Insulin shots twice a day...Well I started an insulin pump when my son was born in 2003. I have been on it ever since. I know I am insulin dependent because I cannot take my pump off except for the rare few minutes or so without my sugar sky rocketing. Now would u still call this Type 2 Diabetes or Type 1?
Avatar n tn Hello, Mister Magic! I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Humalog and Novolog are different types of fast acting insulin, meaning that they are quickly absorbed into your system to immediately drop your blood sugar. Some people find that one works more effectively than the other, so which is used is really up to the patient. Humulin, more commonly called Humulin NPH, and even more commonly called just NPH, is a long acting insulin.

Avatar f tn I recently was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, will I ever be able to eat whatever I want again? If so, how long do you think that will be, I miss my chocolate!!
Avatar m tn One can typically prevent type 2 diabetes by lifestyle choices of proper weight, exercise and eating habits. This is considered non insulin diabetes. With type 2 diabetes, blood sugar is too high. The body doesn't make insulin well anymore or use it well. It's usually slow developing and can be reversed. I hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you would like any more information!
Avatar n tn Although there's no cure for type 2 diabetes, studies show it's possible for some people to reverse it. Through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. This doesn't mean you're completely cured. Type 2 diabetes is an ongoing disease.
Avatar m tn Fasting hyperglycemia can happen with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused by lack of insulin and the treatment is injected insulin, exercise and careful management of diet. Type 2 is initially caused by insulin resistance and there will initially be high levels of insulin that cannot be properly used by the body. Treatment can be diet, exercise, weight loss, and medications.
Avatar n tn Diabetes type-1 is due to destruction of insulin cell means the body get deficient of insulin, in this case the amount of the blood sugar rises. It can be prevented. Diabetes type-2 occurs when the body is not able to use insulin in appropriate manner. It can be prevented with healthy lifestyle.
687079 tn?1230948612 what could cause reaccurent severe hypoglycemia in a type 2 diabetic who does not take any medicine or insulin and is diet controlled?
Avatar m tn Once doctors see that your diet, weight, and glucose levels are in the green and steady, there is a HUGE chance that you can get off insulin. Again. AMAZING progress! I know quite a few diabetics, type 1 and 2, and I know how hard it can be to keep in control.
158939 tn?1274915197 Hi Utahmomma, I'm a momma, too, not a doc, so let the docs call it-- you definitely need to see a good endocrinologist. That said, I have a type-1 daughter and a type-2 husband, and type-2 is rampant in his family, so I'm pretty familiar with both. You're right that it makes no sense for him to have Type 2. I have heard of a couple of non-overweight people getting type 2 when there's a strong genetic history, but they don't usually get it until well into middle age.
