Avatar f tn Pregnancy occurring during the use of the shot is usually an undetected pregnancy before the shot is given. One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.

Avatar f tn i decided to not go on any other birth control for awhile. What are the side effects of coming off the Depo Provera and is it ok to not be on any birthcontrol at all for awhile??
Avatar f tn I've been on Depo Provera for almost a year but i've decided to not get my next shot in two weeks i'm not wanting to get pregnant anytime soon but I'm wondering how long will it take for the Hormones to leave my body and what kind of side effects should I expect?
Avatar f tn Seeing how you said the 3 month injection you mean like Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 3 years and it seems to sound as though you're dealing with the issues of the side effects of the birth control. It happens and really sometimes you get them sooner or in your case later.
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend started using the depo-provera shot about a month ago. We abstained from sex for a week after the injection just to be safe. Two weeks after the injection we had to make a visit to her family practice doctor because we had a hunch that she had a bladder infection. We were right. The doctor prescribed her to take 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin twice daily and of course Phenazopyridine for the pain.
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
Avatar f tn Take a pregnancy test and then freak out. Your symptoms could be anything from side effects to digestive issues, to hormonal issues. Not really 'pregnancy' specific.
Avatar n tn The Depo-Provera shot has all of your symptoms as fairly common side effects. As a health professional and former Depo patient, I can tell you these are common complaints with this form of birth control. I personally could not take the shot for more than 6 months, as I found I couldn't deal with the side effects. Some patients find the symptoms decrease over time, but you may want to speak to your doctor about an alternate form of birth control.
Avatar m tn Is this all normal my doctor just gave me pills for an upset stomach n pain and said the urinne test came back that i wasnt pregnant because they also did not give me a pregnancy test before they put me on depo..
Avatar f tn Can the depo-provera shot be given in between periods and still be affective? What would the effects of this be?
Avatar n tn What are the side effects of depo provera?
Avatar f tn It is important to take a calcium supplement while using depo provera. Weight gain is probably the worst side effect. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Most likely, these are side effects from the Depo, but you might want to contact your health care provider and have a check up just to be sure. Also, even when using Depo or the pill...I highly recommend condoms. Condoms not only offer additional protection against pregnancy, they also help prevent sexually transmitted infections. You or your partner can have an infection and not know it...and unknowingly pass it on.
Avatar n tn Breakthrough bleeding and really long periods are common side effects on depo provera. It's actually one of the reasons most women stop using it. Unfortunately, because it's an injectible birth control method, there isn't much you or your doctor can do if you are having unpleasant side effects. You just have to wait for the 3 months to be over and your body to either adjust to it, or to see if it just won't work for you.
Avatar n tn The Depo is one of the most effective birth controls on the market, but has some side effects that put women off. (I'd never personally use it. I went with a non-hormonal IUD) Side effects you might get are odd spotting, heavy/lighter than normal periods and over time no period, weight gain (this is a real common one) headaches, breast tenderness and a few other I can't think of. You can google for a proper list of side effects and the number of women who experience them.
3113005 tn?1341773834 I am little confused by your question. The depo provera shot is given once every three months not for three months at some unspecified interval. If you mean that you received the depo shot 4 months ago, and hence, the last month, you did not get a repeat depo shot, then the answer to your question is, yes, you can get pregnant. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years before stopping to try to conceive. It took me 3 years to conceive my son who is 6 years old.

Avatar f tn I took a home pregnancy test which was negative before starting Provera for 10 days to start my period. It's been 10 days since the last pill & still no period so I took a pregnancy test & I'm pregnant. I must have been pregnant when I started. Does anyone know of a study which shows birth defects are greater when the fetus is exposed to Provera?
Avatar f tn I have had the depo provera shot once and never went back for the second one October 1st. I wanted to know if I should have had my period by now?
Avatar m tn I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? I am 33 yrs old not children and don't plan on having any. I wanted to use the Depo as a form of birth control so that my boyfriend and I don't have to worry about the possibility of getting pregnant. Is the depo shot as bad as people are saying it is? NEED HELP!!!
Avatar f tn Depending on the birth control sometimes they have weird side effects. I was on the Mirena before we started ttc. I had pregnancy symptoms at random and my doctor said it was the side effects. Everyone's body reacts differently to birth control and it can come randomly! The other thing would be to have a blood test done just to be sure!
Avatar n tn Hi! If you were my patient, I would advise you that the effects of depo provera can last for up to 18 months, so "abnormal" periods for up to that long can be normal. I would suggest that you start doing ovulation predictors once you have a normal period and if you are not ovulating regularly, you could start a medication like Clomid to overcome the after effects of the depo.
Avatar f tn I think you should talk with you doctor to see whats going on and also that you should of check out the side effects before getting on the Depo Provera shot because Deop can cause Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use but since your period hasn't stop you should see your doctor.
